Icemud Goes LED - Featuring Top LED Grow - Cherry Pie GSC/OGiesel/SFV OG/UVH OG

Re: Icemud Goes LED: Featuring Top LED Grow: Cherry Pie - GSC - OGiesel - SFV OG - UV

Your "clean up" is inspiring my friend, my babies are 36 days into veg and they are so bushy I know I'm going to have to strip them eventually. Thanks for the tips

Ice, pics and video are beautiful! Thank you for info. :).

If you were to take a clone, it would be during first defoilation, or before?

:thumb:

I only take clones during veg, usually about a week before flowering and the 12/12 flip.

Thank you Dr. Ziggy! Have a great day!

Thanks Hiddenkoncept. I definitely needed to clean up and still need to hit the bottoms of them tomorrow, as well as cut off any new little "smalls" that may have formed since last time I defoliated. Thanks for the compliment :)

Hi Icemud :)

I'm a total noob just about to order my Mars II's, and i was wondering if a 70 day flowering period is normal, or it was because of the strain, or the lights? It seems that your grow is taking quite a long time for the size of the plants (but again feel free to correct me if i'm wrong) so i was just a bit concerned as my setup and watts per square foot will be very close to yours (i'm following your advice same as PapaSmoke and getting 5 x 400w in a 5x5 area)

Do you think the amount of light is optimum for the space in this case? Or perhaps you could have done with more?

Thanks loads Icemud and the buds look awesome! :)

Nice wish i had more lights. After this harvest im upgrading. We are about the same days of flower . I want a light with all white on a switch and the rest on another. I hate changing out my leds for really good budshots.

Hey Doozy...

For me, since I grow in organic soil, flowering times take longer than say a hydro grower. However, flowering time of 70 days for me, is normal. Actually some of my OG's I run longer, like 80 to 100 days but really its when the plant tells me its ready. Size of the plant doesn't really have much to do with flowering time, because flowering time is geneticly programmed into the plant, each strain has different times of when it matures, but I don't believe plant size has anything to do with it.

Nothing to be concerned about, growing cannabis takes time and typically flowering takes about 2 1/2 months, regardless of what strain, unless you a growing hydro, which is slightly quicker.

Ice, do you think that breeders are low estemating those flowering times anyway? I am curious about your 70 days on an OG as it sounds like you are flowering longer like I am vs the breeder suggestions. What are your thoughts on this?

Re: Icemud Goes LED: Featuring Top LED Grow: Cherry Pie - GSC - OGiesel - SFV OG - UV

The breeder are the one who grow out th plants and seletive cross them for the traits they like. So i would go with the suggested veg and flower times listed on the seed bank info. All depends on space time and quality and weight of yield you want. The longer the flowering period the more the chemicals change in the structure of the thc /cbd.

I get that part of it, but the breeders are also competing and it seems there is a desire to state LOW flower times vs what we all seem to do here. Also, temps, RH, training etc all can slow down a plant and I have heard of folks using tricks to speed things up too. I think there may be a delta between the breeders flower times and what most growers would do.

Great question but since I only have grown from clones, and usually don't ask the recommended time, for me to answer honestly wouldn't be possible. I know most of my OG's didn't seem ready until after about day 75 or more for me, some I ran all the way up to 100 days, (based on pistil color/formation, swollen calyx's, and color of trichomes). I usually prefer slightly amber trichomes (usually 15-25%).

Now there are a couple things though to consider, some growers count flowering days from the day they see flowers forming (approx 2 weeks or so after the flip to 12/12). I personally count from the day that I flip the lights so depending on what method of counting growerers and breeders use, could mean the difference of 2 weeks time.

Also since I grow in soil, soil plants take longer than hydro for the most part. So some breeders might use hydro times and some may quote soil times, but for the most part I never really see more than just the times in most breeders information. I'm not a hydro grower but from what I read, usually hydro finishes a week to a few weeks faster than organic soil, so if this is in fact true, there is another variable that can affect the recommended times from the acutual.

Me personally, I really don't care about how long a certain plant takes to flower, other than just tracking statistics on my grows for comparison later. I just let the plant tell me when its ready and when to harvest, but for most of my soil grows, usually 65-100 days from the flip is where I have harvested different strains.

Re: Icemud Goes LED: Featuring Top LED Grow: Cherry Pie - GSC - OGiesel - SFV OG - UV

yep there is a lot of time difference between soil and hydro
I started my ww about the same time as OMM his is still under 24/0 he likes to veg 24/0
mine has been on 12/12 for about 3 weeks already I think
you can see the differences in size with about the same amount of time grown
I cant veg more than 3 weeks in my veg tent but from seed its enough for me cause a lot of the plants can max out my bloom tent with just 3 weeks veg because of the stretch

Re: Icemud Goes LED: Featuring Top LED Grow: Cherry Pie - GSC - OGiesel - SFV OG - UV

I have a question about drying and curing. I cut and hang for about 5-6 days then final trim and into jars. Is there a different method?

Re: Icemud Goes LED: Featuring Top LED Grow: Cherry Pie - GSC - OGiesel - SFV OG - UV

drying times can differ from place to place
I like to trim before I dry its a pain in the ass to trim after
as far as different method what do you mean? trim before or after?
hang in branches or the whole plant, drying on a rack?

I still haven't perfectly perfected curing/drying yet, but typically this is what I do. I first trim the buds and wash them using Docbud's washing technique, then I hang them in my cardboard curing box by hanging them on strings. I do have a small circulation fan that slowly sucks air through the box, and usually drying takes anywhere from 3-5 days or so. My indicator is not the stems snapping, I usually put them in jars right before the stem snap. Usually my indicator is I feel the buds and when the outside 50% is crispy but the insides are still slightly moist, this is when I typcially jar the buds. The first fed days I am constantly opening the jar (about 4x per day) and usually I leave the jars open until the buds feel crispy on the outside again, then I close the jars and wait for the outsides to get moist again. Once the majority of the moisture leaves (usually first 3 days) then I got to opening the jar about 1-2x a day for the first week, and then about 1x per week on week 2 and 3..then there done :) letting them go longer definitely brings out more complex smells and tastes and usually around the 5th to 6th week of curing seems to promote the best flavors for me, but anywhere from 3 or more weeks of curing and I am happy :)

Hey Everyone!! Back with a quick update!!

Today would make flowering day 50 and things are looking really good in the flowering tent. The girls are bulking up quite a bit and getting frostier by the day! I am noticing a bit of leaf discoloration and I believe it may be a Phosporus issue but since I am so close to harvest (prob 2-4 weeks away for most of the plants) I am not too worried about it. I will be giving them a t and J compost tea on tuesday, right before I leave out of town and I hope that they can make it about a week while I am gone and I am sure they will be fine, just very thirsty when I get home :)

Well here is the photos for today...

I looked at an old video and it just happen to be yours. Do you still use SNS 311 to wash your buds ? Or lemon soda mix ? Im also at day 50 and i foliar feed Mg. Making the buds wet does add days to drying but allows for a better smoke when evenly dried. I always just used warm RO water.
