Hypo Hippy's first indoor grow

"Find yourself checking everything you can, including the pet's water bowl"

lol

There is bound to be a site somehwere giving best practices for those seeds even if nirvana are too lazy to do so. I was checking on some of mine today (dinafem) and it was suggested to be in dark for 5 days before flowering so that where I figure dit be sensible to do the same for each strain.

There are some useful strain guides about.

Question for all you experts out there. We are getting ready to go into flower mode tomorrow and I was wondering how much, if any light radiates from a space heater? When the heater is in the heat mode, the coils glow red. I was wondering if there is anything to worry about with that radiated light? I am trying to take all the precautions and this is just about the last thing that I can see as a potential problem...which it might not even pan out to be. I have heard that during the 12/12 cycle that the hormone that triggers flowering is extremely sensitive to any light. Thanks in advance guys. Be good..or don't get caught.

Wwould be classed as light I have read everywhere. Hence people cover up the tiniest of cracks. I don't kno why this is tho, it doesnt really make sense as it wouldnt be pitch black in real life would it?

Nirvana is really good about replying to support. I sent in a question about what a plant's growth habits are, and got a direct response in a day. Being from the US, I didn't say I was growing, but was just inquiring about the best growth practice for weeks of veg and flower for the strain. I would recommend not mentioning that you are growing, but just wondering. Hope that helps.

RolledupJoe......welcome my man. Thanks for the advice. I will certainly do that and see what the feedback is. One problem is that of the five plants I have, I only know for sure that two are White Widows. The other three are from the freebie seeds I got with my order of ten widows. Anyhow, thanks for the advice.

I am not an expert, but great question!

I've always wondered about this when I grow outdoors. What about the Moon? It's out there in some phase or another half of the growing nights and Nature does very well with it. Since I grow on the back porch and love watching it, I've thought nothing of turning on our porch light which is a 13w CFL mounted about 4 ft over the back door and anywhere from 10 to 16 feet from the plants, I've generally had great quality and huge buds out there. Am I taking away something from the plants by turning the little light on.. Could it be perhaps, that the Moon is reflecting sun light only and that the small porchlight is a minimal irritation? I'm sure someone will know about this......And I better stop rambling.:grinjoint:

Well guys.....later today (it is after midnight) we flush the girls and nute em up with the blooming nutes, switch out the MH bulb for the HPS and commence the 12/12 cycle. Can't wait! I am really stoked about starting this next chapter....this part is really fun. Hope at lest 2-3 of our 5 babies turns out to be XX. This is one time I don't want to see the Ys, if you know what I mean. Anyhow, be good. We will take some shots tomorrow of the little 'ladies" and pass em on. Goodnite

lol@Woodman. Definately food for thought (tho preferably after a smoke and I am dry as a bone)

Roll on Hypo, exciting times indeed!

Hey Hippy,

Thanks for stopping in on my journal the other day, kind words are always welcome. Your grow seems to be going great, I look forward to the bud porn. I have a couple of questions for you. What kind of soil and amendments are you using?. Also, other than the oscillating fan what type of ventilation system are you running?

As a new grower I am trying to figure these things out myself and since my grow room is a similar size to yours I thought you would be a good person to ask. Sorry if the answers to these questions are in a post somewhere but I didn't see them. Also if you get a minute check out my updates on my grow and tell me what you think.

Closet....thanks go out to you for stopping in. We are using Monrovia soil mixed with @20-25% perlite and about 5% vermiculite. Can't get FF stuff here and didn't want to pay for shipping on bags of soil. Plants are in 3 gal pots. For ventilation, we have a vent cut into the floor at the far end of the closet with a 4 inch dryer vent tube attached and bent to keep ambient light out. On the ceiling have a fan mounted (actually using an six inch oscillating-type fan removed from its base and mounted to blow into the ceiling space. The fan is on a timer and runs 15 on and 45 off right now, but as the ambient temps start rising will change that.....still too damn cold here in the deep South! Anyhow, this setup really moves the air into and out of the room. The draw on the dryer hose when the fan is running will extinguish a cig lighter instantly.

Well guys the deed has been done! We flushed each plant and fertilized with Big Bloom, Open Sesame, Happy Frog (0-5-0) and two drops of Superthrive per gallon. Each plant took about 3/4 of a gallon. Swapped out the MH for the HPS and did some rearranging. Whew, these girls are starting to stink! Getting more skunky by the minute. Got excited when I looked closely at Daisy and saw a preflower that to me is almost certainly female. No pistil, but it looks like a female flower without a pistil. Took some pics and will post later, but camera batts are recharging. Anyhow, take it easy.

Well guys I promised I would post some pics this evening. I have quite a few more in my gallery if you are interested.....just too many to put on here.

Here's a shot of Daisy's sun leaves...they are HUGE! sorry about the HPS lighting..kinda sux

Another shot of Daisy....damn she looks perky!

New look of the grow room...Gladys is in the back under the cfls. You can see the fan that blows on the ballast back in the rear of the closet.

Here is Gladys under the four big cfls in the 2700K spectrum...looks just like HPS doesn't it? The HPS light isn't on for this shot so I feel even better that they are the same color spectrum because it looks the same on film.

Took this through the new magnifying glass I bought at Radio Shack. Surprised how good the camera will focus through it to be honest. This is a closeup of her new FIMd tip....look at all those new tops! You can see the small pre-flower on Daisy on the right internode....hard to tell exactly what it is, but to me it looks more xx than xy. (hoping anyhow) Need to do some more experimenting with the camera/magnifying glass.
