Grand Daddy Black Grows A Stack

Hello all.

I had planned to transplant the smaller FKC clone and get her outside today to start the hardening process. But I'm having a very lazy Saturday morning. Plus I toked on some THC Bomb from 2022 this morning and that made me even lazier!

So I gave the little plant a nice spray of SNS PC, stuck the plant's solo in a small plastic pot and put her outside under the shade of two hosta plants that sit on each side of her.

I'll get her transplanted later on today after this Bomb that I smoked is diffused! :ganjamon:

Do you get enough sun there to put it in the ground?
Not even enough. That's her hardening spot. There, she'll get a few hours of sun in the morning then mostly shade.

BTW, I have no idea what I'm doing! 😁

Look the fact you planted her above ground in a larger pot filled with air sort of spoke volumes.

If I may be so bold, and I’m no horticulturist but I find plants grow best when you place them in a freshly dug hole.

I can draw you a diagram if that would help.

I'm bent over laughing, Tra!

She will be fine watch and see. 🍋
Thanks Keith!

The shoe is on the other foot now. I'm relying on your know-how to bring this little one to a happy ending! :Rasta:

You are doing it right harden her off shade at first. I would not leave her too long in the sun the first day. My back porch as rough as it looks is the best spot I find some sun if I put them out at the right time mostly shade in the afternoon. 🍋

Hello all!

I'm back with another update on my little outdoor project.

After a somewhat lazy start this morning to getting the little FKC outdoors and hardening, I've made some progress during the day!

I've been sitting on my back porch a lot today, watching my little FKC sitting out in the back yard with tons of bugs around flying and her only protection being the SNS PC spray that I gave her before evicting her. And she's so small!

This feelings is much more stressful than when I recently took another plant to a remote location to be grown outdoors. That plant was damn near 2 feet tall and seemed a lot more likely to withstand whatever the outdoors had to throw at her, IMO.

Anyhoo, shortly before sunset I started thinking about the fact that she had been under 18/6 lighting indoors, but when I put her outside today she got maybe 10 hours of shade and no direct sunlight.

Is she going to think she's been flipped to flower? It's a clone, I guess she could see it that way! (These are stressful thoughts for me, outdoor folks!)

So when I brought her in this evening I thought, she needs more light! (I will never take her back upstairs to the tent she's been in. I'm much too paranoid about her bringing bugs along.)

Since I'm going to keep her on my back porch at night until she's ready for a permanent outdoor spot, I got my little cheap LED that I use for seedlings and brought it down to the back porch. I put her under that (very weak) light and will probably leave her under it overnight.

Later on I transplanted her into a plastic pot. I'm not certain of the size but I'd guess it's about a 3 gallon, maybe a little less. It has some drainage holes at the bottom, which are more than large enough to allow roots to escape when they reach the bottom of the pot. Where I plan to place to her to grow (not harden) is ideal for nurturing a weed plant, because it's where I've been dumping all of the soil from previous grows when I no longer wanted to reuse the soil. I'm thinking that if all goes well, the roots will eventually escape the pot and go into soil that was previously used to grow weed plants. I've read on 420, and believe, that's a good thing!

Here she is about now:

I prepped her pot with used soil, bokashi, earth worm castings and a bit of perlite. After I got her in there, I also used some of @StoneOtter's spike blends, inputting two spikes of his general purpose blend and two of his veg blend. I hope I didn't use too much for such a small pot, but again, I'm counting on the roots growing into the soil beneath.

And now I'm going to try to get a good night's sleep. With all that's on my mind I thought that might be difficult, so I ate 1/2 of one of my zoot bomb cookies! :Rasta:

Thanks for you time.

PEACE

I hope you're currently off in dreamland!

Absolutely.

Excellent idea! That's how I run all my grows, so congrats on the short schlep. :thumb:

Something to keep in mind is that the light will attract moths to the plant outside, which may not matter depending on how long you're going to keep the extra light hours going. Either way you might want to invest in some BT or Spinosad for later in flower to take care of any caterpillars lurking.

Hi GDB , I harden a lot of plants Veggies to the out side and always put them in the sun your going to use the LED is not giving you that same spectrum I don't know ur weather there at home but here is 75-80 F daytime 60 s at night , I would opt for at least some sun light 3-4 hrs. a day .. Heck you don't have nothing else to do do ya .. There is more of a chance of it burning up if you go to day time sun if not harden in the sun . It can take it just not all yet .

Good morning all.

I'm giving the outdoor girl a name. I don't typically name my plants but in this instance I just feel it will make reporting on her a bit easier.

So this morning, after having spent the night under my low wattage LED, I put "Stella" outside again. She went to the same spot as yesterday. But this time I got her out there early enough to get about 2 hours of direct sunlight before that spot went shady.

Before I put her out there I fed her. When I transplanted her yesterday I just gave a about 12 oz. of water. Today I started her out on her FOOP organic nutrient regimen. She got an early veg dose consisting of 10ml each of Foop's Veg1 and Veg2 and 5ml of their Sweetener. I poured about 1/2 gallon in there.

Tonight, she'll be returned to the back porch and back under the light.

I must say that since I'm now a temporary, charter-member of the outdoor growers guild, I feel so...complete! Hell, I'm even schlepping! :)

And if you can't tell that I'm on pins and needles about this little project because I absolutely detest bugs, then I'm doing a good job masking my emotions! :Rasta:

Good morning all.

The clones have been in solos for 22 days. Their roots are going nuts. I've put off transplanting them for about as long as I can.

I'll get them all transplanted today.

Hello gang!

I got all the clones transplanted today.

I thought I had done all the necessary prep work but then came up a little short on prepped (used) soil. Rather than add 2 days to the process by prepping some more, I went to the hydro store and got a small bag of Happy Frog.

I put them all in 2 gallon pots.

I tried something new in preparing their pots. (What else is new? I can't seem to stop trying different ways! )

Bottom Layer: perlite (not a lot but enough to cover the surface bottom)
Next Layer: 3 parts used soil
Next Layer: 3 parts Coco/Peat performance mix
Next a little more perlite and mix that in with the Coco/Peat
Next Layer: 3 more parts used soil, sprinkled with 1 tsp. bokashi

After burying the plant, topped with new Happy Frog soil.

No water. Soil was sufficiently moistened during prep for them to relax and enjoy for at least a day or two!

The Cosmic Lights in the black pots will be quickly established and flipped. I'm more interested in getting them out of the way ASAP than I am in quantity. How much more time they get to veg is based on how much they grow. I'm not going to train them but I'm not going to let then just grow as tall as they want to either. (Well, that training part is not quite true. I already bent over one of them. I had intended to plant her to one side of a 3 gallon pot and continue to bend her around the pot. But I nixed that idea in the interest of saving time and effort.)

I'm still not sure what I'll do with the Fat Kid's Cake. She wants to be a Big Kahuna and I'd like to see it happen...I think. I just wish I knew more about the strain. Right now, I don't even know if I'm going to like her mother cause she ain't done yet!

SLITS OR HOLES

Just to show anyone who is interested, there's a big difference in how you choose to drain your solo cups. I have some that I've cut slits along the sides and some where I've punched holes through the bottoms.

Because I let these clones stay in the solo cups for so long, I've got a good example of what can happen.

The cups with the slits allowed lots of roots to escape:
CL 6-3-24 roots out slit.JPG

But the slits allowed the plant to be removed from the cup without damaging the roots:
CL 6-3-24 safe roots slit.JPG

The cup with the holes had its roots pretty much confined to the cup and were dense. Only a few strands found a hole and escaped:

I don't usually keep plants in solo cups long enough for this all to matter. But I did this time, so just thought I'd share what I saw!
