Grandpa Gets Oily! Everclear Extracts For Shatter Or Oil!

Would isopropyl not be ok? Or is there a reason youre using pure grain alcohol?

ISO is okay, it’s what I started with. You get a better taste and higher alcohol % with the grain. If you use ISO just get the highest you can. You’re probably looking at 70% as the highest you can find there. The higher the alcohol content the better extract.

I can get hold of 99.9 percent pretty easy if that helps? But Ill keep looking for a decent grain alternative

Oh snap! If you can get 99% it’ll work well, but just make sure it’s evaporated/purged well.

morning gramps T, I'm getting pretty excited, putting plans in action for later this year to get oily, just with it being almost winter not many offers for bikini wrestling....lol ( no offence ladies ).....

@Bilbobudkin420, I lived in Wishaw near Birmingham running a pub there as assistant manager for a cpl years before moving back to South Africa and made some lovely Polish mates while there..:passitleft:smokers all of us....lol and I was in my 20's.......haha

Now Bacardi is probably the strongest but the polish have a vodka that is almost 99 proof that is distilled throughout Poland ( home brews ) and I've had the pleasure of sampling many many varieties over a 10 year period and I'm still healthy and Poland is still standing........

So if you have any polish friends find out if they know of anyone who produces in Poland and to get you some on their next trip home........:thumb:

Ye I got a couple eastern european buddies. Good shout.

99% and 99 Proof are two different animals. 99% is 198 Proof. 99 Proof is 49.5%. Interesting read on the "proof" concept. It goes way back and has to do with whether gunpowder when wetted with alcohol will still burn. I'll leave you to do the research. So much better than being spoon fed.

Another question (sorry). If im using trim does it have to be dried then frozen? I know theres a good reason behind freezing it (somethjng to do with chlorophyll i think) but do I need to dry it first?

No. I put all my trim in the freezer immediately. Fresh frozen is the best and easiest IMO, for extracting this way. Drying it just allows more trichomes to fall off prior to extraction.

Good point Rider. You’re like half an encyclopedia...

If it comes down to it you could distill your own, or use a different solvent.

To distill your own, you need a reflux column on your still. That will allow 180 proof / 90%
I got family who f*** about with scrumpy (strooong cloudy apple cider). Could ask them to try whip something up with grain. I wouldnt trust myself lol. Bilbo be left in a crater.

You could do it with a pot still. You would just have to run it thru 4-5 times to get 190 plus proof. I get 165-170 proof running thru 3 times with mine. I would make sure that you only use hearts as the nasties in heads and tails wouldn't be good for ya.

The simplest recipe for your mash is 1lb sugar, and 1lb cracked corn to 1 gal of water. Add some yeast, brewers is best, but the stuff for baking will work. You'll just not be able to increase the alcohol content of the mash above about 18% for the first batch. You can return the water from the still back into your mash once it has cooled, and add sugar for the next batch. You won't need to add yeast, as there should be enough left mixed in with the corn. The yeast will mutate, and you can get a higher alcohol content in your mash. I got it up to 25% with this technique.

You can smell and taste the nasties in your heads and tails. If you recycle your mash, the amount of hearts goes up, as heads and tails will decrease.

I made my own stills long ago. The boiler for the first was a new propane cylinder. Picture that on the propane stove I used for a heater ;) The second was a hot water heater that I modified to use the control of a stove. The condenser, well take a look:

This is my BioFuel reactor, essentially the same as a still, but used to turn cooking oil into BioDiesel. The condenser is for methanol recovery.
