Hempy Headquarters

So I take the wet to dry ratio is about 4-1 approximately. Not going to hold anyone to that number. I've been wondering about that for quite a while.

I dry low and slo, so my weight going into the bags is just buds, no stem. I get 25% from low and slo, and that’s been fairly consistent for me.

Hang drying it runs very close to 20% the weight of branches hanging. That’s been consistent too, over the three years I’ve been growing.

Can’t wait to see these gardens. We have so much to share. :slide:

I was planning on the top to bottom, as I had read about your choice with the two different pitchers. So you drill after you apply the tape, seems the threads in the tape would get tangled in the drill. I was planning on drilling before for that reason.

I'm really happy with these cups. They are about double the height of the little blue ones I'm using now. I figure the ones I transplant won't have very far to hit bottom and start feeding again in their new home.

I found these 32oz cups at a local discount grocery store named Smart & Final. $.49 each such a deal.
I wrapped them vertically with a double layer of Duct Tape to block out some light. In retrospect the lack of was the cause of Algae in in my last Hempy Cups. Drilled hole at roughly 1.5inches from bottom of cup. With the course perlite in the bottom the reservoir holds 150ml. I have been having to feed my smaller Cups daily because they only hold 75ml in the bottom. Hoping to stretch it out just a bit at least initially. When I start running out of reservoir on a daily basis, I think it will be time to upgrade to my larger 1.5gallon waste paper baskets. Anticipating that to be 2-3 weeks from now.

Wow! they grow up so quickly. My little seedings Super Lemon Haze and Golden Leaf showed their Tap Roots yesterday, so into fresh new Hempy Cups this AM. Rinsed the perlite and mixed in the vermiculite and away we go.

First up Super Lemon Haze Girls Sheila and Sara all dressed in pink.
Next up my special Golden Leaf Girls Goldie and Gilda in tribute to Rowan and Martins Laugh In
Saving the Purple Cups for the Gorilla Grape seeds. They sunk to the bottom this morning so into the vacancy left by the SkywalkerOB duds. Everyone back into the Clone/Seedling Dome with the T5 double light on 24/7 at the moment. Will turn it down to 20/4 after the Gorilla Grapes get into their RR's.

Yes, I had actually went by a 7-11 once and they were going to charge me 50cents each for cups that weren't as sturdy. At least I wouldn't have to drink soda to get them. These actually have some thickness to the plastic, only wish I could find some this size that didn't require tape. Oh Well, can't have everything. At least these are reusable.

Doob, where did you find your cups?

I did find them in black at a couple sites, but you have to order at least 25 and then there's shipping. I'm having great success with the Rubbermaid pitchers. The latest Devil's Carnival is going to be incredible when I get back.

My best specimen of this chemovar grew in a pot just slightly larger than this one. :slide:

Good Morning! well at least late morning in California now. I'm in a place with my new grow which is semi unfamiliar. The last time I started in Hempy with the Root Riots was with clones that had popped tonnes of little roots. Even then, after I put them in the Hempy Cups I watered with a dropper directly on the RR's until I saw some above surface growth.

With these new seedlings I'm doing the same thing, dropping about 1-3ml of Clonex Solution/water mix onto the RR's. This is after I put them in their new Hempy cups and watered to waste. Given a previous post @SweetSue made about keeping the RR's wet initially, I figured it couldn't hurt. Don't want those little ones to get dry.

At this point I'm not seeing any above the RR's surface growth, so I'm assuming the little seedlings are putting all their energy into driving that Tap Root and other smaller roots down looking for a better source of moisture. It this a correct assumption? I don't want to over water, and yet I'm pretty sure under watering is even more disastrous.

I have them in my Seedling Tote with the 2foot T5 about 2-3 inches above the propagation dome. There is actually some heat, I would say in the 90's. My plan is remove the dome as soon as the Gorilla Grape seeds sprout and are ready to put in their Hempy Cups.

I got mine at Target Express. It’s like a mini Target, but I didn’t ever find more of them. I had grand visions of having a stack waiting for you when you got here too.
DrDoob, I went by that same Target Express in South Park shortly after your mentioned and also never found any. I'm thinking these 32oz cups I picked up at Smart & Final are similar, what's your take. They were certainly cheap enough at $.49cents.

Since we are on the subject of stores not having more of the same, it reminds me that I should perhaps go by the Dollar store I picked up the waste paper baskets I'm using before perhaps they don't have anymore. I have meant to do that, and it's really quite ridiculous as it's less than a mile from my house.

My 5 current hemp youngins I started watering with 1/4 strength nutes
I'd pour maybe a 1/2 cup around the RR and perlite area in the solo cup

The last time I didn't do nutes and they where sooooo slow, so I switched to starting in soil.

So this time with the 1/4 nutes they did much much better

If I understand you are doing this daily until you see some growth that would indicate it has reached the reservoir? At this point I'm using the recommended dosage for the Clonex Solution for clones and seedlings. My plan is to start with 1/4 strength DynaGro Nutes at the point I feel the reservoir has been reached, and move to 1/2 after a few watering to waste. Thinking about the time I see a second node it should be Ok to go to full strength.

In my first grow I started with soil and didn't start using nutes for over a month and half. It really was a slow go, and showed some deficiencies. When I did the the clones I started with the Clonex Solution and everything went so much faster.

Are u in solo cups now

Oh ya the plastic solo cups, ya may add a bit of nutes in a week if they don't show any growth

I like Chris’ advice - particularly the part about adding the feed water around the outside of the RR instead of keeping the peat wet near the young stem.

I have downloaded the Clonex label, so will send you comparison nutrient profiles of regular strength Clonex solution vs 1/4 strength DG Grow.

Gentlemen, perlite wicks the water up from the reservoir, so the assumption should be that in a solo cup you have a shallow enough depth that the roots will be getting nutrient-rich water everywhere in the cup except the very top, which stays somewhat dry.

I start with 1/4 nutes and bump up faster than others do, but my nutrients allow me to do so. I'm up to full strength within a week, watering ever other day. I never bother with watering around the seedlings, and I always use nutes.

Oops! You guys are talking about just the RRs. Sorry.... I'm gonna take a couple more hits now. :battingeyelashes:

Actually, you are right on! We are talking about RR's in Hempy Cups and I was hoping you would chime in on this. I had been wanting to know your exact take on the wicking action of Perlite. I was thinking it might be along these lines, just really wanted to confirm. Shortly after I joined the HH here, you mentioned that perlite wicks 8". That's perfect for my cups, just wanted to double check. What I was unsure about was the little tap root being able to get enough to get down to the reservoir. Your answer complete clears that up for me. Thanks, B-)

Typically, when I start seeds I drop them into the soaked RRs and wait until I see any movement at all, then drop into perlite immediately. I have an easier setup though, BRB.....

Soak the RR, drop the seed in there and place it right into the hempy cup with water only in the reservoir. You shouldn't have to add any more water with that dome sealing the humidity in until you have a seedling pop up, then go with 1/4 strength. The RRs have everything the seed needs to start, but as Chris pointed out, a little boost in feed helps tremendously.

Sue, I love the little dome. It sure does save room over the propagation tray I'm using. Very helpful for small starts. I actually know where I can get those for next to nothing or no charge at all. Awesome!

I use clear Solo cups on top of my red Solo cups, works great
Can trim them a bit and they fit right inside the rim
