Grand Daddy Black Grows A Stack

Hell grow gang!

One of my statements from yesterday:
They'll likely come down tomorrow Carcass. Should be a painless trim! :)
That was not one of my "official" predictions but it may as well had been, because like nearly all of my "official" predictions it was wrong, wrong, wrong.

Turns out that this foxtaily plant was a true PITA to trim. I didn't take all three plants down and it was not painless! I took down one of the three today and it took much longer than expected.

She was a sticky one and that's one of the reasons things were so frustrating.

First, most of the fans were brown and crispy hard. That's great if you can grab 'em and pull the whole thing out cleanly. But if it breaks off when you try to pull it out (as many did), well that's different. Then you got little bits of hard brown leaves wedged deep between colas/foxtails. I had to separate a lot of stuff with my gloved fingers in order to get the snippers in deep enough to cut away what remained of the brown fan leaves. Then, to make matters worse, I'd think I had cut away all the little brownies only to look and the finished product and notice that a lot of the little pieces I cut away were still stuck to the sticky flowers. Luckily I have a cannabis brush that performed really well at brushing away all those little flakes. (@InTheShed @StoneOtter)

Here she is laid out after takedown:
CL clone1 10-3-24 END array.JPG

All three plants are about the same size so I weighed this one to get some idea of what the total haul will be. She's 253g wet and with branches still attached.
CL clone1 10-3-24 END 253g wet.JPG

So I'll likely get in the neighborhood of maybe 6+ ounces from all three combined.

I'm going to keep the other 2 going until I can smoke that tester that I cut off yesterday. If that tester doesn't give me a reason to be optimistic about this outcome, I'll take much less care in trimming the two that remain! :Rasta:

nice looking bud nothing wrong with that !! Where them fairy tails ~~ 🐉
Thanks for asking Smoke.

I'll be posting an update on the Fairy Tails this evening. Stay tuned.

Congrats on the chop GDB, my seismograph did not move so no flop i'm guessing

It's easy to tell how much work was involved with just a glance at the scissors off to the left. Well done getting through all that and I hope it makes it worth your while in the end!
Thanks Shed. My Lazy-Meter mumbled profanities throughout the process, but it didn't set off the big alarms! :)

Ha! She would have had I untied her con! In fact it would have been a leaning flop. 😁

Hey, you are pretty good at trimming what are you doing later. Nice job your bud looks great. 🍋
That's one great pick-up line Keith. Stick with it! 😁

Thanks for the kind words, dude!

Nice harvest, GDB - Excellent trim job, too👍
Then you got little bits of hard brown leaves wedged deep between colas/foxtails.
I got that on my indoor Wookiee- what a pain! ....most of it is still there...😐

I scrape that off and smoke it as I go...
probably why I'm so damn slow...

Thanks Carcass.

Yeah, a real pain getting down in there and the scissors do get gummed up quickly. And yes, if you take some off and fire it up it usually slows you down. (oops!) :)

I don't know but sounds like your bitching about gummy/sticky/ weed LOL I know they can be a pain but well worth it in the end..
Ha! Not complaining Smoke, just describing what went down!

A few plants ago I was talking about how a plant I was taking down was not very sticky at all.

Then I was complaining! :)

Brushing is going to be my next big thing. I left tons of sugar leaves on Muffy! Glad to hear it worked for ya! Those buds look great!

Hello all!

It's been a minute since I've talked about Stella, the solitary backyard plant.

She's doing okay, I guess. Me, I'm a little stressed about her -- just a little! 🤏

What's bothering me (and has been for some time) is the plastic pot Stella's growing in. The soil in that dang pot never seems to dry! At times during her time in that pot, I've gone as long as 8 days without watering her. The very top area of the soil will dry but deep underneath seems to always be moist.

This is making me nervous. I'm using FOOP liquid organic nutrients. FOOP advises to dose plants at least once a week but no more than 3 times a week. Well, if I can only water the plant about every 7-8 days how often should I feed?

I chose to give her FOOP with every watering. But, the recent appearance of several jacked-up looking leaves leads me to believe she's not getting enough. If she's not getting enough nutrition is it due to not being fed often enough or due to overly wet soil inhibiting nutrient uptake. Or are the funky leaves related to something else -- bugs or fungi, maybe? Stella has me thinking too much! I try to conserve my thinking cells for the important stuff, like deciding what to cook for dinner.

And as if these concerns weren't enough, I'm also bummed because Stella keeps getting rained on. And how in the hell is that pot ever going to get dry if I keep letting her get caught in downpours!?

The most recent was this past Wednesday morning. I was awakened around 5:30am by the sound of a steady rain hitting the streets. At first I was pleased. (I had recently decided that I was giving up on the FOOP for this grow. More about that in a minute.) But within about 10 minutes the steady rain turned into a violent downpour, the likes of which pounds a petite plant like Stella quite harshly.

So I dragged my ass out of bed a little before 6am to step out into a cold, hard rain and move Stella under the steps at the back of my house, sheltered from the deluge. I went back to my bedroom soggy and mumbling. Mrs.GDB just shook her head while giving me "that look."

Now, back to giving up on the FOOP. It's no reflection on the performance of the brand. I just don't think I'm using it under the right circumstances (the plastic pot). IMO, I can't water the plant often enough to be confident that she's being adequately fed.

That's why I was pleased the other night when I heard the rain. Earlier that same day I had mixed 3 tablespoons each of EWC and Roots Organic dry Bloom nutrients. and raked it into the top of Stella's soil. My "plan" was to let that get watered in with the next rain. (We've got rain predicted for about 4 of the next 7 days.)

Needless to say, the dry nutrients got watered in, and then some!

This morning -- still hangdog but trying to straighten up:

As I see it, there's one more problem relating to that perpetual moisture in her pot. We're hardly getting any sunshine! Just one cloudy day after another.

(I hear you outdoor growers making fun of me for being such a whiney-poo! 😁)

I jumped back in here after my break based on an email, I know I’ve missed a ton, but if you haven’t heard this already, why not just poke a number of drain holes in the side of the pot? It’s easy to do to large plastic pots without disturbing the roots. Just use a drill with like a half inch or so circular attachment piece. Careful get it close and punch some holes. Instant outdoor AirPot. Bad idea?

NOT a bad idea Jon. Just a late idea. :thanks:

Hello folks and Happy Sunday!

Sundays, for the most part, are going to be my posting days for a while.

I've been sitting here watching my rejuvenated football team and trying to trim the 2nd Cosmic Lights clone. The CLs are a true pain to trim. I was moaning about how difficult it is when I decided to return here and see some of your new posts.

Great timing! I found out that @Waywardwayne is in the middle of a trim that immediately muffled my complaining Lazy-Meter!

I can no longer whine about this :):

I used to think the ones in the box were a pain to trim, then I trimmed those 3 big ones, and came to the same conclusion as you...anything that takes less than 4 hours to trim has now been upgraded to a "piece of cake";)

I barely made it. Glad I wasn’t alone in my efforts today. No job too big or small, looks great!

All cleaned up and hung. I am yet too weak to post the finished update. And still a plant to chop.
