Hempy Headquarters

I'm sure there is easily 10-15 who use it dabble in Hempy

I say select a Hempy president and sick them on @Teddy Edwards
Oops guess I just did

@SweetSue yer it

Had some leftover building materials from a job I was working today (I'm a plumber on new construction homes)
Anyhow, I ended up with an 8 foot stick of 6" PVC.... Which will definitely become my next 2 hempy pots.
:ganjamon:
I'm thinking about making them 36" deep. What do y'all think?

I would think you probably wouldn’t want it more than about 12” - 14 inches tall. You aren’t going to get much wicking action in a 36” deep pot.
I planned on using a few wicking holes down the 36" that can be plugged up as the roots get deeper. Several different water tables to use throughout the grow.
The whole assembly will also have a petcock style drain at the very bottom so I can always drain out remaining liquid before adding new nutrients.

I think it should all work.... :ganjamon:
Maybe? LoL
I'm gonna give it a go to see what happens.... In the name of science, of course. I'll post a few pics once I get it built.

Science the shit out of it! Lol

That’s a good idea with the wicking homes. That may just work. And then use gravity to flush from the bottom now and then so the reservoir doesn’t get stagnant.

I may end up shortening it a bit just to save on overall nutrient mix to fill that long pipe while the roots are still short. But once they stretch out, I should be able to water/feed just like my current hempy bucket setup. I really just want to see what the root system looks like when I cut it down after harvest, grown in a big long tube like that.
Definitely gonna science the shit out of it!

It will be pretty funny to see a monster ass bush growing out of a tall skinny pot.

As FelipeBlu says Hempy was created on the K.I.S.S. principle. I kept coming up with all sorts of ideas to engineer the hell out of the idea and he kept calming me down. I personally don't have a lot of experience with the wicking action, but I understand perlite will only wick up about 8inches. Seems also that SweetSue has come to a conclusion that she gets the best results from buckets/pitchers that are about 1 foot tall. That's why I went in that direction personally. With a drain hole at two inches and the top level of media at about 1 inch below the top of the bucket that seems to put every thing just about right for my calculations. Keep us posted on your 6" PVC pipe idea. That was my first direction I thought of. After all Free is Free!

I definitely have a deal with over-engineering things. I'm 37 and retired... Only work when a buddy needs help on big jobs. So, I have a tendency to smoke a bunch of herb, while bored, and come up with crazy ideas.
The sad thing is... I know better. LoL
The best looking plants in my barn are the simplest.. Soil/Perlite mix with base nutes. Hmmmm. That is why I love these groups.

Maybe a better use of this freebie would be to make 4 12"-18" pots and 1 big 30"-36" experimental tube to see if it will even work.

Right on Preston. I have a technical engineering background so I'm always trying to improve stuff. I think you would be extremely happy with the 12" pots and I was going to make about six of them myself originally to fit in my tent. It sometimes takes everything I have to back it down and dial it back to keep it simple. That sativa will give you extra engineering capabilities and there's always the desire to increase yield. :ganjamon:

I'm a heavy Sativa smoker. LoL Smoking on my last Jack Herer harvest now with 2-Green Crack and 1-Amnesia Haze about to finish...week 6 flowering now. I've come up with a few crazy ideas that work, and a bunch that don't. LoL, never stops me from trying again though...

I’m pretty sure @Tead could tell you what happens with just about every length of 6” pvc pipe hempies. ;)
Hell yeah! The good & the bad... I'm all about it. I like learning from others success & failure much better than failing repeatedly in an attempt something that isn't even possible.
I'm also willing to share my screw-ups with pride so others don't do the same.

I might wait and see if Tead has input, he is all about the 6" PVC perlite pipe ... first I've seen anyone use as a Hempy pot. No doubt he has experimented with various lengths. 36" might need a base bigger than a cap to stabilize such a vertical pot.

Peace
Keith

Oh yeah! LoL I'm a carpenter by trade. I planned on making a nice little stand out of wood to hold it upright.
I'm beyond curious now.... So I'm definitely gonna give it a go after I collect some info

I’m doing hempy too, so that’s at least five of us I think. :p

I know of 6 lurkers alone that I have referred to this and a few other Hempy style 420Magazine threads! Perlite buckets are more popular on two other MJ websites, and I was just hoping to help push this site as a preferred resource. The maturity level @ 420Magazine members seemingly exceeds all other forums, and friendly but honest communications are important to me.

Peace
Keith
