I Ain't Afraid Of No Ghost - Seedsman's Purple Ghost Candy Comparative Grow SIP/SCROG

Day 11 Update:

Well typical me, have a plan and dont stick to it hahaha

I charged the Pro Mix and topped the sips up today so that I am using more of the buckets than my original fill. Charged with 2g/gal and once filled I used the rest of the gallon between the 2 for a top watering to try and promote some root growth up there and to properly get all of the promix settled.

Not too much else to report on today. The are both still cruising right along and looking happy.

Numbers are pretty much in line with my goal across the board for week 2 with the exception of VPD. I am pretty much at next weeks goal, which makes it easy for next week, not changed to the controller :)

That pretty much sums today up, except, in case you didn't know, I aint afraid of not ghosts!

I run scrogs almost exclusively. :)

Somehow the plants know if a shoot is at the top or lower on the plant and the shoots get different hormones.:hmmmm::) When you bend them over on the net (soft) or screen(hard), it triggers the plant to give the lower shoots some of that (I'm at the top hormone), and many many shoots start heading to the light, thinking they are dominant.:hmmmm::love::cheesygrinsmiley: No need to top, you'll get plenty of new vertical growth. :bong:

Most of the PGCs I'm growing more than tripled in height after flip.:cheesygrinsmiley: So, you should have some time to keep tying stuff down after flip before stretch is over.:) Might even get a 2nd net ready, mainly for support.🤠:cheer:
So sounds like you are using the "bend over" method to huh? hahaha OK wont go there!!

When did you bend your PGC's over and would you change when you did if you grew them again?

Thanks!

It's best to let them go a few inches past the screen in my case. :) I use a piece of fence, it's pretty rigid. I just bend things over and loosely tie them down with pipe cleaners. If they are tied too tight, as the stem gets larger it can grow around the pipe cleaner. I set my first screen pretty close to the plant. Around 7inches/18cm is easy for me to work with but I could probably do it with with 5 inches/ 13cm.:hmmmm::) Just tie them down as they grow through and try and direct things in the direction you think needs more filling. If your using a soft net, then you might want to both weave and tie down things.
It took a little over a week for my PGC to start stretching and they stretched for more than two weeks.
So, you should be able to tie things down for at least two more weeks after flipping and still get some vertical growth. I would feel good about running that way indoors.:):bong:

Yeah that’s pretty much what I was thinking. Ultimately just want big colas, or what will turn into big colas above the net :)

Day 12 update:

Well almost 2 weeks in already and they are just ghosting right through this! Its been easy street with them so far.

Numbers are all pretty much in line, though I am at next weeks VPD goal of .8. Lighting is right where it should be at 16.38 on average between the two plants. I might lower the light distance a tad to get closer to 18, in 2 days they should be at 20. Though with how much I have going on today I will probably just do it on Tuesday :)

The water I fed them yesterday to settle all of the ProMix almost filled each of their reservoirs. I am guessing in the next week - 10 days they are going to hit that water table and then it is game on!

They are a tad on the dark green side, doesn't really show in the pictures, but there is no burned tips, so I am probably riding the line of too much nutes. I am guessing it is from me jumping to next weeks nute level this week with the whole promix situation.... Will keep an eye on it, though I think they will be fine.

That's it for now, time to go mow and trim and all that fun yard stuff with some good tunes blasting in my ears and the taste of Banner in my mouth :blunt:

Whatever height you choose, make sure there's room to get under there and prune. By the time you flip, the area under the net should be completely clean.
Good call out there :) Thanks!

Day 14 update:

Ok 2 weeks in now. Will make all of the adjustments to my numbers today to get to my weekly goals.

Really just need to adjust DLI and nutes as my VPD was already at this weeks goal.

I think I am still saying they are in sprout for this next full week and then next Tuesday will be day 1 of veg. So with that said I think I am on track to flip on July 16th. Would like to be able to harvest the last week of Sept. - first week of October so that I can smoke some PGC on Halloween :)

They are looking pretty good as far as I can tell. Dana is still on the short side and behind in growth, they both sprouted the same day and have had the exact same everything. So I am guessing it is just how it goes. Still hoping to get one of them purple ones out of them.

Ohh also, I’ve not watered since Saturday I think it was when I tipped off the promix. The stuff I topped off with was wet, their reservoirs are full and the top is still wet. I’m not watering until they tell me they need. Well I will probably give it into Thursday and then feed them again. I might actually drain the reservoirs at that point to so that what’s sitting in there is at the right nute ratio.

Whelp that’s it for this update. Not too much to do but kick back and watch :)

Day 15 and still ghosting:

I decided to top water them today as the top had dried a tad.

Numbers are in line and they seem to be ok with me moving the lights a couple inches closer to hit my DLI of 20 or 347 ppfd. VPD will be just on the low side all week as I ran on the high side all week last week. I might run into that pattern a little until my VPD goals get higher and thus the need for a humidifier isn’t needed. I might need to look into a dehumidifier solution come late July and August. Not looking forward to that if so.

Anyway that’s it for today.

How many watts are they under mate?
I'm still trying to work out why mine grew like bamboo under 40w/sq ft LED
Only seen @Keffka have a similar problem
I took cuttings, they are still taller than a GSC in flower :hmmmm: 🤔

I got all Sativa, no hybrid. Not even the bud formation is hybrid. If I didn’t plant the seeds myself I would be skeptical that the plant was a hybrid at all

Wouldn’t be surprised to see the purple pop out on these, but I’m not holding my breath. The one purple I’ve seen was very hybrid in morphology

I have 2 ViparSpectra p2000’s in there. So 400w total but both are at 50% currently and about 16” away. I would go measure for you right now exactly how far away they are but I just sat my lazy ass on the couch. When my glass is broken and I have to get up I will go measure :)

I went with lights closer to the plants and lower power than lights higher in the tent and more power as I figure it leaves more headroom in both the power and space arena’s. I figure keep the lights as close to the plants as possible while still maintaining my DLI goals. I think this gives the best light penetration through the entire plant.

I hammered mine with light close from the beginning, so I’m leaning toward phenotype responses. I manifolded, and quad lined, and they still triple stretched on me. I haven’t seen any strain other than a full blooded sativa do that.

Seems like lots are seeing that stretch with this strain. That’s why I’m only going to veg for 4 weeks :) I’m going to do some LST and then toss a net on them to try and train/tame that stretch.

I reckon scrog would work well
