GT's Ongoing Garden of Weeden - Keep It Simple Stupid!

Hey GT, I searched your thread, but I don't see a lot of pictures of your grow space. Where exactly is that area? It looks like some sort of crawlspace or something. I found your other pictures of the closet area, but I don't think this is the same grow space is it? Just curious about it. I'm always interested in the grow labs as much, if not more, than the plants themselves. :)

The beginnings of this project start here in this journal:
GT's Ongoing Garden of Weeden - Keep It Simple Stupid!

Hey GT, you get those bugs taken care of? If not, hit me up. I have full-proof cure for those and other nasty pests. :-) I can write it here if you want but I'll wait to hear if you still need a solution ;-) Sorry to hear about the flood, I hate unexpected problems....

HAHA!!

Umm, damn.... Major Catastrophy...

For some reason the sump pump that keeps the Budcave from FLOODING!!! didn't engage at some time last night. Don't know if the float valve got stuck, the breaker flipped, or what happened. Anyways, when I went out to check on it this morning just before lights on, I look in and I see bottle's of SNS floating, nearly out of the damn entrance!! I immediately checked the area for live electrical in the water, and see the whole pump submerged, and then check for a safe way to unplug everything. I got everything unplugged and pulled the ballast up and checked it out, looked dry.. I then plugged the pump back in for the hell of it and it starts pumping the water out, damn, atleast it works now!!

Ok, so I get the water pumped out, which took an HOUR!!! and my pump ain't no lil 90gph , it friggin MOVES some water my friends, and I climb back down to check the scope of things. Luckily my smaller flowering plants were in a plastic tub, so I guess they just floated on the top, a lil boat of buds, thank God they were OK. Well, now Lucy, she was layed over(all 4 1/2' of her) on top of the Lucy clone I have in my PVC hempy. No broken limbs on either, but she didn't like it much...

I begin to look around, and notice that at the level the water got to, my ballast was indeed under water, and FULLY SUBMERGED at that!!! I said, well, screw it, let's see if it works, I mean it's dry enough to fool me into thinking it never touched the water, so maybe it will.

Guess what......

It works!?!?! WTH??!! I couldn't believe it, but it worked. It is an older school magnetic ballast I'm using(My digital is just put up right now, wanted to run the magnetic til it crapped out, and use the digital ballast as a backup) and I'm glad it is, because the digital one I have with all the fancy electrical boards inside would be fried!!

Ok, so I toss out all of the floating bottles, put what's left of my BPN Nutes up on the shelf, some leaked out, guess I didn't put the lids on tight??? Lit me up a doob, then began to treat everything for the thrips. I used Mosquito Dunks(But the sprinkles kind, same as dunks, but easier to work with in soil type medias) in the soil, and sprayed ALL the plants with Captain Jack's(Spinosad). Then I got the hell out of there before I had a nervous breakdown, lol....

I will let ya'll know how everything is going tomorrow, maybe I can get some pics, the incident this morning kinda sidetracked me..

Peace and God bless,
GT

Oh, man this sucks. Glad it wasn't worse than it could have been. Whew, on the ballast! Sounds like you're on the bug thing, good. :goodluck:

Funny for a Gator to be flood shy, but I live on a hill for good reason.

Now if I can burn out the last spider mite, my six new sprouts might live.

Heat gun! Yo Borg, got some hot love for you

"Burn 'em if you got 'em."

Old gators die hard, so screw the swamp, full of fart water anyways!

Mites? Them buggers suck!! SNS the hell outta them, kill em all, let God sort em out!

Will take a couple weeks to see if the treatment worked, but please feel free to post any knowledge you have here, your welcome anytime old friend!!

HAHA!! Yeah, I think I just got by by a hair!!

Everyone please take the time to go vote in the contests. I am running this month but am not campaining myself, please vote for what plant/nug/member you feel is best!!!

Hey GT, here's my fix for bugs and works very well with just one treatment. I only do this in veg, I did mine once but fixed other gardens too. The reason for doing it only in veg is because this is systemic and stays in the plant for up to 6 - 8 weeks. It works and you don't need to worry about crop in flower ;-) The great thing about Avid is that you don't have to worry about spraying under every leaf. I try to get under most of them but don't go crazy because Avid kills from the top too. This is strong but effective so I only spray once but you could spray again about a week later if needed. When spraying the plants I wear a mask, anything will work as long as you cover your nose and mouth and wear glasses so you don't get any in your eyes. I do this because I spray the plants, the pots, underneath the pots, the walls and the ceiling of the room. Just spray it and walk away...

1.5ml/gal Avid
45ml/gal Azamax (yes, 45ml not 4.5)
1.5ml/gal dish soap

After treating with above recipe. Then do this within the next day or two.

I also spray plants with a simple compost and molasses tea which works very well too. 1/4 cup molasses per gallon then add enough compost until the bucket is full and dense with compost. Put air stones on bottom first and let it bubble for 3 days or so. Then strain, this is the hard part. Spray plants with liquid and add 1ml/gal dish soap. This provides micro nutrients and bacteria to the plants and most bugs don't like it so they leave.. You can spray every week or two until the plants are about a week in flower. And, lastly..... to stop soil/fungus gnats you can put the strained compost on top of your pots right up to the stem. I hope this helps somebody :-)

I will admit that Avid is expensive but in the long run it is cheaper than chasing the problem the entire grow and possibly affecting your crop ;-)

Anyone have any input on the Nirvana's Ice?

I grew Nirvana Ice in a SoG...check out my last journal if you're curious. Was there anything specific you were wondering? I only ask because I actually have quite a few thoughts on the strain...so many in fact that it will take me some time to collect all my thoughts!

Sorry to hear about the flood, but it sounds like it could have been much worse. :thumb:

Ok, here is the update I promised:

Looks like I may have the bugs pretty much whipped!! I seen none at all today, and very few a couple days ago. I am going to treat one more thime, then strip done the Budcave for a very good cleaning. And I also used Mosquito Dunks, but instead of the dunks, I used the shaker product. You just sprinkle some on the soil, and mix in the top layer, water, and let it do its thing.

I am feeding the flowering plants @ 1250 ppm, Blue Planet only, of course, and they aren't showing signs of minding either, well, maybe the Lucy mother just a little... She is WAY TOO TALL for the cave. Maybe 7-8" max from the light, @ 5 1/2' tall. I think I will get some nice nugs off her though. Man, "I LOVE LUCY!"

Wild Thai was re-potted, and think she loves it too, she is in her stretch, and reaching for the sky, err, umm, I mean, HPS...

Blueberrygum is bushy as all hell, and looking good, I will be re-potting her tonight or tomorrow. Don't thing she is going to do much more stretching, but will bush out a little more, her side branches are catching up with her main, and her nodes are VERY close together, if she turns out to be good smoke, I may use her for breeding with some of my stretchier strains..

Lucy Hempy clone is at about 2'!!! I really like this pheno for hempy SOG. Very nice, sativa-like nugs, filled with trichomes. Heavy yielder somewhat, for being such a tall plant with nodes that are not close at all. I really want to thank OMM for introducing everyone to Lucy, or atleast in letting the cat out of the bag, or rather, the nug outta tha bag!!

Without further adieu, some pictures:
