You don't make hash with a press. ;) I watched all of videos from the late hash master Frenchy Cannoli.

It is split into 4 vids watch all 4.

And amber outside is different from amber in a tent. I'll post more info on that when I get to my computer.
Sorry for the delay! Here is a post I made about harvesting outside:

It's not so much that trichome color generally may not be as accurate outside as much as it is that amber may not be the best gauge outside.

@Amy Gardner always told me that outside amber isn't like tent amber because of the impact of the sun on trichomes, and BeezLuiz discovered that harvesting based on the standard tent-based reading of amber left him with very low THC numbers and zero CBN. Here are his tests results.

So we are harvesting later than we have in the past to see how that goes. I've taken to letting the plant tell me when it's done, including when the smell changes and it starts drinking much more slowly, in addition to the number of cloudy/clear trichomes.

I'm at bout 5-10% on the amber to cloudy. What I was always told was to have a higher cloudy to amber count. Having said that, When they start turning amber you start loosing the CBD and THC levels. Last year I was at a higher amber to to cloudy count. This year I have taking small samples and watching the pistols more. The plants that all but turned the pistols to brown are the ones that look ready. The others still have a low cloudy rate than clear.

The Aroma is new but interesting. Lately mine have started the stink mode way more pungent than last year.

I think some has to do with the strain and what you want from it. Thanks @InTheShed good info to consider.

Thanks! Thats interesting! Up until Shed mentioned it I was looking at the amber hairs vs trichomes! Took this pic today Do y'all think it looks like cloudy trichomes? I don't see much amber in my trichomes yet.

This little branch broke off last week so I decided to practice my trimming. I’m keeping it in a card board box for now. How did I do with the trimming?

Shed thank you i read the above info. I put this one in a box with no holes in ot for 4 days and when i opened it the bouquet was AMAZING!!! Yesterday i punched about 3 little holes about 1/8 inch wide yesterday as i remembered we need ventilation. The smell completely left and it jsut kinda smells like hay now. So tell me what i did wrong. I know this was very early ( the branch was snipped a week ago) but where did the smell go? Should not have put holes in a cardboard box? I'm just testing a few methods ( laing a bud in a box vs my hanging herb rack.)

Your plants will probably not be ready for at least 2 weeks, as it's a rare outside plant ready for harvest this early. And to really see the color of your calyx trichomes you will need a loupe or magnifier. A cheap jeweler's loupe if your hands are steady (but hard to take pictures with) all the way up to one of those new wifi microscopes for $40. That's what I use now.

Your buds should smell like hay or wet grass while they are drying, as that's the chlorophyll leaving the plant (a good thing). That smell will probably go away by the second week post-chop.

To add on to what Shed said: and if you cure after that in jars, meaning you put the buds in mason jars and replace the air regularly, the delicious smells all come back to an even BETTER place! Looking like they are near the end….

well i'm a jeweler, i have scopes. i'll take a closer look. One of my plants looks like it's coming to the end of its season, leaves are curling up and turning brownish gold.

Looks like some amber on a sugar leaf. Is that what you're seeing?
No it’s the little heads that look like on the end of the try combs that are turning a little dark I can’t tell if these are milky but I think they are it’s a little hard because I’m using my camera phone to take a picture of a tiny Chinese microscope screen

But that looks like the shape of a sugar leaf rather than a calyx. Can you get closer with the scope and not use the 3x zoom on it?

The idea is to look at the trichomes here (calyx/bract):

rather than here (sugar leaves):

how is this?

That's a little to high tech! Frenchy know what he's doing, there must be simpler methods, only watched the first one

I use a set of bags a drill and paddle. Total cost was about $150 and a lot of work, nothing high tech ;) It was worth it for me. The small washer he has can be had for between $120-200. The big washer is a few grand and yeah I don't do enough to justify that.

It's way too early to predict an Oct. 5 harvest date!

Most folks use 62% packs so that's a good guideline, and how long the buds dry before burping will completely depend on the RH where they're drying. You want to jar them when the buds are around 70% so you can burp them down to 62% over two weeks or so, before sealing them up for the cure.

An alternative to jars for large harvests are turkey roasting bags in sealed buckets, like from Home Depot or Lowe's. I burp in the turkey bags but still cure in jars, but buckets work well for large quantities if they're closed tight.

@Morda Grown I've had major aphid infestations in flower without rot, so I'm thinking there was a different cause for yours. My rot was either caterpillars or dense buds/high humidity/bad luck.
how do you know when they are 70% dry? I have read that the stems should snap and buds should sound crunchy like popcorn and it usually takes 7 to 10 days given the right humidity?
