Homer's Legal 4-Plant Max Perpetual Minimalist Garden In Ontario

Since Thursday will be 12 weeks of bloom for my Gorilla Glue and the suggested bloom time is only 7 to 9 weeks I had a good look today at my triches.

This first pic is the only one that didn't have any amber.

All the rest although containing a considerable amount of clear have got enough amber that I'm afraid it's becoming sedative in effect so I will be harvesting Thursday. This next pick is a good example of lots of clear mixed in with lots of amber.

I’d still give it more time.
Hmmmmm... I didn't expect that. With all that amber I figured you would think it was time. Is it all the clear that bothers you because I admit I am surprised to see so much amber with so much clear.

Lol i just like a little more amber to take the edge off.
You answered my question before I asked it, lol. Maybe it just isn't a good idea to try to turn a hybrid into a Sativa by harvesting it early? You know better than me and the last thing I want is to have a crop that makes me feel edgy so I'll wait a bit longer.

They look ready to me Homer.
I would like to see a little less clear but then again I don't want it to be sedating but then again Penny knows a lot more than me but then again...

I am not familiar with GG, having not grown it or tried it for that matter

Because trichomes seem to develop differently under different lights, even the same strain, you may not get a lot of amber, and there may always seem to be a lot of clear. I prefer hash to bud, so tend to watch the ”swell” of the heads rather than colour. When I start seeing a number of headless stalks, like I see in the 4th pic, that has quite a few amber, thats when I harvest.

When the heads “burst”, it doesn’t hurt the bud for smoking as the oils are still on the bud, but that can’t be collected for hash.

If the majority of the trichomes looked like picture #3, thats what I would consider near perfect for making hash and is the point I harvest :)

Interesting but I never noticed heads missing before. I think pic #3 is pretty representative of the plant as a whole. Thanks for the input.

Homer, Is the GG still throwing out white pistils? Are most of the pistils orange, red or brown? I watch the trichomes before chop but first watch pistil production and changes before I break out the scope.

I will give it a few days and check again.
I recommend taking & quick-drying some samples to see where you like it. This is a great example of why I maintain that trichome color is a bad way to judge harvest time for a NEW strain. Best is to take samples and, when it's where you want it, note the trichome color mix, chop, and the NEXT time you grow a cutting of that same strain, you'll know when to harvest based on trichome color.

Ha. I never even thought to look for them either. You and I appear to be on a similar harvest schedule Homer. I’ve been looking at trichs every day since I want exactly what you want in your high. You’ve got that super duper magnifier - do you think maybe you are seeing the amber “better” with it and perhaps earlier than with a lesser tool? Hopefully that makes sense?

Thought you might find this quote interesting. It is from tonight on @InTheShed ’s journal.

Amber = degradation. So the question is whether the plant is producing fresh trichs faster than the old ones are ambering, And how much faster. :bongrip:

Carnival generally runs longer than 8 weeks - more like 10 - but there is a quick cultivar. I had one that was ready in 9. The others were all 10 or longer. The last one I had went 14 weeks.

If you want to chop, there's definitely enough amber to go for it. But if you're hesitant, take a good look at the fresh trichs. If they're all bright and sparkly and plentiful, it'd be worth waiting.
