I actually like my mini-hempies to get to that stage. They stop growing up and get bushier. Just have to soak them daily.
I grew a clone out all the way to harvest in a beer cup. Needed water near the beginning and end of 12/12. Grew 16" tall with a nice long cola. No leaf or growth problems associated with being root bound.
Don't plan on ever going smaller than 1/2 gallon again. Might do a grow with nothing but gallons. However, the 2.5 gallon hempies seem to give me the perfect balance between hempy and soil.
Lava rock buckets are never light. You need to pay attention to leaf droop. Kind of determined that mine need at least 1/2 gallon every two days but can go longer on full flood. The good thing about hempy is that it is real hard to overwater. It might be good to do 1 coco/perlite hempy at the same time. When it is light, water everything.
I have a lava rock *mulch* on a lot of the girls... you're right, they're never light... but they do get lighter.
I have been thinking of putting a few to go cup clones inside the cage... maximize the miniscule
Another reason I am getting fonder of the White Russians is that they're cheap dates... 1/2gal/3l bucket every week. That, and, they seem to wring everything out of their nutes...
