Graytail's 3rd: 4x4, HiBrix, Latest LED Tech, Lots Of Light!

GT, what do you think did happen to the GT? Can it get that way with a foliar prematurely sprayed or a cat drench by mistake :)

I couldn't come up with a reason. :hmmmm: It was doing fine, it got a little limp, the cup was dry so I watered it ... and then it totally collapsed the next day. The pic is from the second day, all dried out. I popped the rootball out and there were some healthy tendrils down the sides ... dunno.

...I have an opening for another seed in mid-Dec ... :cheesygrinsmiley:

One plant's demise = new opportunity. Who catches your fancy Graytail? Another Golden Tiger? I'm hoping the answer is "Why yes, Susan." :laughtwo:

I'd definitely throw that cup of soil onto the pile in the back 40.

Did the stalk pull loose from the roots?

Sad to see a girl taken so suddenly
:rip:

Another week has passed and I have a bunch of new pictures! :slide:

Tikal1 turned out to be a real fatty! She's dried and jarred and yielded 102 grams, 3.6 ounces over 165 days = 0.618 grams per day. :yahoo: I didn't take pictures of the harvest but I'll get some bud pics in the natural sunshine in a few days. The bloom room in general is really performing well. I'm not getting the fade I used to get and the buds on this current crop are the best I've grown. I think the primary factors are having twice as much light (1065 vs 540 watts) :cheesygrinsmiley: and more frequent watering. Oh, and I also keep all the pots off the floor now, on short risers.

Channel+ got pulled from bloom today and I'll trim her up tomorrow. This one caught me by surprise - very very nice finish - I wasn't expecting this kind of trich density. Her cut is in veg now and looks like another great performer. I sure hope I like this strain. It's Big Bud x Skunk #1 with a 1:1 THC/CBD ratio in the mid teens. The aroma which used to be minty/piney has now gone fruity, and it looks like it may purple under the right circumstances.

I have DrGrinspoon scheduled for chop next week but she looks like she may just keep going. The blooming behavior really hasn't changed much over the past few weeks, just steadily producing new calyxes while the old pistils slowly turn brown.

Y Griega is another standout. I was expecting a leggy sativa habit, but this one not only has been a dream to grow, she's really been packin' on the trichs the past couple weeks! Her clone goes into bloom in a week or two. :slide:

Here's the first Rio clone. This is the Carnival x Utopia Haze I grew, and I'm liking the produce very much. I have this one and its sister coming later in a fabric pot, as well as a third growing up. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Here's CarnivalB, the squattier pheno. I only have 6 tops on this one so I'm not sure what to expect for yield. Her cuts took particularly well though, so this pheno will be easy to keep around.

Taskenti finally got big enough to bloom. This was a very slow one to develop, even if she's stayed beautifully healthy the entire time. I'm concerned that I won't get much stretch. She's at 15 inches now. We'll see.

This is Grieg1 in the smartie/crate. I'm not sure if I like these pots. Both this one and the Rio2 cut are in fabric pots and they both have a tendency to be limp. I'm still working out the watering cycle. These probably go dry faster, but they usually look water-logged.

In veg we have Chan1 on the left and Rio2 on the right. Rio2 will go into bloom as soon as DrG finishes in there.

Wow Graytail! Rio2 is a beast! Your bloom room is the envy of this entire site, you know that, don't you? I couldn't decide whether to cry for joy that your Land 'O Light is killing it for you or cry for us, because none of us are ever going to come anywhere near this kind of production, and I've given up on trying to sneak in the back door. :laughtwo:

Seriously Graytail, this is stunning. I couldn't be happier for you. We better see some of these girls in a contest or two mister. You have a never-ending stream going here. It's kinda scary, to be honest, and I don't have anything to be scared of because I know I can't compete in those contests yet anyway. I can only imagine what the guys with skills are feeling right now, and I'm imagining lots of sweat. LOL!

When you figure out that you grew way more than you can smoke, give me a call and I'll help out. It's the least I can do for a friend. :kisstwo:

Oh yeah, thanks for making the day complete. :hugs:

What happened to the Golden Tiger? Did it miss the memo that it was supposed to be fabulous under your care? WTH???

Manners, manners, Happy Thanksgiving Graytail. I managed to keep from overindulging this year so no sleepiness after. How was your day? I haven't had pie yet. I'm wondering if it's a side effect of eating so much cannabis plant material that I seem to have lost my taste for sweets, so the pie is sitting there looking unappetizing. This is not normal for me at all. Anybody else ever have that happen?

As I ask that it occurs to me that I may be the only one among us who eats so much of the actual plant material. The most common way to do edibles is to use butters, oils or tinctures, but I prefer to use and ingest the actual plant material. I may be an outlier on this respect. Well, the question is out there now. If anyone has any thoughts, I'm all ears. And yes, I know an aversion to sweets is a wonderful thing to discover in yourself heading into the holidays, but I'm not taking any plant material with me for the holidays, unfortunately. This is just such a curious change in my normal eating pattern that I'm wondering. I have never left the pie untouched on Thanksgiving.

I'm this long-winded and I haven't had anything to smoke at all today. Good grief, you guys don't stand a chance with me do you? :laughtwo: Love you Graytail. :hugs:

Sue,

Interested to learn about this! Do you just pop the leaves in and chew, or make salads, or what?

I'm way into nutrition, and would love to stuff some high-brix sugarmammas down if that's what's up. Jah feel? :Namaste:

Whooaaa easy there tigger!
I appreciate the support for a fellow grower, but speak for yourself:blalol:

I have big goals, only just getting started, GT Isnt inspiring me to give up on the sneaking in the back, but rather inspiring me to grow bigger and better. :Namaste:

Good to hear. My hope is that you all soar. And best of luck to you. I'll be watching those skills develop and cheering you on the same way I do Graytail. And I'll watch with interest the first time you come up against one of his long-legged beauties. Won't that be fun? :battingeyelashes:

That Channel+ looks and sounds very tasty. Good job as expected.

There must be a memo someplace, but I don't understand how to take a clone that has switched to altenate leaf growth and force a new branch.

Topping or fimming seedlings with paired leaf structure to force branching makes sense to me.
Forcing branching on a plant with alternatating leaves and branching is a mystery to me. :surrender:

Thanks in advance to anyone who can drop a link or otherwise provide direction.
:thankyou:

Morning Gray and Sue! Sue, as I've said before many times...luck...has nothing to do with how we grow our produce...absolutely nothing. Gray does SO well cuz he follows directions, has experience, and has ALOT of lite he can throw on his plants....he's doing exactly like the rest of us....luck is NOT a factor. Have a great day Gang.

Nice plants! I wish I had enough energy to manage a perpetual grow....but I'm way too LAZY!

GT and all, what is your oldest stash, and how does it smoke? I finally got some 1 year+ washed buds that I'm enjoying. The bud washing seemed to help preserve the freshness I think! The potency decreased a little, but the "smooth" factor has increased! No harsh smoke....but I mostly vaporize...

1 have 1yr plus(14-15months?) HB grown and everything since grown then too.. :)
They smoke better now than did when not as aged. But the plants now being grown have evolved a lot due to experience with the kit.
Same strains grown repeatedly are producing different and mostly better herb each grow.

Rio1 looks like a healthy fat stalk..

Nice! Looks like your having a lot of fun in the grow room.

:thanks: Rio is an interesting strain for me. I've had several accidental pollenations :laughtwo: so I'm slowly learning about breeding. Most of the crosses have been unremarkable and not an improvement on the parent strains. Even the successful S1s I got from a self-pollenated purple Panama weren't better than the parent in any way. But there's something about the Rio high that is every bit as good as the parents. Carnival is a bit like coke for me. :cheesygrinsmiley: When I'm high on Carnival I always know I'm high, and I'm always kinda anticipating the next buzz, y'know? I'm thinking "Whew! Great buzz! It'll fade in a lil bit and I'll get to top it off again! Mm hm, yup, this is good ...!" But, ahem, that keeps me pretty buzzed. Rio is more gentle about its speediness. :cheesygrinsmiley: And it's the first of the Buddha Haze crosses that has a very strong Brazilian high - a full sense of peace and ... wonder, I guess. It has a lot of "otherness" to it - that feeling of seeing things from a new perspective? I feel relieved when I smoke Rio. :slide:

I think I know what you're seeing - it's surprising how differently a seedling and a clone will grow. :cheesygrinsmiley: But it's actually a lot simpler than you're thinking. Alternating nodes are really easy to LST, since you only have one node to deal with. If you bend a paired node over, you get two shoots that each have to be stalled for the lower ones to catch up. With an alternate node, there's just one. I find it's easiest to see when the plant is about a foot tall. At that stage it usually has some scruffy lower growth, solid shoots in the middle, and explosive growth at the top. You'll find a gap between the middle and top nodes, where there's bit of a stretch. You can bend it over at that gap and still have several lower branches that are vigorous enough to catch up. You can also just hack the top off at that point and easily train the strong side shoots at that age. If you take a good look at the pics of my Chan1, you might be able to see that I recently topped her at that gap and bent the highest side shoot over. It just asked to be topped there - sort of the art of cultivation I suppose. :cheesygrinsmiley:

GT..your plants are beautiful!!!

Thanks Ziggy! I have stuff in jars from as much as two years ago. :laughtwo: The most obvious difference is the color - they all go a medium brown shade - and the texture - soft and pliable. In most cases, taste and aroma fade, but as you and Ziggy said, the buds smoke Very smoothly, and in many cases, the high is fuller and as strong as it was the first month or two of cure. I haven't seen any true deterioration. I keep mine in quart ball jars with a small Boveda 62, stored in a cool dark place. :cheesygrinsmiley:

I would never suggest that the wonder that grows in Graytail's garden has anything to do with luck Duggan. Skill, good soil maintenance and light we all dream of. I'm pretty sure I was clear about that. :battingeyelashes:
