I Ain't Afraid Of No Ghost - Seedsman's Purple Ghost Candy Comparative Grow SIP/SCROG

Does it wobble now?
It’s still drying but I don’t think it is past the lip of the bucket. If anything it will push that bulge up to level the bottom back out.

Can’t have a wobbly bucket!

Now that I have her out and looking, this damn ProMix really settled!! It was about 3/4 from the top. And looking back at the original pictures it looks like it had settled like that before I even put the seeds in… I had made note to check that after I pre charged the promix and forgot.

I’m thinking I’m going to have to top them off again this weekend! Leaving too much unused space there.

If the top stays damp you'll get new roots where you bury the stem.
I thought so. Top seems to stay wet enough with these sips.

Day 8 update:

Slimer’s sip does not appear to have leaked since yesterday.

They are both starting to develop a little and moving along nicely.

I am slightly over target in the VPD department at .76 to a goal of .7 but other than that everything is in line with my goals for the week so far. It’s a bitch getting the humidifier and fans to work together to keep everything just right.

I think they will both be ready by Sunday to refill with promix. I will probably precharge half a bucket of it with 2g/gal for 24 hours and then top with that. This way it’s already wet and ready to go at next weeks nute level.

Well that’s the plan for now and in case you didn’t know, I ain’t afraid of no ghosts!

Day 9 update:

They are are still ghouling right along!

This morning the new growth was a tad pale but looks nice and green this afternoon. Just new growth green I guess.

VPD ran and .8 today, goal is .7 I guess it was hard to keep the humidity up consistently with the heater and the fans kicking on to keep temp in check. Not the end of the world and the girls seem fine.

Tomorrow I will get my pre charge action on some ProMix ready to fill up the SIPs on Sunday.

Also if anyone has a solid SCROG tutorial along with LST for SCROG I would be interested in reading it.

I read the one over at RQS and it looks pretty good but I would like a little more specific information like what nodes to top at and then what nodes to LST etc. I have an idea of how I think it works, but knowing me I am thinking about it all wrong hahah.

Anyway here are todays pics.

If you're topping first then I figure all you need is binder clips and pipe cleaners! The way I train after topping (which you'll get to watch ;) ) is lowest node gets pulled into the middle to help it reach the top, and the top two nodes get laid flat while the rest catch up. Once the canopy is level you decide when to flip.

Unless you're looking to scrog and then you have other options.

Need a counterpoise when just bending the top over? Seems like the plant might rip out hahaha.

I think would rather top and train it but that laydown method seems like that would work. So would you prune back the side closest to the ground and then the side facing up would all essentially turn into colas?

Yes, and you might want to read this excellent thread on LST someone made:

Depends on how long and how much room you have. If you're in a hurry then you would just keep the topside ones, but the ones facing the soil will make the net eventually and double your colas. Some folks do a slight twist as they bend to keep the branches flat with neither up or down.

Good write up there Shed!

So when you do that you want until the 9th node is just forming and then bend it over?

Seems like a good plan that will work. Originally I was thinking would top and the train to a rectangle shape as that’s what shape their portion of the net is going to be.

I don't think there's a specific node because a lot will depend on the height and node spacing, as well as the height of the net. If you decide where you want the net (for workability) you can let the plant get there and then bend it.

The main thing is to make sure you have enough nodes below the bend to work with, and enough height of the plant to bend it without angling the trunk out of the soil.

Makes sense :)

With how these PGC’s have been stretching for every one else I was planning on putting the net in the first week of flip at whatever height the plants are at. Then just working them back under the net, hopefully to fill the net, until stretch is over. Then I would just let the tops do their thing.

Now I am rethinking this with bending them over probably in their second to third week of veg, depending on what you mentioned with height and node spacing. Letting that ride until flip and then proceed with my original plan with the net going in the first week of flip and bending all back under the net during stretch.

I will probably do a big defoliation the week leading into flip and remove any of the lowers that will just produce larf. Thanks again for those pictures you posted on your journal, really helps with visual like that.

My goal is to have just colas and no larf :)

All baby arms baby!!!

Netting after flip limits the amount of net you can fill (leaving it up to the plant), so starting earlier will definitely help get those squares completed. And the cleaner you keep the growth under the net the more you move growth where you want it, so no reason to wait until a week before flip to thin.

You can always put another net on in flower just to hold up the colas!

I run scrogs almost exclusively. :)

Somehow the plants know if a shoot is at the top or lower on the plant and the shoots get different hormones.:hmmmm::) When you bend them over on the net (soft) or screen(hard), it triggers the plant to give the lower shoots some of that (I'm at the top hormone), and many many shoots start heading to the light, thinking they are dominant.:hmmmm::love::cheesygrinsmiley: No need to top, you'll get plenty of new vertical growth. :bong:

Most of the PGCs I'm growing more than tripled in height after flip.:cheesygrinsmiley: So, you should have some time to keep tying stuff down after flip before stretch is over.:) Might even get a 2nd net ready, mainly for support.🤠:cheer:
