Grow #2: Outdoor/CFL Auto 420 Blueberry & AK-47 Smart Pots With Dr Earth Soil

Man, you have had a few months worth of fun in a week. Between your father and son.

I remember being that kid on the field trip who was caught with vodka and weed. 4 degrees later and I am growing weed in my closet as an adult. LOL.

Your clones look freaking incredible. I have some AK47 auto I need to try. I think I will be doing an autoduck (supposed to not look like weed till late flower) this spring in a start indoor/move outdoor grow.

I wish you a lot of patience.

only the flowers and the smell should give it away the leafs dont look anything like the leafs one expect from a cannabis plant ... i am keen on seeing that grow ... keep us posted when ye do pls ;)

Wednesday and the sun is kinda out and so are the plants! No SPOG® pics today...I'll put up trichome pics later this week as it's day 84.

Blue 4 on day 47 has flowers but not like Blue 1 or 2 did, so the slower maturation rate should give it time to grow bigger before it goes into full flower. The lower temps and the fewer hours of daylight are keeping it small, but it's got at least another 47 days to go!

And here is AK 4 on day 45. I'm going to have to do some leaf tucking on this as the lower sites are getting covered.

Sorry for the uncropped pics today...doing too many things at once and forgot!

Do you need to train autos to get the most out of them? Your plants look beautiful by the way

I would say that training almost any cannabis plant can get it to produce more than just letting it grow straight up. The main idea behind training is to trick the plant into thinking that something is wrong (or actually damaging it!) and it needs to do more than just do its normal thing. LST makes a plant think it doesn't have a top anymore so it starts sending auxins out to all the flower sites trying to make one of them the new top. If you keep training, they all become tops and you can get top-like colas from every bud. Supercropping damages the stems and forces the plant to strengthen the stem and build it thicker, increasing the nutrients it can send to the bud sites. Topping obviously creates additional bud sites because there really isn't a top any more.

Many people just do LST on autos because there isn't much room for error with their built-in flowering timetable. But some top early and have good results.

Like I mentioned in Ripe1's thread, I highly recommend at least LST for your autos. I got over 4 ounces dried off my blueberry auto outside (13 tops - can you spot the main cola?):

And Moonshine17 has two blueberry autos he's got trained as well. Here's one:

I don't know how many you have growing but if you have two of the same strain, do a side-by-side comparison and see how you do!

The (dynamic and environment responsive) pattern of auxin distribution within the plant is a key factor for plant growth, its reaction to its environment, and specifically for development of plant organs[5][6] (such as leaves or flowers). It is achieved through very complex and well coordinated active transport of auxin molecules from cell to cell throughout the plant body — by the so-called polar auxin transport.[5] Thus, a plant can (as a whole) react to external conditions and adjust to them, without requiring a nervous system. Auxins typically act in concert with, or in opposition to, other plant hormones. For example, the ratio of auxin to cytokinin in certain plant tissues determines initiation of root versus shoot buds.

from wiki ... in cannabis the auxins are the highest concetrated in the highest area of the plant ... by lowering the maincola the auxins redistribute through the plant sparking all sideshoots to grow ...

Friday and after spending yesterday in the shed bc more workers in the backyard, today they are back on the table in the partly sunny skies. This weekend is supposed to be warm and sunny so they are looking forward to that! I think tomorrow's watering I'll be dialing in the Open Sesame and TigerBloom.

Here is Blue 4 on day 49. Still pulling down the main cola and spreading out the undergrowth:

No pics today but I did want to include an update on nutes. SPOG® got 32 oz standard nute mix from last time.

The young'ns started getting their flowering nutes today, mixed as follows in a gallon of water:

3 ml of cal/mag+
5 tablespoons of Big Bloom (usually 4 but I wanted to finish the bottle)
1 teaspoon of Grow Big
1/8 teaspoon of Open Sesame
3/4 teaspoon of Tiger Bloom

PPM was 840-150 water = 690 PPM nutes (all measured before Big Bloom).

Each got 32 ounces.

Next time I will go to 1/4 tsp Open Sesame, bump the TB to 1 teaspoon, and cut GB to 1/2 tsp, and see where the PPM ends up. If it ends up lower I will bump the TB.

I added more tie-downs and did a bunch of leaf tucking, and I swapped out the 6500K CFLs for 2700K. It's hard to work the CFLs around the T8 fixture though so that's an ongoing issue. I may end up building something that hangs off the sides of the fixture.

Well put there, Shed... I myself, wood never top a auto, unless I really knew the plant well, or anything that wood slow it down even for a day.
I guess I need to read,,, why the DE on the leaf? I've never heard of that. I mean using DE as a top dressing. I understand what and how she works,,, but what were you treating them for? And did it work? I imagine it wood work for most soft bodied insects.
Nice pics... Keepem Green

DE works wherever the bugs are walking, and since a lot don't walk on the soil, spraying the leaves kills the ones that try to live on them. I use the water spray to get the undersides (where most of our pests are) and to keep the dust out of the air. Once it dries it's all the same!

Originally I was using it for fungus gnats on the soil but DeVille recommended covering the whole plant (in veg). Apparently it's a no-no in flower at it gets into the calyxes and you end up inhaling it when smoked.

Sunday morning! Sun is out and so are the autos...

Here is Blue 4 on day 51. You can see all the bud sites as well as the new growth. I don't expect anything close to Blue 2 but it's still fun to train every day! Top view:

Hey any bud is good bud as long as you loved her the best you could

Just a quickie update today. I did an upgrade on the lights yesterday with 1x3's, a hole saw, and a hot glue gun. Now the young'ns are under 64 watts of T8s at 6500K, and they each have 4x100watt-eq of CFLs, 2 each at 2700K and 2 each at 6500K. Oh yeah, and new tin foil too!
