WOW...FINALLY...! Another
HYENA'S GROW HOUSE update!
Well, I stayed away a full eight days. Longer than ever before. I figured I would try it since wifey and I were going to the Far Northern Command in Northern Michigan for the weekend and it didn't make sense to drive up then drive up again a day later. I was worried, I won't lie...I prayed for guidance...
Thanks for the guidance. It worked.
But before I could leave Thursday afternoon, I had to transplant the new babies for Run #4.
It always surprises me how dicey it is to try to get 12 healthy seedlings from seeds, all within 3-4 days of each other. With my setup it makes no sense to run less than 12 plants, and this time around I had to use 20 seeds to get the magic number of 12. The seeds were all from Run #1, all but 2 a self-cross of a Big Bud plant, and the other 2 a cross between Big Bud and White Widow. The former came from the most productive of the 4 Big Bud phenos, and who wouldn't be excited about the latter? But even though the seeds were all as fresh as it gets, some didn't sprout fast enough, and some didn't even sprout.
But most did.
And just in the nick of time, I had enough to fill 12 pots.
After some work I had them all in and the water tubes all adjusted just right...
And the next run is growing!
So then we drove up to the GH. We got there late so it actually worked out to nine days by Friday morning when I cracked the tents and took a look. I knew this was really, really pushing the limits of the 55-gallon-max capacity of tent #1, and when I looked in the barrel sure enough there was less than ten gallons in there. Maybe five! The plants looked a little less energetic than they could have but no apparent damage done, and everything looked better early Friday morning after a couple flood cycles. They probably had pretty much no water for several days at least. How did they make it? The super-absorbancy of the gallon or so of Perlite that forms the center of the root ball is life insurance, compared to using all-Hydroton clay balls. It's like a sponge in the middle, holding precious water to get them past a few dry days...which they probably just experienced. Why I use it. Ahhh, tricks.
So, in Tent #1 they look like this...
I scrogged a bit and they can keep spreading out...I plan to let this grow go a bit further in veg than the previous two, since these grows aren't stretching like the Sativa plants I have always been used to. In fact some are staying annoyingly stout. Soooo, I think I'll give a few extra weeks to this one and see if I can get bigger plants.
Our timing was such that we had to leave early so we headed up to the far Northern house. We had a great three days hanging out and getting it all ready for snowy Winter (and hopefully a lot of snowmobiling!). Then on Sunday on the way home we stopped back in at the Grow House.
Here's what Run #2 looks like, in all her glory:
Yes, it's awesome. I honestly can't believe how juicy and sweet it smells in here, no words can describe the incredibly wonderful aroma of all this Grade-A Primo weed.
Everything looks fine, no issues with temperature at this time of year so perfect mid-60s to low 70s and everybody seems like they like it. The buds on everything are hard as rocks, I've never ever had buds this rocky before and maybe it's the addition of the Terpinator and Bloom Booster.
Here's a few examples:
White Widow is some frosty shit...
The Super Bud looks, well, super...
And there's two different Blueberry phenos...both awesomely fragrant but the dark purplish one with really wide buds is especially enticing...
I have no idea how I got this insane stand of buds. I'm not this good.
I stood silently before it, experiencing the magnificent moment of fruition...of all the work, all the miles, all the time and yes...all the love. The moment you know it is done...and you have done it. So long awaited and so hoped for that it takes time to set in, to fully realize that Christmas has finally come. Ho Ho Ho!!
It is like some sort of primeval forest...
Never know who you'll see in one of those. And these guys better find new digs because it's all about to get chopped, baby!!
I have sampled the three buds I cut a week ago. Everything is absolutely great. So now the time has come and I'm planning to go back Wednesday to examine samples under the microscope. If we have any ambers I will be chopping half the plants, the six tallest, and hanging them to dry in large pieces with no trimming. The other six can go another week. I need to break the harvest process into two, two-day sessions instead of four days with no breaks. That was brutal. So my thought is maybe cut half, then a week later trim that half and cut/hang the other half, then trim the final lot up the following week. It shouldn't hurt anything to break up these operations into two parts and maybe even allow me to grow some longer-maturing varieties in the future and do one 8-week and one 9- or 10-week variety, staggering the harvests. It would open up my options beyond the 8-week limit I have now. Hmmmmm.
I have been watching videos and reading discussions and I'm wondering if drying the plants in larger, untrimmed chunks then dry trimming will make for even better nugs. Trimming dry makes for a more intense smell for sure compared to doing it all wet, and maybe the buds will dry a little tighter, at least that's what they say so I'll probably try it this time around.
So the trip might be pretty fast Wednesday, I might just hack, hang, and come home, giving them a week to dry naturally. Whatever happens, I'll tell you all about it!
I have been driving so much for this Grow House I think they might rename I-75...
Seriously.
Peace, Hyena
