HID Grow - Revenge of the Kittens

Re: CriMson's HID Grow- Revenge of the Kittens

"Growing is so much fun, and so addicting lol."

For real!

I been off the weed for over amonth now, not by chopice but over the worse and feel pretty good but the growing thing I addicted to now whether I was smoking or not. I assure you I will be again tho but never forking out again for crap gear.

There are so many strains I wanna try the lot! So, no cloning or making seeds for me, just top quality proven female genetics. Should take me yearrrrs to find my favourite haha

Re: CriMson's HID Grow- Revenge of the Kittens

yeah dude, there are so many strains I want to try to grow.. I need to find a way to get seeds though, I don't want them ordered to my house, so I'm not sure how to get my hands on them. Once I figure that out and get cloning down, I will have a healthy variety of females to choose from. I plan on making seeds for each strain I buy, just to turn my initial investment into a very long supply of the genetics. That way 5 years down the road if i want to grow something awesome I had earlier, I will have the seeds already.

Re: CriMson's HID Grow- Revenge of the Kittens

Absolutely amigo, know where you are coming from for sure..

Funnily enough I found out this week that they actually sell them at the local nursery can you believe!

Re: CriMson's HID Grow- Revenge of the Kittens

High there CriMson. Plants are looking great! :bravo:

If you keep MH light on them for the first couple of weeks of flower it helps reduce the stretch. Or maybe add a few 6500K CFLs for the blue light. Just a thought. The biggest demand for nutes is during stretch so quite a bit of N is needed for all the growth that goes on. Best to feed them lots now or they may not form as many flowers. The first few weeks are best for bud boosters too to form more calyxs for later fattening. Right after the stretch the demand for nutes drops off rapidly to about 1/4 to a 1/3rd of needs during stretch. My tubs were eating 250 ppm/day during stretch then in a week as stretch slowed it dropped to 50-75 ppm/day. Then full flowering nutes with low N are the ticket for the rest of the fattening up period.

When I can afford some seeds by mail I'm getting them shipped to my son's or having him pick them up in Vancouver then mailing them to me here in a package with pix of the grandsons to be stealthy. For now I'll just play with the genetics I have at hand! :bong:

Thanks for stopping by bro, your advice is greatly appreciated.

I'll have to keep that in mind for next time. I already packed up the MH bulb and don't feel like getting it back out again.. The only CFL's I have on hand are 2700K, so that wouldn't work. They're doing really well with the HPS right now.

I switched back to the veg nutes until they're done stretching per your advice, and I have to tell you, they already seem to be thanking me for it. They get greener with each feeding, and I don't know if it's a coincidence, but I'm noticing a ton more hairs forming on all the lower bud sites. It's amazing how well these plants are doing, I often find myself standing there scratching my head thinking "these are my plants right?"

Over the weekend, I fed them some nutes at 3/4 strength (this MG all purpose is a bit strong, but the plants are loving it each time I bump up the potency.), and yesterday I gave them a good dose of plain distilled water.

On Friday night I decided to start germing 4 of the kush seeds I found in that last bag I bought.. It's insane how fast they cracked. I used the last of my happy frog and planted 3 of them.. The 4th should be ready to be planted when I get home. I'm excited about this as it's my first go at good genetics. I'm already seeing how much better they grow and they haven't even broken soil yet. I will be growing these 12/12 from seed, but I don't have any time constraints so I can let them go a bit longer.. It's more so for experimenting my grow style and seeing what works best and what gives good and/or bad results. I plan on cloning this strain, but I will probably wait until next time I grow it.. I still have 6 seeds left.

I'm resizing a ton of pics right now, so I'll throw them up in a few.

Re: CriMson's HID Grow- Revenge of the Kittens

Here are the pics as promised.. I cut down the one plant, it was sad as it was growing so nicely.. at 20" it was sprouting too many balls, so it met the knife.

I'm starting to think the smallest is a hermie.. I found a few spots that look like balls forming, yet there are 2 definite female preflowers. I'm going to give it some more time to see what else develops. The possible balls were there first and haven't progressed, then the hairs came, so hopefully it just threw some balls at first and the rest will be lady flowers.. I need to watch this one closely so it doesn't ruin the other 3 ladies.

The tallest two are pretty much the same height ~26", the other is around 24". HID is no joke when it comes to growing plants.

You guys agree the one on the right looks Sativa dominant?

very nice crim. i see huge colas in your future. Great job.

Re: CriMson's HID Grow- Revenge of the Kittens

Whats up guys, thanks for stopping by. Neutrino, I too used to skip the HID journals when I was growing with CFL's. Thanks for checkin out the garden though bro, it's good to have you here.

This morning when I shut the light off, I measured the biggest plant, the Sativa dom.. It measured 30" from the soil, and that is with an extra inch or so of soil I recently put in the pots to top them off (a little bit of roots were showing when I would water due to the soil settling). Last night when I flipped the lights on, she only measured just under 29".. The stretching is going well, I'm feeding them every other day. I was giving them all 16oz of water each time, but I've had to double it, they're just drinking so much water and growing so fast, it's hard to keep up with them lol. I'm giving them each 32oz of water every day when the lights come on. on feeding days, they get some MG all purpose at almost full strength. It calls for 1tsp/gal (12-4-8), and I've been giving them about .8tsp.. I'm not showing any signs of over fertilizing other than some slightly curled leaf tips up top. No yellowing or spotted leaves, so I'm going to keep going at the strength I'm at, then after the stretch switch to bloom nutes.

These things are getting big.. Bud sites everywhere.. The smallest plant is showing more hairs, so I'm guessing it's female. There were a few spots that started forming balls before anything else showed, but they haven't progressed at all.. I'm hoping its not a hermie.. There are much more female flowers forming than male, and the male aren't doing anything. I'm keeping my eye on it. I'm not expecting too much from it, .5oz will make me happy.. I haven't measured it, but I would estimate about 13-14" so it's a decent plant, growing very bushy.

Oh snap, next post is my 1,000 mark. Better make it good haha

Re: CriMson's HID Grow- Revenge of the Kittens

They are still growing a steady rate of an inch per day.. The tallest sativa dom was 30.5" this morning when the lights went off.. The little runt is showing hairs all over the place, which is good, but I found a couple of balls.. I don't know if they're new or previous, but I picked a couple of them off before they could get any bigger. I'm keeping a close eye on this plant to make sure it doesn't form any balls.. I would hate to ruin my crop because of it.

I have 3 of the kush sprouts that have broken soil.. They haven't shed their seed casing yet, but they're already doing well.. the 3 that sprouted are in happy frog and the last one that I'm waiting on is in FFOF. I've never used the ocean forest, but it is super light and has a nice smell to it, so I'm looking forward to using it. When they're big enough to transplant, they will all go in the ocean forest.

The flowering plants are really starting to bud up.. On the tops, there are hairs sprouting all over the place, and the calyxes are about to start forming. It's exciting, I've never had plants even close to this size.

I'm all out of herb at the moment.. That sour D didn't even last me a week haha. Oh well, it was some epic herb. It smelled and smoked way too good to not smoke it haha. I'm looking forward to harvest as I will have a pretty large supply to hold me over for quite a while. I'll actually be able to cure some of it and experience the effects of cured weed.

Re: CriMson's HID Grow- Revenge of the Kittens

lol, cured weed huh? You are getting posh with all this amigo!

Its great tho to look forward to the stuff, different things, maybe making some hash n stuff, v cool. I cant wait for all that stuff in another 2 or 3 months :-( lol

A couple o my babaies had thier first feed today, gulp, guess if they take it well they are fully fledged teenagers and not babies anymore.

Re: CriMson's HID Grow- Revenge of the Kittens

yeah dude, the first feeding always has me on the edge of my seat. I always start super weak though to let them adapt to it, it seems to work out well.

I thought about making hash, but I think I'm going to use all my trim to make some oil.. Me and my girl are always baking cookies and brownies, and I've never had any experience with edibles. Nothing would beat chilling at work eating some magic brownies haha

Re: CriMson's HID Grow- Revenge of the Kittens

All of my seeds have been sprouted in FFOF...has worked very well for me, I don't add any nutes until week four and have noticed no detrimental effects from waiting that long. I have read a few stories (mostly anecdotal, I think one was first-hand) about there being some hot spots in FFOF sometimes and burning seedlings but like anything in high quantity production there's bound to be bad batches here and there. This seems to be far from normal when using that soil though so don't let it worry you.

Best of luck with the edibles...I have yet to have any real luck getting any decent effects from any baked goods. A 20 minute buzz was about it from half a brownie...lame.

Re: CriMson's HID Grow- Revenge of the Kittens

Sounds good bro, I checked on them this morning and all 4 had broken soil and were standing straight up. 3 had shed their seed shells, and the 4th (in FFOF) is about to get rid of hers.

It's my first try at 12/12 from seed, so I'm interested to see how they grow.

I did notice with my current plants that they started showing deficiencies at about week 2-3. Some of the older leaves were yellowing, and I was starting to get purple stems.. This was in Happy Frog soil though, so that could have been why. Once I hit them with some N, they picked up and I haven't had any problems since. I have heard about the FFOF hot spots, but I'm not really worried about it, I also heard the same thing about Happy Frog, and I never had that problem.

I need to take some pics of these monsters.. They grew an inch last night, the tallest is standing at 32", and buds are starting to form everywhere.

:slide: Awesome on the new babies.

Re: CriMson's HID Grow- Revenge of the Kittens

...and I was starting to get purple stems..

I take it they're not supposed to be purple of your particular strain :p Mine has had purple tips on the new growth and purple stems since day 1 and shows no signs of letting off...bagseed, no clue what they really might be that has naturally occuring red/purple stems/growth.

Re: CriMson's HID Grow- Revenge of the Kittens

I don't think it's genetic since it stopped after I gave them nutrients. Can't be that lucky haha.

Here's a pic update.. 5 days since the last pics, look how much the buds have formed already! It's insane how fast they're developing. 5 days ago, the tallest was 26", this morning it was 35.5"

I have to mess around with my camera settings to get some clearer shots.. The HPS is so bright it messes up the clarity sometimes.

I gave them veg nutes up until Saturday, and the last 2 waterings have been plain water. I'm thinking of switching to bloom nutes today, do you guys think they're ready for that since they're really starting to pump out the flowers?
