Grandpa's Second Try - Come Join Us!

Good morning to everyone! Hope you all had a great night and good sleep. We have a change of plans...
Toasty has stepped up to the plate... Again! He has offered to send us some of the Kind soil! So, we will be using that for the photo(s). The Autos will be put into CL with a layer of the old build of soil that we have left. Should make some interesting comparisons. Everything else will remain the same.

I kinda lost track on every journal during the holidays... and then I see This! Awesome toasty for stepping Up like that, you truely are a beautifull spirit!

Grandpa, What Goes around comes around. You Defineatly got Some good karma in stock eh? It was time for you and the fam to get Positive vibes after What you have been true. Enjoy the soil and I am Sure you Will grow Some monster medicine.

Well... one distributes the Osmo thru the medium, and when one combines that with the ideas of water motility caused by evaporation off the top, I think you can begin to imagine the simple wicking process in play.
In my mind, and when I peek at the roots after harvest, I can easily imagine a very even nutrient level thru the entire medium.
Of note for this conversation, I would point to the fact that the roots in the bottom 'res' area area exactly the same as the roots in all the other parts of the medium.

... or get some perlite, osmocote+ and grow some pretty ladies without dealing with soil and nutrients.

Ha.... I was gonna put a photo here. This is just SO fun!

Tead's been growing for many, many years using Hempy pots. This is a very simple drain to waste hydro method. It avoids all the normal hydro dances with tanks and pumps... just a simple pot with a hole about 2" up from the bottom, filled with an Osmocote+ and perlite mix. Watered every few days with plain water... tho I use 1/8tsp PH down and 10 milliliters of CalMag (calcium and magnesium supplement).
Pretty easy... easy as soil in my humble opinion. Give you the speed of growth seen in hydro growing coupled with the ease of a soil grow.

2 cents straight outta The Big Easy for ya to chew on this morning.

Nah, I am good brother Tead......I will always be a soil guy. I love getting my hands dirty.

I think hempy would be a fairly interesting option for gramps as well as growing in a water only soil. I was recommending the KindSoil from an overall ease of use for someone like Gramps that may or may not have some physical ailments that would make anything other than adding water difficult to accomplish. He would literally only need to transplant once and everything else would be just watering every few days. Nothing else to buy....no nutes....no perlite to rinse and clean afterwards....just plant and water.

Wait... Only one transplant? So, I am now assuming that I can go from cup straight to final container? I have to admit, I like that, if I'm understanding it correctly.

I went from starter cup (smaller than solo), into a 3 gallon bucket. Tead and Bobbrown are the two laziest gardeners I know..... they both do really well! But if the soil gardening isn't working how you want it, it may be worth giving hempy a go. The osmo perlite does well. If the set up is something that may give you issues I can look into sending you a container and perlite.

Don't you dare!
Tead luvs to do the hempy introductions. Hell... I'll send him a pre-loved (i.e. many plants grown in it) pot filled with perl and Osmo+ if he'll allow me. Plus, I ship them sans wrapping or boxing... just a 6" PVC tube filled with perl and Osmo capped on the ends.... write the addy on the tube and deliver it to the P.O.

Steppin on my toes baby!

Me???? Never! Hahahaaha. That would be so cool of you tead!!! I dont have osmo so I'd have to buy some just for them. But I think your PVC is the best way to do do a perlite hempy. Remember I have coco in mine....

Well this may be a great solution to grandpas grow! I was really rather optimistic about build a soil .. But we may have another hempy convert!

Oooo.....Grandpa, you're considering hempy with Osmo? I did what I considered very well with the Osmo girls. Half my garden is hempy, although I now use bottled nutrients to grow the beauties I do. The bottle of Osmo sits there on the counter tempting me to give it another go.

It doesn't get any easier than the Osmo hempy. Or less expensive, apparently. Get those prills distributed correctly and you get lovely ladies with absolute minimal effort. Nothing but pH-corrected water.

I tried to go all hempy, but Doc Bud's kit performs too wonderfully to leave it behind.

So is this just a temptation, or is this a possibility? I'm getting ready to introduce a friend and her husband to the wonders of cannabis cultivation, and I'm bringing them in through the hempy doorway. How easy it this?

Well I am toying with a few different ideas I like for you (I try to imagine myself in your shoes and how would it be the absolute easiest for you to get from point A to harvest).

First my thought is if you are in soil, you don't want huge pots to deal with. So that means keeping you in 2 or 3 gallon pots. If we keep you in the 2-3 gallon range, you could probably start your seeds in a slightly bigger container than a solo cup. I have some in mind (I use them for my tomato plants) and I think they would allow you about 3 weeks of growing before you would need to transplant up to the 2-3 gallon pots. You could give them a week or so for the roots to get set and then flip. You could grow 2 good sized plants from a bag of Kindsoil (or any other legit water only soil).

I think you could probably amend used soil with a couple simple amendments and do another grow with that amended soil which would greatly reduce your basic expense. I know it might be a little bit of work, mixing a bit of soil in a 5 gallon bucket, but it would enable you to greatly reduce your growing expenses. If your health conditions are acting up, you might not be able to do that mixing (its not hard, but I just don't know how debilitating things get for you).

Here is a link of the little pots I use for my tomatoes and other veggies that i start in the spring. I think they would be perfect for you so that you would only need to up-pot one time.

Thanks a lot for that offer, MD. We already have this next run set up, but I would be appreciative of any research on the subject while we're doing this grow . That way, I have a working knowledge of what I would be going into. Keep that thought about the perlite and bucket! You never know, I may take you up on it. Thanks again! God bless! 😁

Wow, T! That is a unique and obviously quite successful packaging method. I'll thank you for the offer, and we can definitely talk aboutit. I pity the fool that steps on Mr. T's toes! . :young-plant:

Hiyas Sue! Yes, I am seriously considering it. Shoot, if I decide to, I may just put another photo in a hempy as described by y'all, and see what happens. It would be a great comparison to the soil, I am o. I have always been open to new ideas and methods. Whether with sight or without. And... Right now, we're looking for something that we can be consistently successful with. With you not only supporting but using this method, that speaks a lot for it. Thanks for chiming in! God bless! :namaste:

All of that sounds simply awesome! I think what I might do, is go ahead and use the kind for a photo, and a hempy for another, and see what happens. Regardless, we will be placing an auto in the CL with the buildasoil at the bottom. As I said to sue, the goal now is exactly what all of you are doing. Find a medium that we can use to grow consistently and successfully. I want to thank you again for all the effort you put forward. Mixing soil should not be a problem, except that I'll never know if I have an inconsistent mix. By doing this, it will be a good experiment for other blind people who need simple and easy methods of cultivation for their own meds. Not only blind people, but also those with other disabilities that preclude being able to physically 10 theie girls on a daily basis.
