Hyena's Never-Ending Adventures In Growing

Here's the weekly

HYENA'S GROW HOUSE update!

Now that everything is running smoothly, I only have to go up to the GH once a week or so. Actually, the sweet spot is 5 days or so but they can go a full week, which is only a problem for tent #1 with a 55-gallon reservoir. At the end of this run I have to replace it with a 100-gallon job like I did in tent #2, that really does extend the reasonable interval to a week, maybe more.

But everybody in both tents looks pretty healthy!

Tent #1, two weeks and two days into flower:

Not a bad leaf in sight. Everybody is stretching, just not as much as I'd like. I have become so used to my tall and lanky Sativas, this new venture emphasizing mostly-Indica, higher-yielding varieties means shorter plants. The Super Bud in the last grow was the exception, it went tall and really produced, 50% more than the other varieties.

But the sea is green...

There are already white pistils sprouting from every node of every plant, which is an absolute solid mass right now.

I did a 50-minute, painstaking defoliation, removing maybe 300 or more leaves, important in a canopy of this density not just for light to bud sites but for airflow. Throughout the job here and there I plucked a leaf and the one underneath had water on it, not an issue right now but a month from now I have to have airflow that will prohibit this.

Different personalities emerging...

So far, on our way to a lot of Blueberry and a bunch of Big Bud.

Meanwhile, in tent #2, the new kids are just settling in and starting to spread their wings...

Did the initial small defoliation and repositioning of growing branches, then dropped the scrog.

Here, too, every plant looks healthy. Each run, I reach the point where if one plant doesn't make it, I'm stuck with the option of sticking a couple autos in the open bucket (which isn't much of an option but it's plan B), but so far that hasn't happened. All 12 have made it the whole way. My luck still holding out. All is well.

Today the next phase begins...concentrates. I've looked every method over pretty well and everyone around me does dabs so my picture of the landscape is reasonably informed. Seems to me the all-natural heat press method is the most preferable for a lot of reasons and also perhaps the simplest. I have a nice 5-ton rosin press with 6x8-inch heat-controlled plates being delivered today. My focus on flower has been the driving force behind my quest for the ultimate buds, but the world of dabs calls to me, at least as a great use for the 2-plus pounds of sugary trim and lower-growth flowers I have. This suddenly very desirable by-product of my nuggy efforts might become as big a part of every run as the nug, in golden rosin form. I'm ready to learn at high speed. The reports on these efforts will soon follow so stay tuned!!

THIS is your brain on drugs...

My brain IS on drugs, so this is funny. :D:ganjamon:

Here's how we change. 2 1/2 years ago you said this. Someone once told me I've changed my mind on a subject. Naw...just made a new decision based on different information. One of these days I'll get my rosin out and have a night of it.

Last weekend I smoked from dawn to dark both days and got absolutely nothing accomplished except a lot of internet surfing and tv. It was fun. I'm not saying there isn't a place for that in life, we're simply happy, smart monkeys and we do what monkeys do, we monkey around. But I'm starting to see what dabs do to people, and it's different somehow. It's not very social, it's 100% about getting hammered and it looks, and feels, more like being a junkie. Those who do two dab hits and sit down to family game night aren't who I'm talking about. It's the growing number who intend to do that and end up just doing dabs all night. Its bad for those folks and the concentrate culture in my opinion is the main threat to expanding legalization. I think pot should be completely legal but I would still support a ban on concentrates because they are a loaded gun. Wow, the guy who is 1000% against government over-regulation just said ban something. But it's true. I watched those people at the Cannabis Cup, I listened to them and looked into their eyes. Things have changed. We will see where the evolution of all this goes.

Bottom line: you have to have a healthy respect for the addictive tendencies within yourself or drugs eventually do you. All I'm sayin'.

Yeah, reading that I think I still stand by almost all of it, except the idea of the government banning any form of Cannabis product. Hadn't thought that one completely through. The government only screws it up worse and man should be free to be responsible. Cannabis in all forms isn't heroin or meth, and just needs to be responsibly used.

Dabs vs. flower, though, is kind of like Whiskey vs. light beer...I can drink light beer all night and not get nearly as buzzed as three shots of hooch. If getting buzzed is the sole goal I guess whiskey is the logical choice and dabs is that, to me. I'm not sure it's possible to get a true overdose from smoking weed, but I do know you can get too high a lot more easily with concentrates, and to be fair, edibles are even more of a risk in that regard than any concentrate! The only time I have ever seen people truly dangerously wasted on pot was edible overdose and it was not pretty.

I've still not done my first dab, but now that I have looked at what I'm doing (growing) in a commercial sense, it makes sense to also produce rosin since I can and it adds value. I guess I will soon test my own theory and do my first few dabs, if only to test the product myself. But don't look for me to become a dabber...seriously, I enjoy every aspect of smoking way too much to hit my buzz limit that fast. I take my time on my ride.

I really enjoy dabbing, but don’t like getting overly ripped all the time...so I take little ones and they are great! Also, really great rosin tastes so so good! Cheers to your success my friend.

All about portion size, with food and booze and everything, really.

Yes I will be doing my press setup this week and soon will post first results. The freaking thing weighs a hundred pounds, I wrestled the case like a bear just to get it inside the front door.

Excited. !!

Happy Sunday!

Here's a weekend HYENA'S GROW HOUSE update!

Nothing to report about the GH, I only go up once a week now unless it's a harvest.

But I have a new friend! I call this segment MEET THE PRESS!

Yes there she is, my new Chinese girlfriend. :D  I think we might become a real good couple!

This thing is rated 10 tons...that's up to 20,000 POUNDS of pressure, which I'm sure could squeeze the color out of a rock. I'm excited to begin pressing and learn how to extract rosin. If I don't end up accidentally creating a small black hole with all this pressure, we might have a really cool Thanksgiving week.

The plates are a whopping 6x8 INCHES, yes, quite beefy for a home press. I think I will be able to do a half-ounce at a time and really rock it. Of course before I start I have about 25 YouTube vids to watch, but I love learning, especially about new ways to get high. :ganjamon: More reporting as it happens...

Meanwhile, I'm going to the Cincinnati Bengals game today...yes, my team is the only one left with a perfect record...0-10. Since the only thing I love more than pain is agony, Wifey and I will brave the cold and the emotional depression and go support this loose band of semi-talented players and felons. Seriously, our team is so bad if they win even one game they might bankrupt Las Vegas...they're so bad, even their Moms watch another game...I'm not saying they stink, but last week I parked my truck and left two Bengals season tickets on my dashboard, and when I came out, sure enough, my window was broken out and there on my dashboard was...four season tickets.:rip:

Yeah, we suck.

I think the only way we can improve in the off-season is a trade...maybe trade the entire team for another entire team.

Since it's Sunday, I said a prayer for my team. This was the response...

Okay I will! Go Bengals!!

Peace, Hyena

That was hilarious! Thanks. Cheers

Me too...when I heard he passed away, my only thought was "Shit, piss, fuck, cunt, cocksucker, motherfucker, and tit..." Those words will never be the same.

Peace, Hyena

Amen to that.

I guess every generation goes through it, and there are some really funny and talented actors/actresses out there now. However it's hard to replace a Carlin, Belushi, Rickman, Candy, etc.

WHOOP, here it is!

Another HYENA'S GROW HOUSE update!

Buzzed up to the ol' Gh really early...driving almost 3 hours is kind of cool in the darkness of 5:30 a.m. and you get to see the sunrise in all its glory. And it is glorious...when you're smoking a huge fatty of the danky doo.

So when I got there Tent #1was looking pretty sweet, now almost three weeks into flower...

It's getting harder to get in there. :meatballs:Everybody is becoming a unique individual, as always seems to happen.

Differences in structure and stretch are proving the rule that even identical plants are never identical. This run is Big Bud and Blueberry and I can hardly remember who's who but everyone looks very happy, blossoming nicely as expected.

Getting the first frost...yes!

In about 90 minutes of work total but no more, I took about 100-150 leaves in a basic defoliation to illuminate all those juicy bud sites which are just bursting into existence everywhere. Hardly seemed to make a dent but I know it did and the mid-canopy will get the light it needs to not be larfy.

So zipped her up and cracked Tent #2:

We are looking good in here too...everybody seems to have gotten through the inevitable minor growth setback that transplantation causes. I admit I've gotten a bit rougher and also faster when I transplant because I know they can take it, but no matter how carefully you do it there's always an initial week or so of recovery and they're now nicely through it and growing fast.

Trying to break the glass ceiling...sorry honey. You work for me.

I'm going to try to get an even bigger canopy, somehow...so this run, I'm not topping them at this point...they will get topped as soon as the apical bud gets about 6 inches above the net which is allowing them to get a lot more branches than previous runs. I fear overcrowding but I still felt like there was room for more last time around so let's get a little bigger...

And so over the next few days I plan to experiment with some pressing if I can. Meanwhile, as I figure out how to produce the very best-quality rosin, here in advance is my newly-branded packaging...

It's so cute! Just a fantasy at this point but who knows where it will go...

So Happy Thanksgiving to you.

I'm thankful and I hope you are too. Whatever you have, it only takes a minute to think of lots of people who have much less.

Peace, Hyena

I’m interested to see how the new topping method works. In my mind it should increase yield in a big way.

I hope so, it will also allow me to prune some of the lowers off and still have enough. Looks so easy in videos but God this is work!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Peace, Hyena

Thanks Jim...Now let's see what we can make to put in there, all that really matters...

Got 20,000 pounds of pressure to work with. Got dank weed. SOMETHING good will happen...!

Highya HM,

As usual, you have a gorgeous grow room X2! Does it get easier as time goes on? Good luck with your ambition and press. That machine is pretty impressive. Would be great to see it in action! (I'm not soliciting a visit) Love your grow methods, and success. Cheers
