cool,
well this is a quick break down on what i have done,
i got 2 plants in about the middle of flower, i got the exact same plants in late flower and will possibly be harvesting one tomorrow, so ill have somthing to compare the buds to this time round due to them been the exact same strain and the buds growing and looking exactly like each other,
also today i have got another plant growing of the same strain but this is in veg and about 2 weeks old, its 4 nodes high and all growth at the nodes either side of main stem is only 1 or 2cm per branch so leaves are tiny on the new branches, anyways ill follow bassmans guide to the letter on this plant, he says its best to prepare the plants for pruning by starting in veg, so today i removed all the fan leaves, these fan leaves where bigger than my hand so all have been chopped off, all thats left on the plant is the top leaves that are growing and will turn into fan leaves and a new node, then its just the small side shoots with tiny leaves at either side of the main stem,
so ill let the plant recover and grow out a bit before 1 more pruning or possibly 2 more depending on how long i veg it for, its best to prune in 1 go as taking a few leaves each day just prolongs the stress and badly stunts growth, so on the flowering plants if i took just 2 leaves one day then took another couple 2 or 3 days later then the plant dont have time to recover and it badly affects growth, trust me its tried and tested by myself, i kept removing leaves as and when needed due to them blocking light getting to nodes, so its a bad idea to remove a few leaves at a time, its best to take a lot so the plant recovers and grows, when removing a lot of leaves it takes around 10 days to fully recover and so that the new growth is noticable, but its crazy how much they do grow once they recover,
in the wild these plants lose leaves all the time, animals eat them, insects eat them, weather damage destroy leaves also, but when we grow indoors we do not remove any leaves when in theory the plant may not need all these leaves as its not at risk of losing leaves due to animal damage, we give the plants everything they need indoors so they have a lot less to deal with, so do they really need all the leaves or does it benefit them to have a lot less leaves so they can focus the growth else where,
if bassmans journals are anything to go by then it looks like his method works, but would his plants preduce buds that big if he didnt prune or would he have even bigger buds, without running tests its a tough call to make, so hopefully we can learn something from my small test.
im pretty much on the fence regarding it, i have got amazing results by pruning and to be honest they was the biggest buds i have grown so far, but again could be strain related and i might of got buds of the same size of bigger if i did not prune, but buds are leaf and flower so making the plant grow more leaves within the buds might make the buds bigger, im sure interested to find out,
