Where I live the closest hydro store is eight hours away (joys of living in the boonies) . That's why re using it would be good option for me . The breaking down I was talking about was decomposing . Where rockwool doesn't break down to decompose in landfill . Use coco right now , and when it starts to run out its worry season lol
Rockwool doesn't need to breakdown.. its made of rocks and rocks dont decompose!! Rocks are heated to molten temperatures then spun into wool strands as it cools, the strands are then packed together, and then cut into appropriate shapes and such and wrapped in an environment friendly wrap to prevent them from falling apart. Rockwool can be ordered online and delivered to your door. And its not really that expensive like i mentioned.
Like The Capn suggested... open up your own garden store!!
>>> 1. Nothing wrong with the iPhone video, but if you turn it landscape, it will show correctly on YT.
I will do that next video i take!!
>>> 2. Oh man, classic. The emergency blanket. Love it!
Yea it does the trick thats for sure. It doesn't create hotspots like aluminum foil does. Problem is, it keeps the majority of the heat inside the bathub area when its over the front of the frame, not on the back like it is now.
I'm thinking about building an enclosed... Thing (didn't know how to describe it.. thing works) to go in the tub.. that utilizes the drain in the tub.. making for easy drain to waste.
>>> 3. You just totally schooled me on "Dina-fem". I have been saying "Dye-na-fem" in my head. That company is in Spain, I think. Obviously pronounced "dee-na-fem". Good call. I hope yours turns out as good as mine did. Top those puppies and get the light closer to avoid string beans
i just pronounced it the way it looked to me. haha
I would love to get that light closer, but its a bare 600w bulb, not an air cooled reflector, and it puts out some heat. The seedlings (no longer seedlings in my eyes. They've past the fragile stage) have to stay at the distance they are at as i do not want to stress them while they are young.
my enclosed veg area i'm thinking of will utilize an aircooled HID, or i will put my LED i have in the tent, into the veg box and add one more LED the same size to the enclosure.
Will be topping them along with the rest of the seedlings. I "tipped" my Girl Scout Cookies i have in there yesterday as per your "bend and snap" method you did in your blog post. They are apparently a sativa dom strain, so i dont want tall tanky plants!
>>> 4. Do you know what caused your other plant to hermie in flower? I want to hermie my purple dream... on purpose.
I think it was a light leak. The GWS that hermies was the closest plant to the opening of the door.. The growing chamber is light proof tho, so i'm thinking it could have possibly just been a late flower female pollen sack that i didn't catch in time. NO problem tho, cause i got a whole bunch of beans that were VERY viable (all germinated faster than seeds i bought from breeders) and saved me a bunch of money in buying seeds. Even tho i went an ordered like 30 more seeds in the last 2 months!!
>>> 5. In the airpot tub in veg, I saw some standing water in the bottom. The veg plant in LED has no waste drain. Is that on purpose? I like to drain to waste, instead of letting the plant soak everything up. Later in the video I think I heard you say you were going to switch to recirculating in veg
Yes, you're right, everything right now has NO drain. With the exception of the Sweet Tooth under LED that doesn't have any extra water to soak up.. When i water the Sweet Tooth, i make sure that i empty the run off as well, so no roots are sitting in that nutrient mixture. The plants in veg tho.. they have extra water sitting under the pots for a day or so before the light evaporates it.
I am going to remodel my veg area temporarily to have 3 rubbermaid totes like that with holes drilled in the lids so the water drips into the totes, then the totes themselves will have drain holes in them too which will drain into the bathtub and down the drain. Sure i could just have them in the totes with no lids, but the lids are great for raise the plants 8" or so closer to the lights, especially when they are young and small.
I am thinking about somehow making a recirculating system in veg ONCE i have the RDWCs set up and on a schedule. I'm hoping that each RDWC plant can pull in 1-2lbs dried, making each system that i harvest anywhere from 2-4lbs. I will off set each system by.. i duno 4 weeks? so that one month, one system comes down, new plants go in... then a month later, the other system comes down, and new plants go in. Then a month later, the first system comes down again and is replaced.. and the cycle continues.
My issue is going to be having a veg area that can hold 2 monster plants ready for the RDWCs In their own DWC i'm thinking. Probably back to 2 big ass plants in my bathroom again, with the clones of each hiding underneath the canopy in a humidity dome like near the end of my first journal
>>> 6. Everything looking so healthy.
Thanks. That means a lot coming from someone who's grow is pretty much like clockwork and always seems so impeccable. Except the widow in flower that has a bit of gnat damage (i actually dont seen many of those fuckers anymore and i conveniently brought home some sticky traps too.. damn!), everything is actually looking really really healthy. I am actually pleased with the grow box's performance this time around. As you may or may not remember, i scrapped the Hydrotub the first run and made my own DWC tubs. This time i am using the top feed system. I am making sure to keep a live environment in my reservoir, like i learned from you.
>>> 7. I like that grow box. I wish I had something like that to play around in. It is possible to keep it cool enough if you didn't leave the door open?
The grow box is actually really nice.. I really dislike how little vertical growing space you have.. I wish i had researched a bit more and saved up some extra money and gotten a Trinity 3.0 From SuperCloset (check Stealthgrow's journals he has the LED version)
Its 6ft tall, which give you a decent amount of vertical space to work with, has 2 separate closets for perpetual grows, and a built in veg/clone/seedling area at the bottom with T5's, and also has an LED version as well if people decide to use LED's. Also fully automated like my grow box..
I went with BC Northern Lights cause i can take a hour and 45 min bus adventure to get there, or a 45 min drive if the Lady is home and it came with a 3 year warranty on parts and labour, plus 365 day a year tech and grow support. They give you their cell numbers to call them if you have a problem, very good people there. SuperCloset comes with a warranty and such but i don't know about tech and grow support, or if you are able to pick up if you live locally like i do.
I guess this stuff outweighs the height constrictions, as well as the fact that its so low to the ground. But that can easily be fixed by putting the box on to risers or blocks to raise it up.
>>> 8. The plant in veg under LED. Not topped yet?
Topping it today, transplanting it today, going to take the two lowest branches off and clone them today.
This Sweet Tooth came from a regular seed, and i would like to know if i have a female, or if i am tossing it now, and ordering some more Sweet Tooth seeds.
The breeder they came from (BC Bud Depot) used to be quite a shady breeder with a terrible reputation. But since then, they have changed head breeder guys and management and such and now have some really good quality genetics on their menu, plus offer a lot of other good quality breeders strains, like Reeferman, T.H.Seeds, Soma seeds, Delta Nine Labs and DNA genentics
>>>11. That plant in VEG under LED is looking stellar. Nice white roots too. A+
Thanks. Gona step up the tea usage to 1 time every week, maybe even once every 4 days. gotta stop being so lazy with the beneficials!
>>> 12. Don't step on the rockwool, your socks will get wet.
True story.
+1
>>> 13. I still want that WW. Looking so good for 24 days. Looking at the WW in flower, your canopy looks great but I can tell you would benefit from topping earlier. I top my clones as SOON as I see new growth after rooting. Then top those two a week later. This pretty much turns one plant into 4 plants
I should have topped it earlier, but this was my first grow, and i didnt know squat! I let it grow vertical for a long time before topping it and taking clones from the middle of it, thats why theres a big section missing. Theres a couple lower branches that normally should have been taken off because half of them wont get very big, but those will still be good for a dry ice kief run, as well as the tops of those branches are actually developing pretty well, and will probably be taken for a sample close to harvest, or kept depending on its size. its all pretty frosty tho, so i'm most likely keeping it all.
I am going to top all my plants now i'm thinking so that i can keep them low and bush them out and have a bunch of plants with wide, flat, even canopies!
>>> 14. Does the single hose air con blow dank air outside?
It does not actually, i cant find the specific page that has the specifications of this AC, but i dont smell anything when i smell the exhaust hose. Plus, my exhaust fan in the big tent sucks so much air in, that no smell escapes even when the tent door flap is open. The grow box is starting to stink right now, but thats cause i dont have the carbon filter on it at the moment.
>>> 15. I see the intake in the room for the cool tubes, where is the output?
The output for the lights as well as the exhaust for the whole big tent comes above my head when walking towards the big tent, its just hanging on the top of the doors that open from the den into the spare bedroom. They then lay on the top of the 4x4 tent then dangle down behind the AC at the moment.
I am working on getting all the ducting into one main exhaust duct so i dont have like 3 silver dryer ducts, plus an AC hose coming ot my window.. we dont need a knock on the door!
>> Thanks so much for the video update. This is motivating me to do another vid. Maybe later this week
You really should. I'm sure your grow space has changed a lot since the last video you did, which reminds me, i should go watch it again.
>>> Do you think a 4x4 with the same led you have will be enough to veg 2 plants comfortably? Or go for a 5x5?
Hey C 1... a 4x4 tent will be a sufficient size, but maybe you want to get 2 of those lights just to make sure you have some good wattage being put out by the LEDs. as well as some good penetration. Especially if you wanna veg 2 beasts before they go into the RDWC. I dont know if its LED, but it seems like its taken forever for the Sweet Tooth to get this big.
Maybe i just dont remember now long and slow this process is before the rapid growth phase!!
And Finally, today is my Birthday as some of you know, and while i was laying in bed still and Lady GT was walking our dog, she checked the mail on the way upstairs, and this is what i found inside of a yellow envelope:
THANKS Cannabis 1!! NO, the buds did NOT come from him, but what i was going to fill one of those rollies with....
Which I did:
Great way to start my birthday! Thanks buddy!
Anyways, i'm off to do a bit of garden work around the apartment then will be heading out for a nice birthday dinner with Lady GreenThumb later this evening!
Hope everyone is having a great day!
