Beautiful day here. Still too chilly at night for garden stuff, but within the next week or two I’ll have everything started for the outdoor vegetables, fruits, and the Auto flowers. I’ll start cleaning out the greenhouse for all the starts today. I love this time of year.
One year ago today was only 3 days after my open heart surgery. I could barely move and was still in the hospital. I was optimistic about my recovery at that time, but also on heavy medication. I had no idea the amount of pain that was about to be unleashed upon my delicate little body...
They told me if I could make it around the ward 4 times, I could go home. Well shit...hold my beer! Heck, that’s all they had to say. It took everything within me, but I walked around that ward 5 times...with a walker, a nurse, oxygen, and opiates. It literally almost killed me, but I felt like a champion. All the nurses came out to give me high-fives...you would’ve thought I just finished a marathon...trust me, it was. I knew then that I had to keep pushing.
Today, things are vastly different. At 0700 I started my upper body resistance workout (6 sets for each body part utilizing progressive overload):
1. Abs
2. Chest
3. Back
4. Shoulders
5. Triceps
6. Biceps
That took 52 minutes. Immediately after I jumped on the treadmill with a 3.5% incline and 3.2 mph (often bumping up to 3.5 mph for a minute or two) for 40 minutes. That puts me at ~6500 steps and ensures I will reach my secondary goal of getting a minimum of 8000 steps per day—on top of the workout. (While in Vegas I didn’t miss a workout either. Caesars Palace has a wonderful gym. My wife and I were averaging 22,000 steps per day plus working out.)
So, what’s the moral of the story?
Get off the fucking couch beeyotch! That is all. Enjoy!
