I'm planning to let mine grow to my neck and top so I can maintain it possibly without a ladder. For me there would be no firm rule on when to top or even a necessary thing to do. Maybe if in a pot and one doesn't want it to get too big or some other reason. Do you plan on a pot or in the ground?

The outdoor plants will be in 7 gallon cloth pots.

I top above the 8th or 9th node outside, but that's mostly because I move them twice a day!

I'd top higher if I didn't schlep them, but you want them topped early enough for all the lower growth to catch up before they show pistils, which is mid July here. Felonious will know when it is up by you.

We can't let the plants get taller than about 7 feet because then they're viewable by the neighbours. Felonious said that he always tops the outside plants, too as he wants more colas. I just didn't know if you would top at the same node for outside.

*** WEEKLY UPDATE ***

Good afternoon.

The biggest news this week is that I transplanted the Carnival to a 1-gallon pot yesterday. I also added MegaCrop to the water for the BDs and the Carn and the following chart will show you all the details. After that will be the photos, probably in 2 posts.

That's all folks. Thanks for following along.

The Big Devils are going outside as is the Carnival so no training will be required, other than topping (as far as I know).

I've also told Felonious that he can care for the outdoor plants the easiest way for him, i.e. if he wants to use a nute other than MC, he can. The outdoor plants will be updated in this journal but mostly just with photos.

I haven't started the photos I'll be growing inside yet since we still have plants in all of the tents. I've been after Felonious to harvest his as they've been in flower for 82 days but so far, they're all still in there. I was hoping to use his tent for the GSC grow since it will be empty first (I hope).

It's going to be a learned thing I think. Shed's idea sounds applicable. Sounds like felonious has a handle on it.

Thanks HG, but I wouldn't try LST on a DDA if only because so many of them end up runty. It's probably 90% freaks and 10% normal plants with DDAs. Only grow DDA because you love the smoke, not because you like the harvest or training opportunities. Other autos are much better suited to LST because of their consistency in flowering size.

I had both DDAs out this morning and think that DDA1 definitely looks much healthier than DDA2. If you recall, I had topped and LSTed DDA2 but I only LSTed DDA1 with no topping. Next 2 DDAs will just be LSTed and not topped as I don't think it was worth it. Yes, I know that they haven't been harvested yet but just compare how they look and I think you will agree with me.

The first one looks the way I would expect a healthy cannabis plant to look. The second one almost looks like it's covered with weird black bugs.

So no more topping of DDAs.

My weekly update is a day late as I literally could not stand up yesterday without pain. I was hobbling so bad, I thought it might be easier with crutches (not that I've ever used them). Anyhow, my knee is still sore today but I'm able to stand without too much pain and I'm no longer hobbling; it's more like limping.

*** Weekly Update ***

Photo 1 - Grow Notes.jpg

The Big Devils are getting really big and really need to go outside soon. The temps here this weekend are on the coolish side (low 50s during the day and high 30s at night but starting Tuesday, temps are supposed to be in the low 70s during the day and the low 50s at night. Felonious says he doesn't normally harden them off but since he hasn't move them out himself, I'm wondering if I should harden them off until he's ready to transplant them to 7 gallon pots?

I think the Dark Devils are getting close to being done. I've included some trichome photos for you to see whether you agree with me or not.

Maybe number 2 looks cooked, but it still has plenty clear trichs in that pic so I’d say not yet.

Number 1 def has more business to do. Still covered in white pistil hairs. I’d definitely wait a while on that one.

How do they smell? Has their smell changed at all recently?

Im with shed that 50 seems cold for a cannabis plan overnight. Even low 70s peak temp during the day still seems on the cool side.

Hope the knee keeps improving HG, non-functional bodies are no fun! got plenty of topical? :passitleft:

Yeah, they're both only 70 days old. My previous DDAs went 87. I'm just trying to get all the plants that are nearly done done so that I can start the rest of the summer grow. The grow rack is packed with seedlings currently plus a half-dead cyclamen and half-dead African violet. Felonious thinks they're worth saving.

Once I move the GSCs into the tent, I will start the other autos I'm planning on growing. When the rest of the plants in the big tent are within a week or 2 of being done, I will start the other photo plants.

Thanks, Amy. I'm going through copious amounts of pain cream. I'm using a 2 ounce jar of pain cream every week. I have plans to talk to my doctor next week about possibly getting a cortisone shot in my knee. All elective surgeries are backlogged by about 4-5 years because of Covid so a knee replacement surgery isn't in the cards anytime in the near future. I don't need perfect knees but I would like to be able to walk without a lot of pain in order to get some exercise, which has been sadly lacking lately.

I've never had a cortisone shot and I've never been in the hospital other than the day I was born so neither of these options are my first choice but I would like to be able to be comfortable for the rest of my life rather than in pain.

Good afternoon.

I've started some plants from my summer grow so I thought I should start a new journal for them. Most of them will be grown in @Mars Hydro tents but 4 of them will be grown outside and my husband, Felonious Punk will be taking care of them mostly. Obviously, I will also be keeping an eye on them as well.

Additionally, I'm one of the selected growers for the Girl Scout Cookies Comparative so I will be growing 4 Girl Scout Cookies plants in one of the tents. However, that grow will have its own journal, which I will post a link to in this thread when it's up and running.

The plan is to grow 4 Girl Scout Cookies in one large tent, 4 photoperiod plants in the other large tent and 8 autoflowers in two grows in the smallest tent.

I will be growing the following strains this summer:

Amnesia Auto (1 plant, small tent):

Amnesia Autoflower is avery interesting Sativa dominant hybrid of White Russian crossed with Lowryder #2.

Known for its giggly, euphoric, and uplifting effects, Amnesia is one of the best strains for treating social anxiety and other mood disorders. But be wary, with highly potent 100% Sativa effect it may be a bit too much for some new users as it can produce intense psychotropic effects.

In the Netherlands, it is one of the most sold in coffee shops year after year, and has won too many awards to name them all.

The high production of the elite clone has been determined to become a favourite in Netherlands and because of that prestige it has become a highly sought after strain in Europe.

Amnesia can be grown both indoors and out, expect a fairly stout plant at about 120cm (47 inches) with good yields of very resinous dense buds, with a very fruity taste and odor that have a natural resistance to mold.

Since Amnesia Auto Feminized is crossed with an excellent Ruderalis strain over many generations, it produces sativa characteristics that will flower automatically.

Big Devil XL Fast Version® (2 plants, outside):

Attending to the request of our friends and clients we introduce the feminized and photoperiod-dependent version of our much appreciated Big Devil Auto® (SWS15).

To develop this strain we used our best Big Devil Auto® selected genetic lines. We eliminated the autoflowering characteristic of the original version of Big Devil Auto® by hybridizing these selected genetic lines with an elite clone that features some characteristics that are very similar to the original Big Devil Auto®. The result is a very vigorous plant with an imposing structure and a very high yielder of exceptional dense resin covered buds. This strain develops a strong main stem and long side branches. It truly preserves the taste and aroma of our original Big Devil Auto® which is very sweet, combined with hints of incense and Skunk.

Blueberry Auto (2 plants, small tent):

Blueberry has been a hit among pot enthusiasts ever since its release in the 1970s, and it has a number of major awards under its belt that solidify its status. In 2000, it ranked first in the High Times Cannabis Cup's overall and Indica categories. The following year, it came 2nd and 3rd in the overall and Best Indica groups.

With an Indica-heavy makeup, Blueberry offers deep relaxation just like its Afghani parent. Also a proud offspring of Thai and Purple Thai, it carries a twist of Sativa that gives a soaring mental flight. It's truly one of the best hybrids there is: a melting pot of sought-after exotic landraces. It's no surprise that this big time recreational ganja is also a household name in the medical scene.

It's a resilient plant that thrives in any given set up. It doesn't scream for attention, making it an excellent strain for novice growers. Now, the already promising cultivating journey can get even better. By blending a Lowryder into its genetics, the breeders were able to create an autoflowering version. The plants are much smaller than the original, so they don't need much space, but they still yield heavily.

Growing Blueberry from Autoflower Seeds

Thanks to its versatility, Blueberry is the strain of choice for many aspiring growers. This autoflowering specimen can thrive with minimal supervision, adopting a bushy, typically Indica structure and growing to no more than 2.5 feet tall. Its rapid growth rate means it can go from seedling to harvest in just 8 to 10 weeks.

Its leafage is green and yellow with deep plum hues, and its huge, dense colas have tints of purple, lavender, and green. The curly orange pistils are a fascinating addition to its lovely nugs. Thickly blanketed with rich resin, the buds proudly boast their immense potency.

In a controlled setting, you can get your hands on a massive yield of up to 1.47 ounces of fresh buds per square foot when using a SOG setup. When grown outdoors, the yields are not as big, but you can make up for this with multiple harvests. Each plant will produce 2.5 to 4.2 ounces, and in northern areas, you can start as soon as the last frost disappears and reap until mid-October.

Carnival (1 plant, outside):

The word carnival reminds you of a happy atmosphere all around, of Venice and the thousands of people dressed like centuries ago, or of Rio, Brazil, where millions of people go crazy just for a few days a year. This strain has been designed to bring the carnival into your mind. The entire process of selection and crossing has been made in Spain. This is a cross between a Haze mother and a particular individual mostly sativa as father. Carnival has an extremely high content of thc: the laboratory test on our sample has shown an amazing 23.2%. This is not the only good note, the flowering time is really short for a plant that is 80% sativa.

Kind of seeds: Female
Indoor/Outdoor
80% Sativa 20% Indica
Flowering Time: 9 weeks
Yield: 400-450 gr per sq. mt. indoor, up to 500 gr per plant outdoor
Flavor: fresh citrus haze
Effect: lucid, happy, sensual, wandering
THC: 23%
CBD: low

Dark Devil Auto (4, small tent):

This is the result of the hybridization between one of our most appreciated autoflowering genetics, the incredible Big Devil XL Auto® (SWS28), and an exotic autoflowering strain with purple flowers. The purple characteristic of this strain is inherited from its ancestors from the Chitral region in the Pakistani Hindu Kush, very close to Afghanistan.

The purple genetics contribute for a faster flowering period, bringing new sweet aromas and purple colors to our Big Devil XL Auto®.

Dark Devil Auto® (SWS38) shows a strong hybrid vigor since germination. Plants grow with the appearance of Indica-Sativa hybrids, developing a strong main stem and numerous side branches, finishing with a big main cola surrounded by multiple smaller buds on the side branches. Resin production is abundant in the flowers and in their surrounding leaves. Sweet and fruity aroma with hints of incense and delightful citrus tones. After harvested and dried the buds acquire a very dark purple tone, almost black.

Jack Herer (2 plants, large tent):

Jack Herer by Vision Seeds is a cross between Skunk #1, Northern Lights #5 and Haze producing a sativa dominant plant which is considered to be among the world’s finest. Named in honour of the legendary cannabis activist Jack Herer who fought till the end for cannabis rights.

The Jack Herer will grow to about 180cm (71") tall and yields roughly 500g/m2 in 9 weeks. Buds are light green with resin glands all over. The smoke has a spicy, hazey, taste and comes with a cerebral, euphoric, high.

Lemon Auto (1 seed, small tent):

Auto Lemon is an inbred cross auto-flowering marijuana strain created by fertilising a Lemon Skunk female plant from Green House Seeds with pollen from a male Lowryder #2 plant courtesy of The Joint Doctor. Auto Lemon develops into an easy-to-grow medium-sized auto plant with a tendency to conform to a single cola growth pattern with little side-branching which makes it an ideal Sea of Green strain for indoors or a stealthy option for outdoors during the summer months.

Its life cycle is completed in approximately two and a half months from seed making three or even four consecutive grows possible outdoors in warmer regions such as the Mediterranean. The aroma is rather Skunk-like with lemon undertones and the taste is similarly Skunk-like, acrid with citrus notes. It is also likely to be quite high in CBD and therefore possibly beneficial for medicinal users.

Northern Lights (1 plant, large tent):

Northern Lights is a pure indica and is one of the most strong and famous cannabis strains. Created at the end of the '80s, NL is a little plant with wide-fingered indica leaves. The taste is pungent with a sweet after taste. As a typical indica the effect is strong, producing a high level of relax for the body and the mind. This strain is very uniform and it performs well in both soil and hydro.

Sour Diesel (1 plant, large tent):

Quite possibly the most popular strain in the world, Sour Diesel’s reputation as a pungent, fast-acting fuel is legendary. This sativa goes straight to the head, imparting a cerebral, energetic high. Dank buds smell of citrus fruits and open diesel. This plant grows quickly, particularly in the first 3 weeks of flowering, and is an excellent choice for “sea of green” gardens. Light green flowers mature in 10 weeks.

That's all folks. Thanks for following along.
Impressive spreadsheet! I’m really interested that you topped one of the autos. I have a bunch of auto seeds ands that’s what I’ll be growing for a while... so I’m tempted to top one or two. But some people say never do that.

If this is a recreational grow, what would a full time grow look like? WOW...

:welcome: to my journal, Twist. I'm retired so all my time is recreational these days. :laughtwo:

However, that's not why I named it my recreational grow. It's named "recreational" because all of the strains are for fun and not medical.

I only started growing a year ago. My first grow was 2 Dark Devil Autos, which I grew in perlite. Then I switched to ProMix and I was low on pain meds so that's what predominantly what I grew in my second grow and then my Winter 2021 grow, the second link in my signature line in which we're growing 9 CBD-only plants (Alpine Star CBD from WeedseedsExpress) to treat depression and to act as a preventative to memory loss/Alzheimer's since it runs in my husband's family.

So, when we were halfway through this grow, I said to my husband we'll have lots of CBD and we have lots of CB Dutch Treat (daytime pain meds) and lots of Hash Plant (nighttime pain meds and insomnia cure), may I grow only plants for fun and he said yes and here we are. :battingeyelashes:

:welcome: to my grow journal, DeeBoy.

I create spreadsheets for all of my grows (despite the fact that I suck at math). It's the best way to keep on top of everything, in my opinion. And, besides that I  Microsoft Excel. It's such a versatile program.

I had 50 Dark Devil Auto seeds so experimenting with topping one of them was a no brainer. I won't do it on a Dark Devil again but I'm not ruling it out for other autoflowers.
