Graytail's Cupwinners in High Brix Soil - 4x4 - 600W HPS - Perpetual

ya i kinda thought that too. but they are all still pumping pistils and i see just clear tri's.

anyone else have thoughts on timing?

thanks b.
I'm no expert VonDan but It's been said time and time again that for a nice head high you want mostly cloudy trichs with maybe 5 to 15% amber trichs. For a couch-lock body high you want maybe 20 to 35% amber trichs but you definitely want mostly cloudy not clear before you chop. I personally find it best to chop as soon as the ambers are really noticeable. On my first harvest I went to far and although it was good to stay at home & bug-out with the lady & daughter it wasn't the type of high for carrying out your daily functions; Too lackadaisical.

In my book that's a good overall haul Gray.

Heheh, sorry darlin', but I just couldn't leave that double entendre unwinked.

;)

I have final weights for Green Love Potion and Panama Seed.

GLP yielded 37 grams, 1.30 ounces over 100 days = 0.370 grams/day. Not so great. I promise I'll give it a fair test one day soon, CareStaker. The one bud I smoked when I jarred it didn't impress me but I had 18 brix Carnival available, too, so ... :cheesygrinsmiley:

The seed I grew from my self-pollinated purple Panama pheno bred true - gorgeous color at the finish, fairly good yield at 63 grams, 2.22 ounces over 119 days = 0.529 grams/day.

Panama Seed - 119 days - 61 days 12/12 - 50 days since pistils - brix 14/15

Wow... I had to reply just to post those beauties again!! I applaud your harvest!!! Absolutely stunning buds! Looks like you have 2 green thumbs and possible a hulk gardening hand :)

Amazing Graytail!!!

I chopped Carnival Cut2 today and I think I hit a new best. :yahoo:

Her brix came in at 18/18 and she was heavier and stickier than I thought. This one is the real deal! I've test-smoked two lower branches and they were both noticeably smoother and stronger than the Carnival I've been smoking. It's one heckuva strain and this is one heckuva plant! It looked smaller than its sister that yielded 3 oz, but after handling it and washing it, I think it's actually heavier. You feel the weight of these buds in your hand.

It isn't pretty, but it's the best sativa I've smoked yet, and it's easy to grow. I love this strain! :cheesygrinsmiley: It was actually starting to grow calyxes again, but its need got the best of it and it started to grow healthy nanners. I think I'll let the next one nanner a bit and fertilize a younger clone with it. I want seeds of this strain. :cheesygrinsmiley: Many pics to follow.

Very nice indeed! And it's first time I ever hear of Carnival. So it's better than most hazes and even Panama? :)

I have another weekly update.

I only have three plants left in the bloom room - a Grapefruit, a WWxSkunk#1, and a Carnival. The Grapefruit looks pretty good with nice trich development and beautifully shiny leaves ... but crappy brix. The last one rarely broke 10, but that was in underperforming soil. This one reads 10, too, AND so does the one still in veg. There's something about this strain that isn't happy with its conditions. Does anyone have any tips for growing a C-99? I think I'm going to have to treat this strain differently if I want high brix from it.

The day after the last update, I supercropped WWxSk. It was going to break 40" the way it was growing and I couldn't put up with that, so I broke down her four longest branches, and it went quite well. It's very early into bloom, so it barely noticed. I was startled to read 13/14 brix - doing well. I recharged this one today - a couple weeks earlier than normal.

Carnival Cut3 has set pistils and is looking especially good. I'll plan to let this one run very long and harvest some pollen from her nanners.

I have CCC potted up and getting fatter. I've been contemplating culling this one and running a second Carnival cut instead. I didn't like the look of her a couple weeks ago - too compact/indica looking - but she's starting to spread a bit now. I still have another week before the flip - dunno.

Grapefruit Cut2 got some LST this week. I want lots of tops and a bunch of height on this one before I flip it. It doesn't stretch worth a crap.

Here are the Carnival cuts. They'll probably get up-potted this week.

And I'm still goofing around with these cuts I dropped in water 2 weeks ago. They're growing! 'Sup wit dat?

That was a nice F'in plant bro!!!

Congratulations on your harvest!

Thank you fellow growers! :thanks:

Very nice indeed! And it's first time I ever hear of Carnival. So it's better than most hazes and even Panama? :)

This was just one seed so I can't vouch for the strain, but this plant is the end of a year long search for a hybrid that delivers a clean clear sativa punch. This is the cleanest I've found out of the 14 strains I've grown so far. I would have been happy with that, but it also packs a serious wallop. I love it right now like Lester loves his KC-45. :cheesygrinsmiley: It's perfect for me -exactly what I was looking for!

Absolutely beautiful!!
Graytail, ive read that a bent heavy weighted handsized nug actually allows light to hit the sides, aiding in nug enlargement :)
Plants need to be healthy where they bend and dont break.

Amazing job graytail! Thank you for sharing! :)

It's interesting to hear that, Ziggy. I thought about as I just let them sag like that. I've never seen anyone discussing it, but I've noticed that very mature buds don't really like light all that much. The ones 6-8 inches below the top seem to develop better at the finish. I've also noticed that the far side of the plant develops as well as the near side, so as long as the plant as a whole gets plenty of light it moves nutrients around internally. But the physics of them laying on their sides would seem to just shift the part that gets lit. My reasoning was that they would still be getting the same amount of light on their sides or straight up - total is the same. The difference is that they sat lower and farther from the bulb. If they were still in bud development, being horizontal would screw up the hormones and not be a good idea, but this late ... dunno ... didn't seem to hurt them, at least. :cheesygrinsmiley:

I've been watching the Carnival closely. It's been such a pretty plant all along. It's gonna fatten-up bigtime.

I had to crawl way back to early March in your journal to quote myself, Gray, when your first Carnival was just going into flower. It's an impressive strain and grows beautifully in Doc's soil (and under your care and supervision.) It'll certainly be part of my next seed order. A solid producer for sure. With all the strains and excellent product you've grown out since this journal started your enthusiasm for the Carnival speaks volumes. Thanks for introducing it to us.

Looking so excellent GT.

Thanks to you folks who offered guidance on chopping the Western Winds and letting the JH's go on. Here's pics of the WW after 5 days of hanging unmanicured. This was an inner stem that broke off. It seemed dry enough to test out. I cut, washed and hung the plants whole.

Check out how the leaf bottoms are coated with tri's. Is it well advised to trim those leaves away?

Heheh, it's been my pleasure. ;)

Just curious. Do you dry your buds in your grow room?

Ya, I do. Nobody has given me grief about it yet, but I think it's supposed to be a nono. I hang them above the light at least, so that's not so bad, and I jar them as soon as the stems shrink and bend. So far, no issues.

They look great! Congratulations. You're gonna have some nice smoke! Western Winds sounds like a nice strain. I considered it, but I thought it might be too wild for indoor - guess not. :cheesygrinsmiley: I leave a lot of sugar leaf on my buds because they aren't for sale and I don't care. They're good for joints. For me, they break off in the jar and make some really nice hash fixins when I reach the bottom.

Beautiful beautiful beautiful.....:circle-of-love:

I'm eagerly awaiting your next SBR chop - looks Very good. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Congrats once again Gray... Enjoy.
