Icemud Goes LED - Featuring Top LED Grow - Cherry Pie GSC/OGiesel/SFV OG/UVH OG

Re: Icemud Goes LED: Featuring Top LED Grow: Cherry Pie - GSC - OGiesel - SFV OG - UV

I'm curious, how far away do you have your Mars II lights from the plants? The pics make it look like you have them really close, and they seem to be thriving like crazy! I've got the Mars II 400w and its about 3 feet from the tops. I was afraid I'd burn mine, I went from CFL's to the LED. Should I move mine closer? Thanks!

I would estimate that they are about 18" away from the plants... I've had them as close as 12" with no problems of burning. I believe the burning is due to actual heat and not light intensity itself, but I could be mistaken.

IceBud :). Sorry couldnt resist with those beautiful pictures of Alpine Frosted Buds(tm)
My plants are growing out new branches, leaves, etc but not getting too tall. They are about 6-8" tall and each plant top about 6-8" across They are vegged 5 weeks old from bean planting. Most are in 2gal pots. I will transplant them into their final pots next week.
My mars ll 240x5 is about 28" from tops.
My question to you( w/o pictures, plants are very healthy- using DBs HB kit and instructions :) )
Do they shoot up proportionatelymore as they approach flowering?
Are my lights too close to stimulate reach? No light or heat burn at all. Avr RH 48-60%. Avr Temps 65-78
TYIA

Your plant height issues may be strain related. I've grow strains before like OG kush that just want to stretch and get as tall as you will let them, and then I have grown plants like my Ogiesel, and bubba kush's that hardly grow more than 2' tall with 3 months of veg, but want to bush out... so I believe it is genetics that will have the biggest influence on plant height.

Not sure if you were asking if I am using Docbuds kit....No I am not...I am using promix modified to my own experimental liking.

Plants will typcially grow double to even sometimes triple in size once you flip to 12/12 and induce flowering. Some strains however don't stretch at all, and again it is genetic related. This usually doesn't happen though until you flip to 12 12 or similar flowering schedule.

Color spectrum does have some influence on growth, more red usually increases internode distance and makes plants stretchy where as more blue light generally decreases internode growth.

Thank you! I did know you were doing IceMuds Very Nice Soil :). Im doing HB soil using docs kit.
I have seeds from a buddy who had acquired excellent seeds but combined them before giving to me. I have one i definitely know.. a fem WW.
I have one from Negril...stowed away in a bathing suit ..oh well ;) The shade leaves are size of a dinner plate. I think its a sativa?

I agree with ice. Depends on genes. You can force a strech by doing less light with longer veg. Genes are first expense in everyones setup. I try to run only clones of plants i grew that taste good.

So, Today would be day 31 of flowering from the flip and so far the ladies are looking pretty darn good :)

They still have a decent amount of moisture in the pots so they probably wont be getting a watering for a while as of now. At least 3-4 days or so. I did however give them a foliar feeding tonight of some Amaze, PGR, Carboload, cold pressed seaweed, and organic b, with a little yucca extract and fulvic acid as well. I sprayed the girls and mixed the nutrients very light this time, because last time was too strong and I burned the pistils so I knocked the amounts down to 1/2 of what they were last feeding.

Other than that the girls are looking alright. I did notice some dead leaves in the foliage I have to take care of so they will go tomorrow as I give a slightly more detailed defoliation as well to thin things out some more and make some light hit the smaller buds below.

I have to say if things keep going the way they have been, I should have a pretty nice yield this run :)

Here are the photo's for tonight.

I definitely am going to try out Doc's kit in the near future. I wanted to take all the "non lab" methods to high brix first so I can get an idea of how high I can get the plants as far as brix, and then I want to move over to Docbuds kit and see how the grow changes. I would say by the end of this year I should be giving Docbud's kit a run :)

I have some gifted seeds from different areas saved as well. My goal is to get as many different seeds in my own personal seed bank as possible so I can just pick and choose what strains to run and don't have to keep so many plants. :)

I don't mind at all ! I may even be building another for my other tent since it works so well :)

There is a thread I started a long time ago about how I built the v-scrog. With a quick google search you should be able to find it, but it went over the materials, cost and how I put it together. I think its called "how to build a v-scrog screen for under 20 bucks" or something like that.

Start at two feet and move lights down till you notice a difference. Then mark distance and dont put that close. I do 10-14 in but depends on total wattage and size diodes used. If you get a piece of white paper you and see the light intensity on the sides. Leds need to be close due to weak peripheral lighting
gave you a couple new green bars by your name for that thanks cas :rocker:

thats the way to go bro-ice i collected many beans in 2011-2012 and now have at least 30 crosses in addition to the 50 or so strains in my bank im excited to try out, i just gotta stop cloning all the dang time i just have so much fun with the new diy aero cloner its amazing to see roots 1/2inch long in 4-5 days! they are 2 ft long now (21days from cut) aero RULEZ! :rocker: LOL

Yeah I can't wait to have a whole seed bank of my own so I can just pull a few beans, get em started, and then choose which one to cross them with :) So many combo's I could have from 10 different strains :)

remember reading this before i was even a member! didnt have the space or need of a v scrog....in the future im hoping.

pictures looking amazing!

Hey Hidden Koncept!!! Thanks for joining along and for the nice vibes!! for small spaces, Scrogs definitely are nice to bump up yield and also organize the buds :) Hope you stay tuned because I have a feeling these are going to turn out great this run :)

Re: Icemud Goes LED: Featuring Top LED Grow: Cherry Pie - GSC - OGiesel - SFV OG - UV

Hey Everyone!

Just wanted to do a quick update. Today would make Day 38 of flowering and the tent is really looking great :) Should just be a matter of about another month and the girls will be ready to harvest :) It seems last run they were slightly on the uppity side for my liking so I will run them an extra week or so to help give it a slightly more heavy high which I prefer :) but not too much because I don't wanna just fall asleep either :)

Anyhow. I fed the girls today a combo of T and J and some Earthjuice and Hydrolyzed squid. I wanted to give a little organic material to the soil as well as give it a few different kinds of nitrogen as the sources, some fast used and some that will break down over time :)

Here are the photos after I watered them

Hey Ice,I recall there was some discussion on heat with LED.I was using a 400w HPS magnetic balast for flower:bravo:

Hey Ice,I recall there was some discussion on heat with LED.I was using 400w magnetic balast, with balast monted in grow area also.My grow area is close to yours.I replaced this with 2 80x5 leds and there is still less heat than the magnetic 400.I also used an open wing reflector. These leds are also using less electric and I am also able to cover the entire area instead of just the foot print of the 400.Just some info for those with out cool tubes. Also with your experience with these lights, what would you say the 2 80x5's are comparable to in HPS.Grow looks great and thanks for all the detailed info.:bravo:

IceMud.... WOW.... These babies are really looking good!!!

Just wanted to say Im really thankful I found your journal. Lots of information and your results (and BID journal) helped me decide on going with TOPLED and the 5 400w mars2 i bought. So far your recommendation for me to buy the 5 is working out perfectly!

Cant wait to see how your yield ends up, im predicting lots of frosty buds!!!
