Granny420 Grows Multiple Strains In Soil Using ViparSpectra XS1500 And Vivosun Tents

Welcome home, Granny! Looks like a lovely place you visited.

How are you liking the swick bases? I've got some but have only used them once. Knowing what I now know, I wish I had bought the larger ones (2 gallon capacity).

Fantastic pictures Granny. Glad you had a great get away. Oh and the ladies are looking fabulous. Great job!
:thanks: Rosey Man! :high-five: It’s so great to see you!
Your tent is going to be full!! They are looking really nice in there.
Also love the mountain goats!! I used to see them in UT when I skied at Alta/Snowbird, they were always on the cliffs at the mouth of the canyon. How great to get to see them close up!
:thanks: Stone! :high-five: LOL, we weren’t sure what they were, we called them mountain “sheep” and we knew that didn’t sound quite right! We knew they weren’t big horns at least!
Welcome Home! ❤

Your plants are doing Great!

My house backs to a sizable wooded area, which provides too much shade for my tent, but we ❤️ sitting on the deck watching the wildlife!

Looks like you had the Perfect spot!
:thanks: MedSci! :high-five: You are so blessed to get to watch the wildlife from your home! We prefer cabins in wooded areas, but this was truly a wonderful in-small-town home and the trail was an added blessing!

:thanks:GDB!:high-five: I can’t say yet how I like the swick bases cuz I don’t think they even swicked any water. I’ve never used them before and didn’t get to test them for functionality before we left. I barely had time to get the girls transplanted. I watered from above on all with the transplant and then filled the bases. I’ll let you know down the road tho!

Gosh it’s so great to see each of you! I can’t wait to catch up on everyone’s journals, but have to finish getting my girls set up first. I didn’t get any vents going in this tent, nor did I have time to lst all of them before we left. I’ve pretty much missed being able to quad these girls and I dont have enough room in this tent to grow huge girls… so I’m probably going to go 12/12 fairly soon. I will continue to quad the one BBC I kept for cloning.

I have to get a carb scrubber going, vents, probably switch the lighting to (4) viper spectra 1500 pros instead of this KS5000, cuz it looks like there are going to be different heights cuz I wasn’t here to lst and now stems are too thick and tent is too full… but will have at least four colas (very minimal quad) on each girl, so a sort of a mini quad maxi SOG! A COD, as GDB says! It’s all good, just gotta get it all working! I’ve got some figuring out to do and now am not feeling rushed.

I just have to say tho, that the best part of our trip was enjoying each other. My hubby is my soul mate. I would be lost without him and my life would not be fulfilled without our family. Just enjoyed riding the back trails in the hills with my guy. Was a wonderful trip.

Now back to work!

Lovies to all!!!
:hug::hug::hug::love::circle-of-love::love::hug::hug::hug:

I don't think it is too late to Quadline, just pinch the stems a little and bend them over! Dang, Now I am starting to talk like Trala!

❤️❤️❤️
:high-five:MedSci! Yeah, I gotta get in there to see what I can do for Quadlining in the bigger tent still. I got interrupted today and only got the smaller tent done. Pinch and bend, Trala is right! LOL

QUAD UPDATE:

I did get to continue a qood quadline on Blueberry Cheese #1. Before I left, I transplanted her into a 5g pot and started tying her 4 tops down, letting her insides fill in. And yes, it was gentle pinch and bends. :) When I got home, she looked like this…
IMG_5076.jpeg

You can see she is continuing a really nice quad with her cross shape, but now growing out super nicely in the center with at least eight more possible tops filling in the middle.

From the side, you can see I lst’d her original four tops with clothes line (bends easy and holds good) and office binder clips. That’s how I secured all four tops to the side of the pot, opening up the center.
IMG_5074.jpeg

From the side above, you can see how the growth in the middle is growing upward. But those original four tied down tops will always work real hard to stay on top, so today I adjusted them to slightly lower than that center growth, making it look like this from the side now …
IMG_5092.jpeg

Leaving the center growth slightly higher than those four tops. The purpose for me is to keep those multiple center tops fairly even across so they can all grow up to be nice colas instead of just the four outer tops. Keeping those four outer tops tied a bit lower than the center allows them all to stay fairly even. Hope that makes sense.

Many of the pro quadders continue this to get a whole lot more top colas than I will do - and they use larger pots which allows a much larger plant. I don’t have the room to continue to those size plants. But you can see at this stage I have gone from one initial top, to four, and now adding eight more, making 12 tops from what was once just one. This is the main basics of a quad (I think)🤔.

But there is more… removing under growth that won’t amount to much anyway is another part. In this next pic, I tried to show a growth sprouting on the underside of a stem…
IMG_5079.jpeg

You can see the growth that started downward and is having to work to curve back upward for light. These growths are removed in quading. I will be removing these but I want more clones so I will let them grow just a bit bigger before taking.

CLONE UPDATE:

And on to the two little clones I took. They have both rooted, one growing roots into the bottom wicking system, the other not as many roots. Both were transplanted today into 3g fabric pots. Both have yellowed leaves, so they will now have to grow better root systems to survive. I only watered directly around these babes to encourage root growth. I also added myco+ to the root area when transplanting, hoping to help them.

Here are the Blueberry Cheese clones today…

Looking like a pro there Granny! You are one busy grower, and about to get busier with all you have going on.
BTW, congrats on the GJOTM nomination!

💕

They look fantastic. You are doing a sterling job and the detail of the training is great:high-five:
:thanks: So much Carmen! :high-five:You are too kind, honey. Flying’ by the seat of my pants! :cheesygrinsmiley:

:thanks: So much Lady! :high-five: I’ve missed you! We were in your shower last time I think I got to visit with you!:rofl::laugh:

AND WHAT??? GJOTM nomination??? Who did dat??? I haven’t even gotten one single plant to harvest and I have used GDB’s COD (Change Of Direction) multiple times in here! I am in shock. I humbly thank whomever nominated this journal. It truly is an honor to be nominated. Due to the reasons I mentioned and more screwups in here, I highly doubt I will win, but thank you so very much for this honor.

I’ll be figuring out how to find out who did this and there will be some huggin, lovin, high fivein and some smoke signals going off when I do!!!!

Dang… I’m still shocked and tears are rolling for some really good reason. I got on here to update and have lost my entire train of thought. 420Magazine is such a wonderful place.:circle-of-love::love:

Okay…

UPDATE:

Let’s see, all 9 of the Fat Bastards sprouted from seed on September 7th, making this Day 48 of their life. The 3 Blueberry Cheese rose 5 days later, so Day 43. These are the 12 girls in this 5’x5’ Vivosun tent. The 3 BBC are in the front row with orange tags, all in 3g pots. You can also clearly see there are height differences I will have to deal with.
IMG_5097.jpeg

All plants had a mini quad started, so many have 4 tops for growing colas. Four FBs are in 5g pots and I did try to lst them before I left, but they aren’t cooperating quite as nicely as the BBC in my other tent. And they are taking up more than their share of space. Below are pics of 3 of the 4 I pinched and retied today - they will just have to grow out from here.

Next here is a pic of two shorter 4-top girls, 1 FB and 1 BBC.

And a pic of the taller FB girl in The back row.

And a number of the girls are showing lots of preflowers…

And the welcome visitor in the tent…

I had the ViparSpectra KS5000 light set on 50% while we were gone but have turned it up to 75% and today upped it to 100% just to see how the plants react. I will be switching these girls to 12/12 soon. I’m not sure if I’m going to keep this light in here or if I’m going to change out to using 4 ViparSpectra XS1500 Pro lights. Will just take it one day at a time and see how the girls react.

I’m not liking the AC Infinity swicking bases yet. Mainly they have been a pain in the ass to move so I can get to various plants in the back as well as just moving plants is difficult. I can’t feel the fabric pots getting moist on the bottom and don’t see that much water has been used either, but I haven’t watered any of them since getting home and they were real good while I was gone. The wicks are wet at the bottom of the pot, but I can’t tell much else. I’m just watching my girls to see if they ever get thirsty! LOL

I think I’m done with this update! I’m still in shock that this journal was even nominated for GJOTM. Thank you so very much to whomever did this! One of these days I will get back in to everyone’s journals to catch up! I feel so out of the loop, but WILL get time soon!!!

Lovies and happy trails to each of you!!!

Congrats on the nomination Granny!

Watch out for potential calcium deficiency with these swicks. To my knowledge, swicks require top feeding with calcium to avoid a deficiency. According to Gee, calcium is heavy and it sinks to the bottom, so it isn't going to be taken up by the plant unless it is fed from the top.

I am by no means a swick expert, but I have followed a few and grown a few and that has been my experience, so my tip of the day is to just keep an eye out 👁️ Nowadays I am behind the times with swicking. There've been advances and more people have taken to swicking with the interest that is developing around sub-irrigation methods. They've all left me in the dust but I learnt the hard way about the calcium so I share :cheer:

It sounds and looks like your plants are loving the swicks even if you are not

Your plants are coming along nicely Granny!

I have some thoughts on the swick bases if you're interested. However, since you haven't asked for any suggestions, I will not presume you desire any.

My acronym is COP Granny, for "Change of Plans." But yours is just as good or better! :Rasta:

:thanks: Sweet Carmen! :high-five:I will make sure to feed calcium from above. Love the advice! Thank you very much. I’m not sure I’m going to keep the swicking bases on - they are making it very difficult to get to all my plants and that will only get worse as the plants grow upwards with stretching. I may just leave them on a few to continue to test them and take the rest out. They are truly a pain in this small area with so many plants. Plus, they need to be cleaned every two weeks and that will be a bigger pain. I love the thought that I can use them if I need to be gone tho.
Garden's awesome today Granny! Congratulations on the nom!
:thanks: Otter! :high-five:You are so kind! I’ve missed you!

:thanks: GDB!:high-five: You silly man, I am ALWAYS interested in advice or thoughts! I’m really wanting to remove most of the bases. Don’t know if I’m even using them correctly, if they are working, or if I’m doing something wrong - and they are a pain in my ass at this point! PLEASE always speak up dear man (or anyone!)!

And oops! LOL I got the COP/COD wrong, so I’m sure there are lots of things I have wrong! :cheesygrinsmiley: I love 420 because it is the BEST place to gain knowledge and there are such wonderful ppl here, like you, who are willing to help.

So for ALL, please speak up! I am NOT a pro at growing and I’m always willing to learn. Always.

QUESTION:
I am wanting to switch to 12/12. I know the stretch will take these girls upward in a hurry. I don’t have a very tall tent, so I’m not sure of when to make the change. The tallest FB in this tent (17”) certainly does not have room to double or triple it’s height… but it’s only one plant and I feel my other girls, especially those I have tied down, could ?maybe? use more time to veg upward before switching them. The shorter girls, including those I have tied down, are mostly 10”-11”average but a number are 13”-14” tall. Thus, I feel I’m close, but not sure.
What do you all think?

Don't let height get in the way. @Carcass has taught me an awesome was to keep em low. I’d be happy to share.

As my ole nan used to say “long and thin might be in, but short an thick does the trick”

(SHORT AND THICK) UPDATE: LOL!

Oh my, I’m gonna chuckle about that all day!

Okay, I’m gonna keep ‘em low, as Trala (and @Carcass) suggest… but I’d bet money that some do not get the memo! Would love to read any info you want to share too, Trala!

SWITCHED TO 12/12
Today, the (9) Fat Bastards are Day 50 from seed and the Blueberry Cheese are Day 45 from seed.
They did need watered yesterday and I removed the swicking bases. What a wonderful difference on navigating this number of plants in that small area now! Here are these girls this morning…

IMG_5109.jpeg

I’m pretty sure I will have to move some to elsewhere when they grow, but that’s a great problem to have if I do. Definitely gonna have a full tent no matter what!

Hope everyone is having a super spectacular Sunday! May you all be blessed with good health, happy smiles, tears of joy, and gloriously green girls!
Lovies!

Looking perfect in there Granny :thumb:

I’m pretty sure I will have to move some to elsewhere when they grow,
Hi, Granny, Thanks for the tag!- if you're going to train them low, they'll also need a bit more width than usual...if you can limit them to 20-22" wide, you might be able to squeeze 4 into a 4x4, but it's going to get pretty tight in there toward the end..
How tall are they now? it may be a few weeks late to do the "low" thing on a few of them, but there's always supercropping...which I hate to do, but sometimes, there's no other choice-

I don't think they could be any healthier- you've got some real beauties there!👍

Your grow looks really great :)
