Heavenly Hybrid’s Hideout: Jump In Anytime

Your garden is looking great HH, it's sweet that your auto watering system works so well.
Thanks Stunger, good to see ya and I’m looking forward to watching your summer grow! It’s so nice to have that to follow while I’m in the cold. 🥶
Binder clips > grommets. :thumb:
Lol, old rivalries die hard! I noticed those too, it’s been a looong time since I used those bad boys.
I like your thumb ring , now that's old school and so am I :green_heart: 4 freckling pages behind damn ! SO Happy Anniversary hope it was FUN ! lad you got the prob. figured out and was a easy fix! And Auto watering seems to bee the up and coming in thing ! Nice Quads you have it going ON !
Haha, thanks SB! I’m so relieved it was about as simple a fix I could’ve asked for. 😀 I guess I’m considered old school now too, funny enough I bought it off Amazon, measured for my ring finger and everything. When it arrived, it was huge! Thumb is the only one it’ll fit on, but I don’t mind. It was only 10 bucks so not even worth sending it back. C’est la vie. Takes me back to my youth, all that 80’s-90’s stuff seems to be coming back on trend again. Finally I’ll be ahead of the times!

I subconsciously started topping on the day I see the first pistil ..and now it kind of just stuck. Even if it seems a bit late on some strains, it seems to delay them going into full flower for a bit and I feel like I got a better stretch.
That's a pretty dang interesting theory. I wonder if any others do the same? Going to give that a go if I can screw up the courage.
Heavenly Hybrid was my inspiration to start training/growing like I do
Oh wow, so that means I have HH to thank too because I started copying Carcass. Who started copying me with SIPs, which are an evolution of HH's AutoPots! What a beautifully tangled web we weave, when first we practise to grow weed.

IMHO that Recharge product is a home run in a bag. It is designed to address multiple deficiencies and it really is effective stuff. I created my own copy - like the Soviets used to do with all the good US tech that came out, then the Chinese did too. lol. It's not just microbes but includes many important fertilizers/plant health boosters released by the microbes to address defs. I even copied the blue clay they add, which has a high cation-exchange capacity, conditioning your soil on a molecular level. Such clays can even isolate metals and toxins from soil/fertilizers, making them plant-unavailable. I'm not associated with the brand or anything, just infatuated with the science.

bon chance!

Hi everyone! It’s a drumroll kinda day :tommy: because I got the auto watering system up and running! Hooray!! Couldn’t come any sooner honestly, because I feel a poop-out on energy coming on, and that’s one less thing on the mental load for me.

It only took about half an hour since everything was already cleaned up and mostly in place. I connected the tubing and filled the reservoir, boom, boom (Shed knows that one, I bet).

Only one snafu along the way
Let’s see if you can spot it?
IMG_4278.jpeg

It’s a toughie, can you see it?
What about now?
IMG_4279.jpeg

Lol, it’s a tiny geyser. I didn’t even notice it until I was taking the pics. I should’ve got one from the side so you could see how high it was shooting. Luckily it was from a small crack in the 4 way connection piece. That is one drawback in this system is those plastic pieces break too easily imo. They sent lots of pieces so you can configure it different ways. So I switched them out and, boom, boom.
IMG_4280.jpeg

It’s not very tidy, but it’ll do the job. I would’ve made it more tidy, but a) I’m afraid I’ll cut my hose pieces too short and no going back b) it’s kinda hard to be working under the canopy on these things, for me. Tough on my neck.🧓

Here’s a map of watering tubes. Red shows the main feeding line.
IMG_4281.jpeg

After all that, we open the valves - there are two, one at the base of the reservoir and one at the top of the main feeding line, (you can see the little red knob there in the pic.) Let there be water!
IMG_4283.jpeg
This little caddy fills with water. Once the little black cylinder floaters float, it shuts off the water supply.
An exaggerated lift, but that’s the shut off signal.
IMG_4285.jpeg

The pot sits inside the caddy and the water soaks up from there for happy ladies.

IMG_4286.jpeg

The question now is when to flip? I’m thinking I’ll give them a couple of days for any adjustment they might need and then 🙃

In the 2x4, Wizard is still growing (yay)
IMG_4287.jpeg

I used some ties to open her up a bit more
IMG_4288.jpeg

And then I found a little stow away.
IMG_4289.jpeg

Lol, she must’ve been a little fim from node 1. But since I put her into flower when I did that, I’ll happily take any extra bits she decides to give me.

That’s it for now here. Thanks for stopping in and keeping me company. 💗 I’ll be putting my feet up now that I only have a couple plants to water 😴🌴

Nice that you got that done and spotted the geyser!

Looking forward! :Rasta:

That sounds perfect!

I've had some experience with plastic fittings- I found that you don't want to have any "sideways" stress on the fitting, or it will eventually crack...
In your photo, the yellow line is stressing the fitting, and it will likely crack again- putting a "loop" in the tubing between that fitting and the pot will keep stress cracks from happening...

I was an RV tech for 30 years, and when the manufacturers first started using plastic tubing (late 80's) instead of copper, they'd try and use as little tubing as possible(cheap bastards)- this meant they'd do short "curves" between the fittings, and 100% of the stressed fittings would crack about 6 months in..longer, more gradual curves, or a loop in the tubing would alleviate the problem.

I probably replaced about 500 cracked fittings and the tubing that made them crack..
luckily, for the customers, they cracked in a relatively short time, so they were still under warranty...

Thank you to GDB, Stone and Trala! :thanks: (Haha, they changed the flower bouquet to a leaf!)

Thanks Carcass. I guess I’ll get back in there and do a proper job… 😕 lol. I think I will wait until I get some back up pieces on hand. The reason that 4-sider got a crack was from me taking the tubing off, it’s a real bugger. I broke two others taking it off when I unhooked the system last grow. I found the manufacturer’s site and prices are pretty reasonable (shipping too), I may just stock up a bit. If I break it taking it apart now, it’ll be trouble.😬 Thanks again Carcass!

Ooh ooh that tent is going to be stuffed to the gills with flowers soon, like the old days! And nice job getting the auto water thing sorted before the gas tank ran dry.
:welldone:

I find that a hair dryer on the fittings makes them a lot easier to undo if you need to (assuming they're barb fittings). Warming the tubing makes it much more flexible.

Ah ha i got u in my e-mail now not miss e , on the fitting if you not ordered i would get some quality automotive fittings for air line , they are made to with stand heat and stress pretty well . I have been a mechanic all my life so i know a little about crap LOL Garden Looking Good HH glad you got the easy watering system going for you , can relate to the Neck pain !! Good day :green_heart: :passitleft: PS> also silicone tubing is easier to work with But cost more ..

Thanks Carcass. I guess I’ll get back in there and do a proper job…
Yeah, I went back and re-read my post from yesterday-
I sounded like kind of a dick...
I meant to just warn you of the possibility that the fittings could crack from side stress, but I came off sounding like I was saying you did it all wrong, and it's destined to fail...

That definitely wasn't how I meant it- you did an excellent job setting up the watering system, and there's no real reason to change anything- I didn't know that the barb fitting cracked from you trying to "unplug" the water line- that's going to happen no matter what you do- little plastic barb fittings aren't exactly the most versatile fittings around, and they're liable to crack any time a water line is removed...

Shed's hair dryer idea is a very good one- warming the tubing up will make it much easier to work with.
That being said, dipping the end of the tubing in hot water is another way to simplify installation, and the hair dryer trick will work great for removal of the lines- (since it'd be a bit difficult to dip the whole assembly in hot water... :) )
I'm very sorry that it sounded like I was dissing you,HH- because
that's sure not what I was trying to do.:Namaste:

Omg, shut yer mouth talkin about my friend like that!! You could never, Carcass! I thought you were keeping me on point on something I don’t know diddly about and was being a bit lazy on. I appreciate the knowledge you shared with me and I do want to get it set up right. Sometimes we need each other to keep each other in check. Well, I do anyways and I was slacking, so I’m glad you told me. 💗

Thank you, a good one to know Shed, I’m pretty sure I’ve got one of those on hand!

Thanks for the tip sb, that’s one thing I’ve been disappointed about this package. It’d be nice to have something more sturdy and HH-proof. :D

Your 4 plants that are close for flipping, look so ready, prepared and orderly HH!
I really could learn from such an example because I always tend to go greedy and then I struggle with dealing with too much growth.

So we're cool?
We are forever cool Carcass 💗 I really never thought anything sideways about it and I’m really sorry I made you feel that way with my response. My lazy-o-meter didn’t want to do the work, but my desire to not cause problems in the system overrules the L-O-M. Please never hold back your wisdom!
I could've said it better, though...
Nah, you’re 100% just right, my friend. :passitleft:

Right you are Stunger! I looked at them this morning and GG4 in particular is worrying me with how big she’s getting. Time for 🙂🙃 flip!
I love your balcony o buds! I think you do great, never greedy. You gotta make it count so it lasts you through to the next summer. That’s important!
