Hempy Headquarters

He's gonna need to double his head room. The 5gals format really has the potential to grow trees. Mine have become top-heavy enough to give me stability challenges.
I am not opposed to chopping heads off. I have a tomato cage I can slap around her. I suspect that she will be fine though, she has little int he way of roots at this time and she has a few feet to play with. Time will tell.

here's my new 2 litre hempy buckets all drilled out and ready for use

it's like the dollar store is ordering exactly what i need lol. beer bottle for size reference. the buckets are just a touch over the 2L mark. i grabbed a dozen as that's all they had. planning a mini sog.

I got behind on things quite a bit after my Christmas harvest. Things are just getting rolling, waiting on a few more to sprout, and possibly planting 4 more of something. Right now I have planted 9 different cultivars (12 if you count the three in the middle).. Really packing them in this time.

Switched up to lava rock and rockwool cubes. The recycled mix I had been using finally broke down enough to warrant it's retirement. Watering/feeding 2x daily. Young ones get 1/2tsp Mega-Crop per gallon, after they show their parts they are getting 1/4 tsp Mega-Crop and 1/2 tsp Maxibloom.

I will bury the rockwool cubes completely after the weaklings and all but one or two Male Purple Afghani x BCBD Purps are culled. Seems I can't stop myself from making seeds...if only I had the guts to try out my colloidal silver.

nice. i grew passive hydro in hydroton yrs ago. its how i did veg before putting them in active hydro. never dawned on me to grow it out the entire way.

will keep you apprised of developments headquarters.

that is all . (salutes)

I still haven't figured out a way to stealthily bring a giant bag of perlite into my apartment without alerting the nosey drunk lady that always watches out her window. This stuff came .5 cubic foot per bag for 4 bucks a bag. Just carried them in with groceries.

That works. Lol!

Well done soldier. (returns a snappy salute)

You look like you’re having fun. Good. Lol! That’s what we’re here for. :hugs:

Can you share a better pic of the rack setup you have for drainage.

I'd not looked all that closely to it until Stan mentioned it Buck, but I'm impressed with the easy fabrication. Well done! :high-five: You gave more courage than I, crowding them in like you do. Yep, impressed.

My 27"x27" tent is a most comfortable fit for two plants, max, and one if they're monsters like the Zam x Pan were, and like this Carn turned into. She'd have appreciated all of the available real estate, and when I drop her daughter in behind her in a matching pot she will be the only resident as she flowers.

Still three weeks, at least, to go. :slide:

Some wire shelving on red bricks over a boot tray. Most can be found on the cheap and at wally world.

Yeah, looks crowded, but certainly possible. What’s your RH in the nether regions?
:yummy:
Super High when lights are out like 90+. When lights kick on and exhaust system is in effect I have it at 50-60. In another week or so I will do some serious defoliation to improve the airflow. I do have a dehumidifier on hand for mid to late flower.

@SweetSue They are very crowded but I still have to pull out all the males from this test seed run. The final count will be 4-6 plants in this set up. Right now there is 9 in there. I will cull in a week and give the ladies the whole dance floor. Trellis will get put in after first leaf strip

Reducing the number of plants will certainly help with the humidity. Is there a reason that you can’t run the exhaust during lights out? Does it get too cool?

Hi Hempyites!
Here’s an update on the Blumat experiment. No new photo at the moment - it’s raining again - but the Blumat reservoir has now dropped to the second blue line on the vase.

Photo from yesterday

I was ready to pour out some of the hempy reservoir, to measure the pH and TDS there, but there is nothing in the reservoir. The wick is apparently pulling water directly off of the perlite, and none is accumulating.

So at least I know the roots are not perpetually sitting in water. The perlite is moist, as it is when it wicks up from the reservoir.

I had initially forgotten this, but the Blumat pamphlet indicates a maximum of
75 ml/day will go through each Blumat. So depending on age/water usage, more will likely be required to keep the plant sufficiently moist.

And, we still don’t know how much of the nutrients actually made it into the perlite..

That should work. If I were you I'd be mighty tempted to avoid the res in the bottom and just go with a normal draining pot. If the flow from the stone can maintain a moist medium thru the mix, seems like things might work great. If the perl alone dries too fast, thicken it up with some verm so it retains moisture longer.

Good thoughts @Tead ! :high-five:

But I really want to keep growing with hempy - this is just supposed to be a temporary solution..

Hey now! This would totally work with Osmocote Plus! No worries about transmitting nutrients through the clay cone, or clogging it with precipitated salts.

So - 100% perlite, any pot that drains (without reservoir), O+, and Blumats.
Well, it ain’t exactly hempy, but it might get me through this period of frequent week-long trips out of town.

Incidentally, the pH in the Blumat reservoir was 5.8 this morning (up from the initial 5.6 four days ago).

I like it! Like I said, you may want to thicken up the mix.

I usually don’t like using vermiculite, but I understand your suggestion, and will likely seriously consider it, as we can get 90F+ days here, even in March.

Noted. We'll issue you a pass for this one occasion, but don't let it happen again.
