Graytail's 3rd: 4x4, HiBrix, Latest LED Tech, Lots Of Light!

GT,

its your choice :)
Lamarckism, Epigenetics

I choose epigenetics. :cheesygrinsmiley: It sounds familiar, at least. Ima gonna take an old-man afternoon nap - maybe look into it later ... :Namaste:

It will be interesting to see if any of my current hunger games plants go more sativa in the kit. I will be growing them side by side with Chem nute plants. Same pot size as well.

So if your clones in cups aren't doing well do you have copies of them rooted already? I freak out when I don't have a copy of something. When putting plants into flower I always make sure to keep one or two of each strain. I can't stand to lose a treasured pheno. My most treasured ones I make sure a buddy has one as well. That way I can get it back. Before this Grow my favorite was the Twister. I told Sue about it. It is a 60% Sativa but grows squat and broad naturally. She goes into flower easily so you have to keep her at least 18hrs light. She smells of cat piss, hash, and fruity citrus. Her high is one that goes first to your cheeks and then fills your head and makes light sparkle more. Then she comes down to the body some but in an energizing way. Hands down my favorite plant ever. My buddy is a long ways away but will bring her back when he will sample my hunger games finalists, help me choose winners, and takes some gals home. I can't wait to introduce you all to her.

Oops sorry, rambling high.

:thanks: Thanks y'all!

I definitely wanted to run DrGrinspoon because of those pictures of that funky pheno, but I wasn't sure I really wanted a harvest of swollen beads on a stem. :laughtwo::hmmm: But also ... those genetics! As it turned out I ended up with a perfectly normal growth habit. The only plant I've seen on 420Mag with that weird habit was DrZiggy's White Widow. Sptiz's DrG was similar to mine, too - no beads on a stick - just a normal looking hybrid-like habit. So I dunno - is the odd habit just more prevalent in DrG? Or is it simply a great marketing picture? :laughtwo: If you read between the lines of the genetics, it looks like DrG is probably the funky bead pheno of Senor Garcia.

But also ... those genetics! Highland Oxacan Gold x Chocolate Thai x Panama Red? :laughtwo: Um, sure, I'll have some!

And it looks like it's a winna! :yahoo: I'm impressed! I'm reminded of that first review on s'finder where the guy says he wasn't really expecting much, but wow. Moi aussi. The potency is listed as ~25% but yadda yadda, heard that before. I'm really glad I have another one in bloom and a third in early veg. I'm hitting on it now and after just three hits so far, I'm feelin' pretty ripped. :laughtwo: Nice high, too, very nice!

It appears that there are still a few phenos in the strain. As I recall, Spitz had a stretchier one, but still not at all unusual to work with - not a fluffy thing. I ran this one 12.5 weeks in bloom, and took it just as pistils were browning.

... three hits and I forgot about the fourth sitting unlit in the pipe - that's usually a good sign ... :slide: :bongrip: ...

Yeah that sounds like spectacular find, dude :tokin:

I can't tell you how many times I've wished I had another grower or two to pass plants to. :cheesygrinsmiley: It'd be great to be able to pass a cut to someone else for a couple cycles at least! I've kept a pheno going for as long as 8 generations, but I haven't been conscientious about cloning so it's only a plant that roots well. :cheesygrinsmiley: I've had my heart broken a few times.

I have a very rough veg space with awkward prospects for fixing it. The issue is humidity, and adding humidity in a subzero climate is a nono. I can't let it escape into the house or it will get into the insulation and freeze. So I have to seal an understair area - funky angles and corners - uneven surfaces ... big headache. I have a possible space for a meter tent, but the shape is awkward for my pot size. I've been growing for a little over two years now, and the prospect of keeping mothers always seems burdensome. But sheesh, every now and then you get a pheno that you never want to lose!

So ... dunno. I'm just a hobby grower after all, and I already produce too much. :laughtwo: It's just that I have this ideal room for blooming and it's 4 x 4.75, so ... that's how much I bloom. The veg support gets kinda tricky, and adding another space for keepers gets a little ambitious for a hobby grower.

Besides, there are another couple dozen strains I still have to run. :slide: :laughtwo:

[Edit] Actually I've been thinking, if I set up a third space, it'd be nice to force hermies and go for S1 seeds. I had it accidentally happen with a gorgeous purple Panama pheno and I have seeds now - beats clones all to hell. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Yeah that sounds like spectacular find, dude :tokin:

You need to put this one on your list. You'd really appreciate the high. :blunt::slide: It's definitely an authentic Central American classic - full, friendly, firm - good stuff!

[Edit] It's at that first perfect stage right now where the small buds are crispy on the outside and soft in the middle? And I'm crushing and sniffing, and I think I'm getting pepper and pine - interesting terpene combination. I'll jar it tomorrow. :cheesygrinsmiley:

GT, great job!! :bravo:

Is it possible that with the kit, the less probable, recessive phenotypes, manifest its greater potential? I've been getting weird phenos since I starting using it. :) True, i use smaller pots, play with the kits ingredients, etc...fun!!! :all good: -Even more so now with the 10.5/13.5 schedule.

:) mixed some Golden Tiger and Panama :thumb:
going to add some Purple Haze to that mix...
and if I remember, some Zamal. :)

SweetSue mentioned in my grow log that cloudy trichomes at 53 days from the clone of a mother who went cloudy trichomes at 64 days, and cloudy trichomes at 40 days from clones listed as 7-9 week and 9-11 week strains, might be from running my flowering room at 11/13 light this time. :scratchinghead:Have you noticed flowering being shorter under a shorter lighting schedule? If so, does this mean lower yield per plant?

'grats on mixing different strains in a bowl. :bravo: The connoisseurs in my house (not me) love mixing the strains I grow. :)

radogast, I end up eliminating most of the growth phase, time wise, due to the light schedule. Yields have varied according to the strains and my playing with Docs kit. I grew 12 plants on a 3 sq ft tote cover, SWICK in azalea pots, harvested over 8 oz of various strains after cutting, washing, and drying the week....totally dried/cured was 7.7 oz
I haven't ran a comparison grow of same strain with more than 11/13 light. :)

Great looking plants GT, as always. Dr.G sounds very interesting, I've always wanted to run it, but haven't had the fortitude. Yours seems fairly tame and quick though.

Loving the adaptation conversation, so I'll add my observations fwiw. In my estimation, the goal of the breeders of many of the strains that we run -- is to push the genetic to express indoor friendly traits. I think a majority of hybrids or 'adapted' landrace strains, that are bred for these traits, naturally regress to their most genetically true expressions - given a short time/cloning, or a change from the original breeding environments. What we see indoors from seed, will be different from what we would see outside at it's native lattitude. :Namaste:

Gray , man, bin a while . Have ya noticed all the newbie traffic around the Gang? Great to see growers waking up and giving this method a go! They're all very welcome and i'm sure Doc is pumping out the "kits" . All great to see. Anyhow Gray , just thought i'de drop by for a visit. you continue to amaze growers around the forum with your skill....cheers my brotha!:passitleft: have an awesome week comin up pal,...cheers.

That means you got about 2.5 ounces per sqft. I get 1 ounce/sqft from my 6 gallon pots. Those azalea pots took 100 days tops? Mine typically go 140-150 days. So that's 2.5 times the yield in 2/3 of the time. :laughtwo:

It's been fun to see the steady uptake in interest over the past year. And new growers keep turning out spectacular results on their first try. That's the key to the kit in my opinion - it's really hard to screw it up! :laughtwo:

Congrats on the success with the Zamal Hash. :bravo:

Puts a lot of pressure on me not to screw up lol. Haha just kidding. It's nice for an older grower like me to get into a system that is fluid like this one. So far I find myself worrying a lot less about what I need to give the plants.

Yes Shiggs, the part i like the most is....there's absolutley NO guess work , no messin around with this or that , just great results all the time! Try and remember the "less is more" with the kit. If they look great don't feel the need to up the doses of any one Drench or foliar spray....stick close to the directions for a few grows....then start to tweek things after you have some experience and a "feel" for the "kit". Cheers Gang!

My first HB plants were fascinating to watch. I'm not the kind of person who looks for minutia and tries to makes something of it, so I didn't see overnight changes from foliars or drenches, but as the plants grew, they seemed to have some sort of extra fortification. The leaves went all glossy and firm and the posture was eager, reaching out and up ... the stems and petioles would go a pale glowing green, the branches would stiffen and thicken - they looked in prime health. I was also taking weekly Brix readings on all of them, and it was fun to watch the correlation with high Brix and perfect health.

I've grown a lot of indoor plants in my years, and this method produces plants that act like outdoor ones, at times. They'll get spurts of perfect growth. Doc Bud has an environment that can be perfectly controlled, with CO2 as well, and he's getting some outdoor results with his latest LED panels.

I'm sure that we can get the same results from other organic methods, but this one works great right out of the box. I'm reminded of machines in the gym. You can lift free weight if you want, if you know what you're doing, if you have a spotter, and you're sure your joints are properly built. Or you can use a machine to guide your movements and keep you from making a big mistake. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Thats why I am staying simple with just water and worm castings enriched soil - no foliars (except for pests) and no teas. Once I get this watering thing figured out, I might add in more sophisticated techniques.

Ok folks, I gotta nother update! :bongrip:

My setup is turning out plants on a regular basis now, running smoothly except for a growing whitefly population. The plants don't really mind them, but the little bastards are messy, etc. I've had everything on a regimen of SNS 209 in the water for a couple weeks now, but it hasn't killed 'em off for sure. I'll just have to keep working on it. Winter has been mild so far, so the room temps have been stable at 68-81 and the humidity runs 40-50.

It looks like Y Greiga is finished a week earlier than I expected. I'll be chopping her this week at about 11 weeks from the flip. I'm surprised at how frosty this plant is!

Tikal2 is doing what I expected her to do - she's on another calyx building spree, fattening up the lower buds and shooting foxtails out of the top ones. And do we see a little color in there? Ima just gonna sit back and watch awhile. :cheesygrinsmiley:

And heheh, Taskenti is a chubby little thing, isn't she? I went back and forth in veg, trying to decide when to flip this one, and now it looks like I got some good size on 'er. There still hasn't been much stretch, just 4 inches since the flip 2 weeks ago. Plenty of tops, though. :cheesygrinsmiley:

I don't have much to show in veg so I think I can squeeze it all into one post. I have Chan1 in the front at 76 days old and 15 inches tall. I could flip her this week when I chop Y Griega but I think I'll give her a little more time. In the back is Freddy's Best at 83 days and 15 inches, finally ready for some training. I'll top her and start training the side branches.
