Ground Zero Newbie Grower

Re: Ground zero newbie grower.

The kids are looking good. New pics coming hopefully this weekend. I am waiting for some parts to come in. I am adding a frame inside my tent that will hold the side lights and allow them to slide back and forth to cover the entire 8ft. Pics will tell the story better than I can explain it. lol

Re: Ground zero newbie grower.

Well my parts did not come in Friday so no updated photos yet. The kids are looking really good. Today is day 12 since planting the seeds and they look strong and healthy. One of the Alaskan Ice plants is going slower than the others but still looking healthy. Probably going to start LSTing some of them next week. Monday my parts should be in so I can assemble my light rack.

Shaggy,
I sure hope you are right. A bountiful harvest would be most welcome. Thinking it will likely be a Valentine's harvest is all goes well.

Re: Ground zero newbie grower.

Still no parts today (damn UPS) so I thought some updated photos of kids were in order. This is 13 days after planting the seeds.

Re: Ground zero newbie grower.

Thank you Sonz.

My parts just came in. Now I can get to work on my light rack. So far they have been vegging under a single Sun Blaze 48 T5. I think by next week they will be ready for the second T5. Somewhere in the 4-6 week window I will start to flower if all looks good. Probably transplant into 5-gallon buckets in the next 7-10 days.

Re: Ground zero newbie grower.

Screwnut33 Not your normal newbie grow going on here! Where are the curled, discolored, Brown spoted leaves? You have done the schooling Screwnut33. So you decided to tranplant in to 5 gallon bucket before determining sex? It amazing what those t5's can do for 16 plants. How many bulbs is that again? and you will be adding how many more bulbs of t5s? Thanks for your time and a great journal Screwnut33! :roorrip: :goodjob: :peace:..... PS... I see YOU all around this site answering questions thank you and keep up the great work helping others.

Weed,
Thank you. It really is my first time growing. I di however do my homework. Read the grower's bible and spent many hours on this site refining my plan before I started. I think that is the key to a sucessful grow. Gather all your information on supplies, strains, nutes, etc before you begin. Insure everything is compatible before you begin. This site has a wealth of knowledge and experience that most are more than willing to share. Could not have even begun without that back up support.

The T5 they are currently vegging under is an 8-bulb 4ft 54 watts per bulb total 432 watts. I am more than impressed with the light. I can get the light down to 2-3" from the plant with no burning or drying out. The girls (I hope) seem to really like it. The bulbs are 6500k in color. I have a second 8-bulb T5 that I will be adding this weekend. Once I go to flower I will use the T5's as side lights to enhance the two 600 watt HPS lights.

My thoughts on transplanting before sexing is this. They are currently in 1/2 gallon pots. I am pretty certain they won't make another 3-4 weeks of vegging in a pot that size without becoming root bound. My hope is to do only one transplant to lessen the stress on the plants. So my thought was to transplant while still in veg and give them a week or two to stabilize before going to flower. I am very open to input on this idea. If some turn male I am out the extra soil and some nutes. Are they any other negatives I am missing with this approach? Any and all input is welcome.

Buddy! That is going to be one HELL of a flowering room. You do not see many growers useing side lights like that... nice plan! As far the soil of the males it will not be useless. Once the roots are clean from it and you pool it together in a garbage bag your all set to reuse. Continue the GreaT work you are doing Screwnut33! Heres hopeing there are very few males.:peace:

Re: Ground zero newbie grower.

TW,
I sure hope the side lights make a difference. I haven't found any info on other people doing the same. Hope to have my light rack done this Sunday. If all 16 plants turn out to be female I am in a heap of trouble. lol. I don't think I will have that much room in a 4x8 tent. lol. My luck is not that good so there will no doubt be some males. I knew going in that starting from seed I would have losses. I germed 20, 3 did not come up, and one croaked for unknown reason. 15 of the 16 remaining look real good. One of the Alaskan Ice plants is lagging behind and does not look as strong as the others. Hoping to end up with 12 that go full term. Right now my only potential issue will be that I have to leave them unattended for about 3 days. That comes up in about two weeks so they should be plenty strong by then.
