Grow #2: Outdoor/CFL Auto 420 Blueberry & AK-47 Smart Pots With Dr Earth Soil

From your lips to god's ears! ;)

Welcome back nobody, glad you survived the rains!

I've got a number of theories about the pale leaves:
- heat
- lack of water to the new roots (watered too far out from the peat)
- lack of nutrients accessible to the roots due to increase in soil/perlite ratio

Could be any combination of these, but no matter which it is I have them all taken care of. Well, I can't do much about the heat but I do get nearly 30 mpg in the city! :)

AK 4 is greening up very nicely this morning. Here they all are on day 18. I'll be going back to neem oil tonight:

Looking better already, color is looking better and they look happier today.✌️

Thanks ECG! Today they're looking better still, on day 20. Sprayed with neem this morning and they def look better with each day. Hoping the slow start (for two of them anyway) doesn't stunt them too bad. Not too worried as they grow a lot longer than the breeder claims!

Blue 3. Not sure about that purple on the new leaves though:

Just wanted to post a blow-up of AK 4 that shows how LST produces so many tops. Here on day 20 with the main stem growing flat, you can see the next 4 tops that will be heading up. As they get bigger, if there are any side shoots on those they will be trained as well. But even without those you can see why there will be no lower buds or popcorn hidden under the fans and the auxins will be distributed across all the tops.

Here's an explanation on why it works:

"LST is helping to stimulate that growth near the bottom but by tricking the plant instead of chopping it. In nature, if something happens to a plant and the bud that is closest to the light gets blocked, it will try to move around that something. If it can't, then eventually new growth will form lower along the stem to try and send a new shoot out to head towards the light.

When you LST, the reason that you are tying the tip of the plant down is so that the plant gets confused. It is used to producing the auxins in the tip of the plant close to the light. However, because the tip of the plant is pulled down to such a degree, it is not receiving light at the very tip like it used to so it sends the auxins down the stem to produce new sprouts to become new apical buds (or so the plant hopes).

This is why some people continue training as the plant gets older, but like to start when the plant is new as auxin development starts with roots and continues through all stages of the plant. Continued training of the plant is helpful because, as you can imagine, each apical tip can be brought down to promote new growth further down the stem. Every time you bring the tip down, the plant will be fooled. As new tips of the plant are reaching towards the light, pulling them back down below 90 degrees (or close to it) will make those auxins start to flow again. This can continue on and on."

Do you ever top Shed? Or just let the training do it all? I was Planning to top, then train down both the dominant growths latterally.

Tuesday and completely grey skies at the moment. Like June Gloom in September! I think I messed up the days, so today is day 20.

There's enough of a stem on Blue 3 to join the LST club! Hard to grab any new growth on the other two as the spacing is still really tight.

Have you noticed the missing set of leaves on top left of AK 5 that I mentioned earlier? It's much easier to see now that it's grown out.

Also, the two AK's have very different shaped leaves. Phenotype or odd breeding? It is a 50/50 hybrid after all.

They look to really be getting from that training!! I personally know with each top growth is temporarily slowed and the sooner, typically the more so. Older plants recover more quickly. But that won't stop me :) Keep up the good stuff shed!!!

Thanks Therm! I never thought I'd be bending a sprout as small as Blue 3, but they really don't seem to mind once they're in growth mode. I'm hoping that 420d will be able to compare the untopped vs topped versions in the end. The two strains I'm growing were pretty short when they went into flower so I feel like any slowdown isn't worth the chance. I'm thrilled with the amount of dope I pulled off of LST Blue 2 (I'll have a final weight on that by the weekend) so I don't think I need to add topping to the mix.

If I grow a photo in the spring I will be trying three techniques on it though: LST, topping, and supercrop. But lots to grow before that! :)

Totally agree :) I would not top either. While I know ppl that do, I am confident the LST will work wonders and not cost you the slowed growth that comes with topping! C ant wait to see those yields :)

Looks like you had some thrip damage, they may come back, if you can get ahold of any spinosad products, that's the ticket for them. You can do a root drench with it as well and it won't hurt your plants at all.
Other than that, things look real good .
Can You use h202 in coco Sun? For pest if necessary? And how could you tell about thrives? Little white specks??
