Hempy Headquarters

This is just one reason I ♡ hempy...

Okay, maybe 2..

Just started finishing today with their first water only feeding at 7 1/2 weeks of flower. I expect to chop in 7-10 days.

I'll just leave these here...

First hempy run I'm getting to the finish line on!

This plant is on day 45. Can only see it going to 60ish. Do the smaller pots make 10 days of difference?
In my experience, no. I grew two DDAs; one in a 1 gallon and one in a 20oz, both finished right around 80 days. In my world container size only controls plant size.

@Buck5050 just a general feeling. It's been a quick grower, showed on day 18 and was really vigorous overall. I suppose I could harvest at 60, but I'm in no rush and want a max yield. @Ganjagrowergu I heard other growers mention they had similar experiences with autos flowering quickly and finishing quicker in smaller pots. Just trying to get a timeline together as my space is limited and am planning on using my tent for a perpetual. I wanted to stick with the same pots too.

Well @SweetSue I did learn one thing so far about the drought stress method. It's a fact that this starts senescence at twice the speed as flushing. The leafs and hairs were noticeably farther along than the other 3 that I am flushing. I did give it a dose of PHed water at about 96 hours. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to feed at the 50 degree leaf droop or give it water. I am still kind of confused on the method. As far as oil production by sight the jury's still out.

Here is a shot. Drought stress on left flushing on the right. Both exact clones in same medium and enviroment. Fed exactly the same up until I started the flush.

Leafs on the left one are faded more and even drying up completely.

Beautiful Buck! Strong stems, solid buds.... it’s looking like you have this tube growing down. :high-five:

The drying step in the next-to-last week of flower is still something we’re learning, and thank you for trying it in hempy. In my head I can see how this might be easier to work in soil, vs hempy mediums. I think it’s worth a try with hempy, but if we don’t see appreciable increase in perfumes we may be better with a slow flush.

It’s the thirst that creates the increase in terpenes though, and thirst that causes the plant to ramp up trichome volumes. I’d really like to find we can adapt it to passive hydro.

I’ve not found this to be true, but I pay more attention to trichomes and harvest as soon as they begin to flush to cloudy. That can vary dramatically one chemovar to another.

Thinking back to my small pot grow I seem to recall they all went full term. (That grow was indicas, and I let them go to amber.)

Big perlite test results, didn’t really notice much difference in yield or anything but I harvested and pulled out the root balls on the six I had with only #8 perlite (and an extra 32oz of #2 that the clones rooted in) and one with #2 perlite on top of several inches of #8 perlite (and it had 32oz of coco that the clone rooted in).

The #8 perlite plants didn’t use any of the top half of the pot for roots but the roots that are there do look good and dense.

The mixed plant’s rootball looks a lot better and fuller, the coco spread everywhere.

I have six more soon to harvest with the half #2 and half #8, I’ll report back.

My basic conclusion is: yes the larger perlite works and yes it’s a lot easier to clean and reuse. It just doesn’t retain enough water to utilize the top half of the pot. The mixed plant seemed almost as easy to clean and reuse the perlite. Assuming the other six are similar to the first I’ll probably be using a 50/50 mixture of both from now on.

little quick jungle report

about wk 12 they were pulling from the leaves pretty hard in the push to finish

the frost didn't look too exceptional but the trichomes started amber. just as i was about to drop nutes for the chop we got a late bud swell starting..

full

you can see the new green and some white pistils. it was pretty welcome as the weight wasn't there for the most part, save for a few top buds.

so i let it go and kept feeding. about a wk in everything kinda stalled, no development and they stopped feeding. so i dropped nutes and just ran molasses and a little calmag for background nutes and let it go another wk while watching.

full

the new pistils browned out pretty quick, the new trichomes were super immature, and it looked like i was losing the older ones..

i debated pulling the plug then saw possible bud rot ... it's been hot and humid so rot has been a possibility.

did an immediate strip, sorta panic, to let them all stand for 24hrs. which turned into an unwanted 48hrs when my sister showed up for a day..

full

then did the final chop and wet trim to hang.

full

if i ever run this many plants again i'll probably trim them similar to buck.

i tossed a couple buds i considered to be questionable. looking to be grey or grey/brown. really shoulda got a pic but only thought about it after. it was super late as i was doing this. if i find any others i'll make sure to separate them and get a photo.

the room rh runs between 48 - 54% with the exhaust fan running. touch lower if i run the little 6" fan as well. have only the exhaust fan on right now.

tried a preliminary tester and it was nothing to brag about. have a few others mellowing out in a jar, so i'll keep an open mind for now.

:)

hello vg.
just came over from reading your journal.
I have a couple of hours to myself before dinner time. Trying to run around and catch up with y'all.
