Go4snypr - Hydro Grow

well it been a couple of weeks now, dried the buds on the second plant, not properly evidently as it does not have a nice smell at all. It kind of has that "hay" type smell but not REAL bad. I had let it hang dry for 5-7 days, then trimmed it all up and jarred it.. Hopefully with time the smell will come around a bit. This one did not produce a lot of trichs either so the bud isn't the greatest. Over all, I am kind of disappointed in the scrogged plant. I can not complaint too much though as it was just bag seed and I came up 8 grams short of 12oz. of smoke-able buds. If your counting that should be a total of 23.5 oz from the 2 plants. Though the quality is not to my standards, this was just my trial run at a Capn Style Grow and I think the weight was worth the extra time put into the veg period. the next plant is only a couple of weeks from being put into flower and it is a Royal Queen Critical free from Herbies, after that will be a WW x BB, hopefully the quality control guy will keep up on the next one lol.. thanks for following, gonna head outside right now and burn one for all of you!! Later.

Congrats on the chops Go4! Sorry to hear of the sub-par quality. Sounds like there is still too much moisture in the jar. Any clue what the humidity level is in the jar?

no idea what the humidity is in the jar. I left if open all night, gonna rotate it and let it dry some more. The sub par quality is what you get for growing random seeds I guess. The first plant turned out nice at least, and you could tell while it was growing that it was going to be better than the scrogged plant.. The scrog plant was never as sticky, smelly or had any trich production. I might try to get some bud pictures posted in the next couple of days too.

Think of this as growing pains. When we get into this lifestyle, we do our best to accommodate the girlies, but let's face it, putting together the optimal indoor growing system complete with climate control and perfect feeding is just not in the human experience to grasp all that right away. My first grow produced several cutting from a single plant, but they all died from pythium in an aeroponic setup, then when I flipped the mother plant into flower, it turned out to be a dude. My second grow went alot like this one, almost no trics and I harvested about 2 weeks too early. I lived and I learned, my rooms are bigger and are getting better, but even still after being into this for well over a year, I am slowly dialing it in. Just keep on it!

Yeah man, I hear ya. This was only my trial run at a capn style, so I can't complain at all. We have a license for 49 plants but that is WAY too much work to look after and there is no need for that many. My next plant is only a couple of weeks from flipping the lights so hopefully in 10 weeks I will be smoking some nicer herb.

I am shooting to flip next Wed-Fri so we are near in timing.

As far as your 49 head count, depending on available space and materials costs, you could easily use that number to ween out the runts and find yourself the choice phenotype characteristics you desire in a plant and send only a small fraction into flower, kinda like a contest with an advancement bracket. When growing from seed, you'll want to send those to flower, but if you take cuttings along the way, you can thin out by characteristic who gets to advance and who gets to meet Mr Garbage Disposal. I'm pretty sure plant count includes clones and seedlings, but with 49, you could easily send 4 to flower every cycle of a room, and if you have just 2 decent sized flower rooms, you can chop a harvest every month indefinitely!

The 49 plant count is "rooted" plants, but in all fairness, the canadaian government has botched this so badly, I am not sure what is actually "legal" right now. The license that was issued actually expired at the end of March when the new system here was supposed to be implemented. A judge ruled in our favor though for an injunction to "maintain the status quo" I believe. So at this point it is a grey area as to how many plants and how much a guy can have on hand. It was the hand watering of the plants that became a pain in the ass as well. Someone had to be around to make sure they got watered, with just 5 plants going and 2 of them on an auto water system the work has been taken right out of it and it is easier to ask someone else to keep an eye on it if you want to leave town for a weekend. What I will be doing now is growing from seed, and taking a clone of each plant along the way. This way if the plant is what I want, I can grow that clone into a mother, if not, I can either grow the clone and flower it, or toss it and move on to the next plant. I expect my plant count will get to around 6 or 8 possibly at any given time, but hopefully not above that.

Looking great go4snyper, I enjoy dropping by and saying "High". Also I will be going Capn style when I get up and running so watching you and Skybound is a great learning experience.

60, when you start your journal, please share the link on my journal!

Hope all is well in your world.

Thanks for sharing this grow with us.

Please head over to the 420 Strain Reviews forum and post your smoke report there too.

I’m moving this to Completed Journals now.

Have you started a new grow you would like to share with us?

If so, please feel free to start a new journal here: Journals in Progress

You can use the Report Post feature found at the bottom left of every post and we'll move it for you right away.

Sending you lots of love and positive energy.

Snypr,

That was a pH problem in your grow, I had the same thing.
But it came out of it, congrats on a great grow.

Hey. If no one better comes along I'll take a stab at it- or at least find you some links. I've never grown this way- not sure who on the forum is atm. Probably quite a few - somewhere.... I can also barely see the pic because the sun is shining in my eyes so bad.
Nevermind - I've gone this far...
Yes for sure there is a hole under the pot into which the water drains.
Not totally sure what you mean by mold- but slime/algae won't grow in an opaque tube so people use colored ones rather than clear to prevent algae.
I don't know what the flowerpot thingy is but I can barely see anything.
Here's a link to something similar from the almighty Cap'n.

How to: Simple Hydroponics

And a couple related links. Don't know if this helps or not but WTF

Thanks for the reply! I went back to re-read the set-up and got my questions answered.BUTTTT,since you're here. I have another question for ya regarding filling water in res:

If I have a 27 tote with 20 gal of nute water, and the plant drinks 5 gal leaving me with 15 gal of nutes water in the res. Do I mix another 5 gal batch to match the ppm or add 5gal pure water? People's opinions are divided so I'm confused..

Sorry I worded this question sounds a SAT math problem..

Edit:The "How to set up a" was REALLY helpful!

He he. I'm sorry- I could try to pull something out of my butt to answer you with but I don't even grow hydro. I just dream of doing cap'n style sometime

Hey, thanks for taking a look at the grow. I am sure by now you have read that there is no hole under the plant. Just the 6 inch hole off to the side, that is where the water runs back to, and you don't end up with roots in your res. As for the top up question. I decide on how to do that by what the ppm of the remaining water is. If the ppm of the water is climbing, then I just add straight R.O water. If the ppm of the res is declining or staying close to the same, I will add water with nutes mixed in.

High go4snypr, how are you doing?
