Heavenly Hybrid 2nd Grow: Blackberry Kush, Coco Grow, LED450

I actually soaked my last bricks in a bucket of water and they unpacked themselves in about 20 min.
:thumb:

Not sure if the big 10lb brick will do the same, but these 1.6lb bricks I grabbed, swell right up when dropped in a bucket of water.

It was still a little chunky, so i fluffed it up a bit while filling the pot.

I was surprised at how easy it was.
I remember when you did your last round, so much easer! I’ve been thinking of a way to try to do your tote rinse idea, I just don’t have an extra bin to drill holes in yet. It looked so much easier. I just don’t need the whole 10 lbs, but it’s so much cheaper to buy it that way!

Not much activity today (whew!)
Although I did make a bit of a mistake, I had given up on that second banana kush seed I had planted. Well, I shouldn’t have! I opened the pellet and the seed had sprouted a tail (damn!) so I quickly hydrated a new pellet and re-planted it. Hopefully it will survive my mishap!

Sneaky B is still drying in her box, and getting dry to the touch on the outside. The rh is down to 47% in the box. Is there anything I should be doing to help it? Or just let it keep dropping until it goes in a jar? Are there any little tests I can do to know it’s ready to come off the stems and into jars? The only thing I know is to take off a small bud and if it snaps off, it’s ready and if it stays connected with a string, it’s not ready. I appreciate any tips anyone might have. I’m really trying to improve my drying before all these autos come down. :)

That sounds like a good method. Some folks use the stem snap test. If it bends it's too wet. If it snaps clean through it's too dry. If it bends and then cracks internally it's just right!

Good luck with the BK seed :).
Thank you Shed. :)
Would that be for the smaller stem where the bud attaches or should I bend the bigger main stem? Just want to be sure I do it right. :thanks:

That kind of depends on where your buds are. I tend to bend them near where the buds are, and which stems those are on depends on plant. My Sour G had hardly any big stems.
Sorry, I think I need pic help

Should I bend at the red or the blue? Does it even matter? Thanks again for the help Shed.

Haha. - so funny how everyone has variations in the details of how we do things. I go from hang drying into paper bags and I do that when branches like the yellow arrow is pointing to snap the way Shed described.

I keep a hygrometer in one of the paper bags. I start with them closed and pegged shut to get a read on the RH and if it’s higher than 70 the bags stay open until they get below, then it’s closed bags until the low 60s when I hat them. This only works when my ambient RH is low 60s or below of course.

But if you don’t do the paper bag step - then SHed and Joe’s take on which branch is probably closer. Besides, I’d definitely rather be rehydrating buds than losing it to mould. Part of the reason I’ve taken to the paper bag method is so I can do the first stage a bit more quickly - to minimise mold risk.
Oof! I’m chatty this morning :D

Good info Amy I will be curing drying that way as you described we’ll try to anyways .

I like to wash shake off best before hanging

My rh is usually around 40% this time year maybe higher now that spring is right around corner woot woot . Sorry really happy . Sunshine baby!

Anyways then I hang for min two days before I do my first branch test .

Once I feel the stems are dry enough to my like bend snap test . Then I’ll trim buds from there and into brown paper bags then I can put inside a brown box cardboard box and shake them once or twice a day after 3-4 days I’ll wipp start testing them but air tight enclosure with hydrometer and allow a few hrs min for rh to build up and try to get close to 60% before I start my burp daily and seal for week to two then I into vac seal bags at different grams ratios then I have long term storage or short !

This is what I am aiming for and of course some buds will go to fridge slow and low method ✊

I try to get mine to hang a week. But my RH is higher than yours. Still, P dries his in a closed cardboard box to slow it down.
I'll dry in the box until they are a bit crispy on the outside. Then I move to a large jar with a hygrometer for a few hours to get an estimate of where they're at. If RH is still a bit high, I will pile them in a shoebox (burp) for a few hours each day, to dry them a bit more. until the RH is where I want it in the jars when I seal em up.

Nice :high-five: that sounds pretty close to what I had planned, and now I’ll add the shoebox part too. I saw someone does curing in a turkey bag too? So many different options. I already have a bunch of jars and got some more hygrometers on the way. It’s already going longer than the last few times, so that’s cool!!

Got Sneaky B into jars to see where she’s at with humidity. I’m still wondering if these things are seeds.

Seems like there’s a lot of them.
More than anything I’m worried that there’s some pollination that’s happening and I just haven’t found the culprit. I broke one apart and it just went to pieces. I don’t really know what a seed would look like other than the ones I’ve bought. What do you guys think?

They look like it can you take tweezers and pluck one out carefully?
Yeah, I did and I squished it and it smooshed into pieces. Would it be a hard seed inside already? Sorry if I’m being annoying about this. Mr.H got me all worried again saying how much they looked like seeds.

So Sneaky B is into jars and humidity is at 66% this morning. I did burp and shake and the buds are looking good to me! (Except this little seed worry of course). After taking off the stems, the dried weight came in at 36g. Such an improvement over the last few, lol not that, that was hard to do! :laughtwo:
Took a few more trich pics of JH#2

Now that the dry box is available, I may take her down today or tomorrow?

I’m also thinking the bubblegum #2 might be ready pretty quickly.

It’s so exciting to see these girls getting close and I feel so much less apprehensive about drying, now that I’m dialing in the process. Thanks everyone for the help through this. I can’t tell you how much it means to me. As you can tell, I can be a bit of a head case sometimes! :laughtwo:
