Hempy Headquarters

Oh, as long as you are meeting a minimum DLI of 25. :ganjamon:
:passitleft:

I’m sorry Felipe.... DLI?

Thanks..... :passitleft: I’m smokin’ Durban Gold. You?

OK, I'm having a senior "don't know how to do something on this site" moment. I want to change a link in my signature line. I can't figure out how to edit it myself, and really don't like to bother the good folks here on 420 admin with something I thought I should be able to figure out. I want to change the "My Clone Box & 1st Clone Attempt" to it's new name and link A Micro Growers Clone/Seedling Box & Cloning Efforts. Any help would be hugely appreciated. TIA BTz

I’m sorry Felipe.... DLI?

Hi Sue! :passitleft:
No need to apologize. It’s a term that isn’t widely known yet. It means Daily Light Integral, and it’s the calculation of the intensity and duration of light in a 24-hour period, measured in moles per day.

DLI = PPFD (in micromoles/m-2 x s-1) x (T x 3600)/1,000,000
Where T = duration in hours

For example, an LED light providing an average PPFD of 350 across the canopy, run for 12 hrs, results in a DLI of 15. If run for 24 hours, you get a DLI of 30, which some studies suggest is ideal for cannabis.

Currently my canopy is 2 inches x 2 inches across.

I went looking at the lights I just installed from Timber and they all have PPFD # near or beyond 1000. Lol!

Ok...... when I'm not quite so tired I'll have to take a closer look at the formula and do some calculations.

You're full of wonderful information, aren't you Felipe? :battingeyelashes:

Sweet! You will be able to provide plenty of DLI for flowering, even at 12 hours. :yummy:

1000 x 0.0432 = 43.2

Cannabis, like tomato, is a high light plant, and flowers very well at 30 moles. If money (for big lights and electricity) isn’t an object, you can continue to increase the DLI, with diminishing returns, up to 60, which is about as high as outdoor DLI gets in the Southwest in June and July.

:passitleft:

Okay, so there’s several implications resulting from the DLI approach, if you just go for efficiency and high quality, and ignore the quest to eak out the highest possible gpw. :ganjamon:

For Autos, you can flower for up to 24 hours with a smaller light to get 30-35 moles.

For Photos, if you have a big light that gets 35 moles in only 10 hours, you can turn off the lights. This might help if you are having heat issues. And some studies suggest that terpene levels increase with increased dark periods.

It does get a little tricky in calculating the actually PPFD without a Quantum PAR meter. However for most hobby/recreational growers aka not commercial the cost is around $150 for a basic unit is a luxury. I bought the same one for $39 shipping included off eBay that wasn't working correctly and needed a hard reset. Knowing how to do this, can sometimes pay off. Here's mine measuring the double mini's together at 16inches. The reading drops lower the farther from the center directly below the light to this around the outsides of my 2x2.5 tent
Owning one really allow a grower to fine tune the setup.

A pause for a little moment special for all of us at one point or another in our lives. I just dry trimmed my first ever harvested bud. The additional fact it was from a Hempy Cup makes it even that more special here.

So everyone hum the tune from the Beatles to the following words. Happiness is a sticky scissors :rofl:

Rey Clone #1 Dry Trim

Not much, but it's really sticky and smells sooooo nice. Very sweet and citrus/pineapple. If it smokes well it will be worth it. Top shelf 8th's typically go for $60 or more at the local dispensaries. :yummy:

I'll be posting more results of my Rey harvest as they happen. That will be over on my 1st grow journal.

Thanks to everyone here who has helped make this journey awesome.:Namaste:

WooHoo! Your first harvest! :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

It will forever after taste better than anything else you’ve tasted. Lol! Congratulations BT. Life is never the same. :bravo:

My first harvest was small and fluffy cfl buds but still the best i ever had cuz i grew it. Congrats BTz!
My new hempy home is almost complete and ready for my 3 new little babies to move in. For this run Im doing LSD from Barneys Farms, Chemdawg from HSO and Girl Scout Cookies from Feminised Seed Co all in 3.5G perlite hempies. I finally have space and ventilation enough to run my dwarf star and 400w hid together. I love led and hid together! Ill post some pics when its up and running.
Keep it green...
Edit: took some pics of my last harvest. Amphetamine and Cash Crop both autos in 1L perlite w/coco caps hempys. Nice chunky buds and they smell grrreat!
Last run with my old set-up and, after having to downsize from a 4x2 tent to a 2x2, it'll be nice to be able to grow big girls again. I also had a red poison auto but took no pics. It was next to nothing. I had it in a 1G jug but the roots never gained much mass so the end product was a stalk of whispy buds. They smell delicious, are sticky as all heck and packs a punch but seriously only a few grams. Sad face. Anyway...

Ha! Quoting myself!

Well, the thing is, I wanted to add that, beyond an average canopy PPFD of about 1000, supplemental CO2 would be required to maximize the diminishing benefit of adding energy to lighting.

In other words, ya really gotta like spending money!
:passitleft:

I think at some point you have to say to yourself "I have all I need to grow some excellent quality flowers" and quit trying to keep up with the Joneses.

Add into the equation the amount of marketing from the Hydro Store Community and the pressure is on. I feel you are correct about the keeping up with the Joneses. @FelipeBlu and I were both raised to shun that concept and strike out in our own direction with skeptical eye towards those who would wish to separate us from our hard earned monies. If you notice we both draw the line at large capital equipment cost. We also try to avoid excessive electrical bills resulting from the need to cool because of heat generated from certain inefficient lighting choices. Excessive heat is inefficient electricity at the very least. You'll may also find the hobby growing community is easily swayed to add more nutrients that are actually required to grow really decent smoke by labels on fancy expensive bottles that have really cool stoner pictures. The marketing also seems to like to separate things into part A and B and charge more for both than just buying a single bottle that has both.

The concept of evaluating CBA (cost benefit analysis) and evaluating the point where FelipeBlue has referred to as diminishing returns is very important. Your quote above really has a lot of value. I never started growing to try and impress any one but myself. Just my not so humble opinion, for all it's worth. I think you are on the right path.

This is all great stuff. I started with a 4x4, 1000watt hps, tons of fans, bought an air conditioner, then I added some mars300s when nobody was doing cobs yet, clone bucket. what I got out of that was months of a huge electricity bill and I fried my gfi circuit. I was trying to keep up with my fellow growers and it wasn't the best fit for me.

Now I use about 650 watts. Maxibloom onIy. I have to run one a/c in the living room all summer and let my passive intake do its thing. The girls get warm still, but I turn different sets of lights off periodically throughout hotter days.
My stuff doesn't get very dense due to lighting but it is potent, tasty, and I grow it on the cheap. Apartment friendly...

Sorry I went on and on, dang blue dream kief.
