Grand Daddy Purple S1 & Pre-1998 Bubba Kush S1

Man Chimp things are looking good in here. Look at all that color! It looks like both s1 plants have got some purple to them now. Hopefully that trait remains going into s2. :thumb: Its kind hard to tell in th pics by it looks like just about all of the plants in this journal have some purple to em. That pre 98 looks to be adding on some weight! :high-five:

I'm curious a to why you have so many different grow areas. Is it just so that you can always have a variety going on? It seems to really work for you I'm just surprised you choose to do it this way instead of just a large veg area and large flower area.

It makes sense it just seems like a lot to maintain and keep track of. I feel I would forget things and ends up neglecting them haha.

After you harvest your seeds how long until you do an s2 grow? And do you plan on taking them to s3 or calling it good at that point?

That's the #1 reason I wind up effin' 'em up :) It's hard to keep committed to memory which watering or feeding happened and when.

I'm starting CC's Girl Scout Cookies next, and I've been pondering those questions myself.
The first question: I've added air circulation to my grow units (cooling the light reflectors left my grow areas too damp all the time and too hot in the Summer). But I'm still not sure if it's enough, so I'm planning Sativa dominant strains for the Summer. I might just go straight ahead with it or I might just wait until around August.
The second question: I read once that taking a hybrid to S5 basically stabilizes it enough to breed with, which is how far I'm going to self it. I'll have my two Chem D projects ready to cross with it by then.

Ya I feel like I would lose track and end up double feeding things or completely forgetting to do so. It's makes sense to hold off on running them until it's more suitable for them. It will be interesting to see what traits you get locked down by the time you hit S5. I'm hoping you get the purple and the frost locked in :thumb:. The question is what will you do with all the seeds you don't need from S1 to S4 :cheesygrinsmiley:

Whacked 'er yesterday! :)

Okay now look at post #129 pics 2 or 3, then look at this topped S1 of that same plant:

0022777.JPG

Nope
Untopped S1 of that same plant:

Nope. And don't look the same as its Sister either.

I just can't capture the frost on this but I'm so glad all the clones are alive :) Mendocino x Purple Kush (you can really see the Purple Kush in the lower buds):

Turns out it doesn't smell like grape bubble gum it was the combination of it and the sour berry smellin' SLH x Blueberry cross behind it. This Mendocino x Purple Kush pheno smells really floral.
Pre '98 Bubba Kush (the last two pics were taken too close):

You can see the color change in it. I'm thinkin' it's the last week here.

If it's not now it'll be soon, but the time's coming where I'll break off from buying other people's seed stock. Just grow these seeds 'til they're gone and then S6 the best specimen I have to get more.
It makes sense that with all the breeding you have been doing that you would be working towards having you own seed stash to run off of and no longer have to rely on buying others genetics. It seems like a solid plan :thumb:

To me the topped S1 seems to have a similar bud structure as the clone plant you just chopped. The biggest difference seems to be color. The clone plant was a really nice deep purple where as the S1 looks like it has some color it does not look to be nearly as dark. The lighting may have something to do with that.

After you harvest your S2 seeds will you keep them separated based off of the plant they came from so that you can choose which traits you want to work with? (Or at least try to?)
I guess selfed seed plants aren't exact copies of the plants they come from. At least not in the first generation.

The next grow I do of these is going to be of the 3 different mothers, so I need to sort the seeds according to which plant they came from. :thumb:
My guess on the differences is that the seeds I purchase from seedbanks aren't stable, so S1'ing them leads to variations of the donor plant (instead of an exact copy).
I think I should be okay as far as not losing the purple from the looks of the main S2 mother plant:

The clone from the original isn't as purple as the one I just chopped:

0022779.JPG

Here's the third mother; the CS treated plant. It seems to have some color to it also:

I just hope I don't lose the stoned trait along the way to S5!

Is the main S2 mother plant the same as the topped S1? There is a good amount of purple on it. It does look like you may have color locked in for the time being. It would be good to not lose the high either though. It would be disappointing to lose either one as u go.

I would have to agree that seedbank genetics tend to be unstable. I feel it varies from breeder to breeder. I have seen some strains be pretty consistant where as others are all over the place. I think some breeders just rush strains out to either expand their catalogue or to keep up with hot strains. Money is obviously a major motivator in any business but there are some that only care about money instead of genetic integrity.

No, I have four S1s growing right now. Two of them are in a locker with a clone from the original plant I S1'ed. I treated the one S1 plant with CS and put the other S1 plant in with it (the one that's dark purple). The other two (I call them the topped and untopped S1s) are under a 600 watt HPS in a tent.

I picture myself getting about 3 or 4 years in on a breeding project, getting the strain stable so all the offspring are the same, and getting lucky too; it's great pot, then tossing somebody a few beans in friendship, seeing my strain out there later, and the guy I put the seeds out to getting rich while he's lying through his teeth about who really did the work. :( I'm almost positive that's why they don't put the good stuff out there.

That's a pretty bleak outlook on things Chimp. I can see why though with how a lot of people can be. Just be sure to market your seeds first before you give any to anyone... or give them s1 or s2 beans :cheesygrinsmiley:

Mendocino x Purple Kush - total of 121 days, 9 weeks and 2 days from flip running at 11.5/12.5, and..... you guessed it, CHIMPA CHOPPA CHUNGA!!!!!

The smell is floral with a hint of citrus and it trims up nice and easy; quick too. A good yielder; I needed that I'm almost outta dope! :jawdropper:
