Homer's Legal 4-Plant Max Perpetual Minimalist Garden In Ontario

Got it! I haven't grown a clone out yet. I have one pathetic looking clone that I took from my nice Green Crack plant before I flipped the mother. It is definitely not as symmetrical or orderly as the plants from seed, so I hear what you are saying. Just tried cloning it to see how it worked, and will just keep this deformed specimen as a bonsai for a while.

Not an ingrate at all. I could see how getting a lower yield would be a disappointment, not to mention the hassle of dealing with an unruly plant. I'm so new to all of this that trying a wide variety of different strains is my focus right now. So kind of ending up in the same place as you - seeds for now. :)

No point in throwing out your bonsai because you never know what it will do in bud. I admit new strains are fun so even if I make seeds I will still have to grow some new strains. :high-five:

But my big objection to clones is that they have so many secondary branches I found instead of growing a few big buds I had lots of tiny ones that weren’t even worth harvesting.
I find that pre-flip strip and a post stretch clean-up takes care of that, strengthens the remaining branches, and can eliminate the tiny lower buds on the skinny branches. That's what I've done on my three in flower.
I think I read somewhere that MegaCrop doesn’t think they need any supplements but people were demanding it so they made something no one really needs?
I read that as well. They made it back when they were selling MC 1.0 which had a lot less K in it. They still sell it even though they've changed the formula because a. some folks are using it with a different nute line and b. some growers feel like they have to add something else when they go into flower.

Grow out a few for practice, because once you get the hang of it, it's a hell of a lot easier than growing from seed. All the worry for the first few weeks is gone, because once it has roots it's a full blown plant as old as the mother is. And you can flip it at any time without waiting for maturity.

Only one of these plants is from seed!

Very nice garden there Shed. I may have to rethink this cloning thing, lol. The only plant where you can really see the structure is the Bedroom Cookies but I would think that would be from a seed? As I become an expert like you I may turn to more cloning; live and learn.

I admit I didn't clean it up again once it was in flower. It got ahead of me and i just let it go. Next time I will take your advice and stay on top of it.

Do you add something during flower usually?

Thanks Homer! All are clones except the DTF. Though the Bedroom Cookies at the top right is completely untrained. Stripped of all small and inside growth yes, but untrained in structure. That you can see through it is part of the thinning to eliminate the small branches and budsites.

I knew I didn't do enough lower trimming but I am impressed by what you do with clones. Thanks for the pic and info, much appreciated. I do want to grow some to test things out in trials.

Not a thing on these. I tried a bit of silica with the Candidas earlier this year but it raised the K too much and locked out N. So I dialed it back so far that I've decided not to bother any more.

Interesting. They certainly seem to like it; they are all so green and happy looking. :thumb:

Looking at your Bedroom Cookies plant again I can see how far up you did clean each branch and that was my mistake for not.

I might have gone a bit far on it now that I see its bud structure, but I'm okay with that. I'm not desperate for weed at the moment! Next time I would take off just as much in the middle but leave a bit more on the ends of the branches that I'm keeping. But my AK-47 I know exactly how much to take as I've grown so many clones of it now.

I'm just on a #nolarf kick at the moment after having so many skinny branches with tiny buds.

Wow!! Thanks is a beautiful carpet of green there.. nice job!! Yes, I will keep taking cuttings now and then to practice cloning, if for nothing else than the learning curve. Some day I will have a plant that I just have to keep around, and having a bit of practice would be smart.

Amazing photo! :)

I totally agree with your #nolarf because I suspect if you get rid of the little stuff the bigger stuff with be bigger but of course, I have absolutely no proof of this other than blind faith, lol.

Oh no, not going to throw the bonsai out. Just let her sit in the corner and veg for a long time. She seems quite happy to do so. Cushy life for her.

Thanks Bard, that's turf ;). No really, thanks! Practice is a great idea, and I take clones of everything I grow just in case one turns out to be a serious winner. If no one likes it you can toss the clone or gift it to someone else.

I had to get on a ladder to get that pic! I have too many plants at the moment.

I thought that might be the case but I actually think the harvest numbers will suffer from the thinning. Like I said, that's fine with me. I'd rather not deal with all the bitty bits!

Yes, I know, I was talking about the lawn, not those ugly plants. Ha! :)

I like the idea of cloning plants as I go, but space will become an issue pretty quick. For right now, I think just snagging cuttings of something that really grabs me is a good compromise. I have actually already gifted a seedling and one other clone that survived to a friend who couldn't get her own seeds going. I think she has already killed what I gave her. Sigh. lol.

That is a great problem to have!! :p

Agree! I would rather have a diminished crop than deal with all the extra trimming for a ball of fluff. I threw out a lot of fluff and it still took about twice as long to trim as my WW.

That is a really good idea but I need to stay under four plants for legal reasons.
