Heavenly Hybrid 2nd Grow: Blackberry Kush, Coco Grow, LED450

You have the vipar600
I have 2x of the vipar450 and I have it hanging 14” above my criticals canopy now. I will push it to 12” above come mid/late flower for that final boost!

EDIT: sorry stoned and forgot what I was getting at.... I would ignore their height chart. I started off at their “veg” limit and lowered from there. These lights although state 600W they are only a true 260W light which you can push closer to the plants!!
Oh beautiful! Thank you Dutchie!! I just got the 600, so I have that and a 450 in the 4x4 tent. I’ve got them at different heights right now since the one is stronger. I’ll watch for stress and adjust as needed. It all seems so simple in theory, then reality strikes! :D

Hi Heavenly.
I just caught up with your journal. You certainly have handled the twists and turns of growing gracefully.
I look forward to seeing your quad take further shape.

:circle-of-love: Thanks VG! It’s only because of the wonderful support of the amazing 420 community! On the other side of the computer was some growers angst and a few bug outs!
Happy to have you pop in. :welcome:

Update!
In preparation for the upcoming flip day, I added two ties to the baby BBK (Blackberry Kush #2), just to get some more light to the lowers really. I also did my biggest defol yet to Queen BBK (Blackberry Kush #1). They are both looking happy as clams, which makes me a happy clam too! :)
Before defol:

Feeling okay-ish on this lst “no training” method. Not really sure if I’m doing it right, but giving it a try nonetheless.

And in other news - the new tent is getting a little more stable with temps and humidity. I’ve been doing a lot of experimenting i.e. veg only/bloom lights on, lights higher, lights lower, heater in/out, humidifier in/out, but we’re getting closer to target levels. I’ve been looking for a fan that I know is somewhere in my house, but still lost. I had to bring in a bigger oscillating fan than I’d like, but it was necessary, so its in! It is surprisingly helping balance the heat and humidity too. :thumb:
The problem they are dealing with now is some overwatering droops. The fan will help with that too, but for now they are sad bebes. I also switched to 24/0 schedule, but I’m fairly sure it’s due to too wet of coco. I’ll let the coco really dry out before their next watering and hopefully they’ll perk back up. I was considering topping because 3/4 were doing so nicely, but after all they’ve just gone through, maybe it’s not such a good idea?

The BGs are handling it better than JHs, but JH#2 was already stalling in growth from the transplant. Super droop, sad puppy.

That’s all for now in my little grow gardens. Happy gardening! :ciao:

Well, the more research I do, the more I believe my 4 autos have transplant shock. I also learned that I should’ve transplanted them when they were kind of dry? I don’t know. Next time I’ll just be sure to start them in the right sized pot in the first place... anyhow, I’ve been waiting for them to dry out more, and last night I gave them some bioweed (seaweed) to help give them a boost in getting over whatever I’ve done to them. Lol, maybe I should just stick to photos. Not having the best luck with autos so far. There’s some new growth coming in, but it’s slow. We’re in a watch and wait mode I guess! Good luck little autos, hope you survive me!! :goodluck::laugh:

I shocked two of four of mine too. Mine were doing fine until I decided I didn't like 2 in FFOF and 2 in Promix HP. Took the HP ones out and went into FFOF. They never really took off and one kinda has some funky buds.
They say photos are the easiest because you have time for corrections before flower. Autos you have to be on top of all the time as a mistake could be the diff between a high yield and a low yield. Or worse, no yield at all.
However, I hear autos throw out some serious THC levels these days compared to days of old. So, you gotta keep plugging away at the autos and understand them. Like everything in life, we learn from our mistakes.

I agree!
I jacked up quite a few autos before I (kinda) figured them out. Now, I can at least get them to finish. They're a bunch of fun though...IMHO.

I love a little army of autos.

Watch for some of the other growers who have grown them big-ass autos. Those are the genetics to try.
:thumb:

I've had luck with Barney's autos, as well as Dinafem autos. But.... I've seen some others around here who have grown autos that dwarf my photo girls. LoL

Thanks @MrSauga and @Preston9mm I have succeeded in that I haven’t killed anything yet! :Namaste: (Knock on wood) and I am learning, that’s for sure! Good to know I’m not the only one who has had a struggle or two. I started reading Stupidface journals a bit, any recommendations from anyone for a good auto journal?

Got some auto tips for ya but my auto journal was hydro so it was a bit different to what you're doing here. My first bit of advice would be to not transplant at all. If you do want to grow them in smaller pots first then biodegradable pots are great as you just plant the entire pot into the next larger pot. Transplanting is probably the main reason people stunt autos. Watering them is a little tricky when starting them in their final pot if it's a large one but in my opinon safer than transplanting and risking early shock. I always start them on pretty much full lighting as well to give them an early boost. For example if I was growing under a 600w HPS then I'd germinate them under my lower powered light and keep them under it until they are an upright strong looking seedling so maybe 2 or 3 days then it's straight under the big light. I keep it high at first then lower it daily. The auto will probably be just over a week old by this point. They need a really good start to get big but there are some easy to grow massive auto strains but they tend to take 100+ days to reach maturity :)

Not really HH. I never really went looking. I just listened to others through miscellaneous discussions and kinda used the photos as experience to help with the autos I'm doing now.

Thanks Professor, these 4 I have now, I’ll chalk up to learning - trial by combat. Those are some great tips :thanks:
I have an old thread saved for topping autos. Maybe I’ll dig around in there and see if I can find a good thread in the signatures. Maybe Van Stank? I’ll have a good look around. :)

Root care is also essential for a good start. You need to get the root mass as big as possible quickly. Adding extra perlite, avoiding over watering and allowing pots to dry properly allows extra air to get to the roots allowing for healthier growth. Smart pots and air pots are great for autos. Hope this helps as well HH :)

Very helpful! Thank you :Namaste: I’ve at least got the perlite and fabric pots part right. I’ll let them dry out well from here on out, but I’m not feeling very confident about how these ones will finish. Luckily I have 10 more seeds to figure it out, if I can’t do it then, I’ll just stick to photos for a while! :D

The hardest part of starting autos is the size of the pot and the care it takes not to over water. Big pot yes, but water like they're in a little one: down the center where the tap root is and then in a circle about 2" out from there. Every time you water you draw the circle a bit wider. I actually draw a line in the soil to create an indentation that keeps the water from spreading out on the surface.

Good info, thanks Shed :thumb:
My first grow, I didn’t transplant at all and those were in 5 gal fabric pots. I’m sure there was an issue here and there, that an auto might not forgive. But at least I have some experience with that in my pocket.

It’s snowing here and it was not a great time to start a tent in the garage... I bought a Mars Hydro tent and it has a much thicker material. I think it’s really helping, the temp is good but humidity is a little low 42-44%, and if I open the tent, whooo it drops fast, so I’m staying out. They need to really dry out anyway, so I’m on restriction. I’ll stay in the house with my good tent and my only-stunted-a-little auto.

Weighed in the surprise autos today. When I put them in their glass container, ( ? 4-5 days ago?) the humidity was still a bit high. I put my boveda 62% in there, left the lid ajar and put it into a dark drawer. RH has been holding steady between 59-63, so I think I did all right this time around. I started closing the container as a full curing on Feb 7.

And my two stunted autos gave me a whopping 7g. Hooray? :hmmmm:

Once I get the jars down to the mid 60s I try to burp for a week to two before I seal them for the cure. 20 minutes 2x a day for a week, 10 minutes 2x a day for a week, sealed and labeled with a B62 and a hygrometer.
Oops, maybe I wasn’t clear. I’m still burping a couple times per day. I just meant I wasn’t leaving the lid ajar anymore.
