I thought it was fast too, but they say some people get fitted in a couple weeks in the case of arms. They want people to make the transition ASAP before they get accustom to doing things without a limb. I guess that makes sense, there's only one transition in habits and routines. Most leg amputees have a temp made in the first 3 months. It gets adjusted over about a year as I learn and my swelling decreases, muscle builds etc. I'm on the quick side for a leg, but that's fine. I've dealt with pain most of my life. What's a little more now? I'm going flippin crazy here. I need to get up.
Incisions are healed, but still tender. They really want me up and active ASAP. I'm relatively young and strong, and heal quickly. Staying down will only make the therapy harder later. Because I'm double amp and fused spine I haven't done much but waste away for 7 weeks now, waiting for the spine really. I'm having castings done for temporary limbs. They'll want to check range of motion (degrees of flex) in everything, check strength in all limbs, ask about numbness, tingles etc. They'll query me on my mental state and suggest I talk to their shrink. Probably poke me with stuff and ask what I feel. Then send me home with pamphlets and paperwork and instructions on daily therapy exercises. Then I'll have an in home therapist at least once per week, and more appointments than I care to think about.
Good deal on the inside work. And you can day dream all you want.
EDIT: Sorry that took so long to reply Grizz. Morning business and all takes a lot more planning and work than before.
