Homer's Legal 4-Plant Max Perpetual Minimalist Garden In Ontario

That’s a lot of weed to give away.

Yes but there was a little bit of method to my madness. Before I really knew what I was doing I grew a Yummy plant and a Critical plant neither which impressed me much so I gave each of my two buddies an ounce of good Northern Lights and White Widow and then 3 ounces each of the Yummy and Critical strains I just wanted to get rid of. So basically I really gave away four good ounces. It was getting to the point I didn't have much room in my freezer with all the jars in there so I mostly got rid of the just average stuff.

I am a little more miserly now that I'm growing better plants with good bud; won't be giving that stuff away to the same extent. Besides they were good guys I worked with for decades so I wanted to help them out also so it was killing two birds with one stone.

Here in western Canada 99% iso available at the grow stores. I actually checked a couple weeks ago starting in 1 litre bottles up to 23 jugs.
Hmmmm.... I really didn't want to leave the house for another week till I had to get groceries but you are making an awful lot of sense, lol. I think I will try and find some Monday and get groceries early.

Hello, BudShark. I ordered, Super Lemon Haze Feminised Seeds, through Seedman and I forget the breeder but it is the one that bred this strain so it should be original for my Sativa grow.

I certainly should be happy with 10 ounces but I'm hoping that will be the lower limit because I already got 10 ounces off my Northern Lights Plant and that was only in a 5-gallon pot with a much smaller plant. I was sure I read on the Dr. Seeds site that Gorilla Glue was only a moderate yielder but I checked today and the Dr. Seeds site seems to have changed and now they say it is an ultrahigh yielder so I don't know what to expect.

When I had two NL plants in separate 5-gallon pots that I did not veg as long as this plant I got 13 ounces under the same light. So yes I would be content with 10 ounces but I admit from past harvests I would be a little disappointed. Anything over 13 ounces I would be thrilled with. Not that it really matters because I gave away 10 ounces a couple weeks ago to some friends because I'm running out of freezer space. But it's just fun to do better with every grow.
Super Lemon Haze, sounds very good. Wow, that is huge for 1 plant, you sure got it down, can't wait to see the results, plant is looking great. I just mailed off 10 ounces of Diesel to friends and family, they are pretty happy, lots of my Brother in laws smoke. Lol Sisters not that impressed. Lol Cheers

The Super Lemon Haze was recommended to me as a good Sativa so I looked it up and it does seem to be quite the award winner so I went with that for my daytime micro doser.

Yes, I am kind of stunned myself what a monster the Gorilla Glue has turned into; I think it is a matter of genetics more than anything and I have just managed to not screw it up.

Your brothers in law are very fortunate; sorry to hear about your sisters though, can't please all the people all the time. I know from experience especially family, LOL.

Today I called around to all the grocery stores and hardware stores in town and nobody has 99% isopropyl alcohol. A few had 70% and the ones that carry 99% didn't have it in stock. Maybe people in this area are drinking it instead of bleach.

There are two grow stores in my area that were closed today so I couldn't call so they are my last hope. Right now you can't even get it on Amazon.ca in Canada so this stuff is in real short supply it seems. If I can't get any I think I will do another test with ethyl alcohol because I want to get a baseline for a control with my Northern Lights when I start using isopropyl alcohol anyway.

That is probably because people were using it to make hand sanitizer. I was trying to get some aloe vera at the drugstore the pharmacist told me the same thing they can't keep it in stock because people are using it to make hand sanitizer. Try grow store.
I think you are right about people using it to disinfect but the odd thing is that every store I went to last time I got groceries had lots of hand sanitizer. But yes I will check the grow stores tomorrow and if they don't have it I will just use ethyl alcohol for now. Thanks, oldsmokey.

Despite losing some lower leaves my upper leaves are still green and healthy without any of the damage I often have by this stage so I think Penny is right that it is most likely just a natural die-off especially considering how thick the canopy is so the lower leaves aren't getting much light. Looking good so far because my leaves are healthy up top and she is really starting to bud the last few days so I think she is going to be a producer.

I am also glad Penny insisted I take some cuttings from this plant now that it is becoming such a beast. Thankfully my cuttings are now getting shoots out the bottom of their containers so it looks like they will survive.

One thing I have had time to do since I retired is really drill down on things and try to understand how they work and by that I mean mostly gadgets. I bought a Canon camcorder to do my time-lapse vids and I figured I would use it for stills also but now that I have really learned how to use my iPhone 7 camera I cannot believe what a great camera that phone has.

It has colour balance and I can lock both the focus and exposure but what I didn't even realize until today was once I lock the focus and exposure I can adjust the exposure independently of the focus as it stays locked. What a powerful little camera considering its size and how sharp it is. The cannon just doesn't compare.

It's funny but before I retired and took the time to figure out how my gadgets and programs worked I just thought they were all junk when in fact I just didn't know how to use them properly, LOL.

I used to just tap the screen on my iPhone 7 and that would bring up a little square so it would focus on and set the exposure according to whatever was in that square. What I didn't realize is if you hold your finger the focus and exposure actually lock so if you move your phone they stay the same. The other realization today was once I lock the focus and exposure by scrolling my finger up and down anywhere on the screen the focus lock remains the same but the exposure changes. Pretty simple features but until I discovered them it was pretty hard to take good pictures. And the little three coloured circles in the top right-hand corner are colour balance which is pretty easy to use once I looked into it.

That's all I learned but it made a heck of a difference.

I’ll play with mine tonite I think.
I was thinking, me too, but then I realized you were talking about your phone most likely.

I managed to find some 99% isopropyl alcohol at the local grow shop so I mixed a few batches up today. The extractions with the isopropyl don't look that much different than the ones I did with the ethyl alcohol.

The isopropyl sample on the far left was using the cold method with the bud and alcohol at 2.8°F and soaked for five minutes; the one beside it was soaked for one hour at room temperatures again with isopropyl alcohol. The cold method one is a little clearer so if it ends up having as much resin extracted I will go that method but since there isn't a big difference in clarity if the longer soaks in room temperature give more yield I will go that way.

Here are my bud and isopropyl alcohol cooling off in the freezer.

Here are the four samples of 1/2 ounce Northern Lights of decarbed bud I'm using for this experiment.

Here is the same cold sample in the previous photo along with the one hour sample that is still soaking that was in the other photo strained and I also have one sample I will leave for a day and another one for a week to see where the sweet spot is for recovery versus chlorophyll contamination.

I bought a gallon of isopropyl alcohol for $45 and I calculated using 8 ounces of isopropyl per ounce of bud going through 1/4 ounce of weed a week that gallon should last me 64 weeks. With my olive oil method of extraction I was only going through 1/8 of an ounce per week but since the alcohol extraction methods gives such a superior buzz I calculated for one-quarter ounce per week. I am having a fine old time.

I won't have my definitive yield results for at least two weeks because I'm going to let the one sample soak for a week and then it should take another week to evaporate but I will leave updates with the earlier results from the samples that are evaporating now.

Once I find the sweet spot for the isopropyl alcohol for the best volume of extraction I am going to do one more ethyl alcohol at the same sweet spot to see how they compare with extraction quantity just for curiosity.
