GiGaBaNE's 3rd & Final Journal - At Least Until I Change Country

vermiculite is now on my shopping list, ive just been using compost out of the bag with nothing added to it, so i think thats where ive been going wrong,

ive been thinking of something else as well, say i put 3 or 4 thin tubes in each pot and sealed the bottom of each tube and drilled holes at different levels and covered with some find netting, then these could be glued or placed in the pots then the pots filled with compost, then when the plants are big enough these tubes could be filled with water/nutrient mix and this would water all the pot from the bottom up, but then once the soil has taken all the water out these tubes then this only leaves air in the tubes, so im wondering if this will get more oxygen to the roots and if it would boost the plants or not, in theory it would allow me to water the whole pot and i would know its all been watered as the holes would be drilled at different places in the tube, so i could fill these tubes with water until the pot was well watered, then once the tubes have drained all the water out all that will be left is a tube running from the bottom of the pot to the top with holes at different levels, now as their is no water left in these tubes would this then supliment the roots with oxygen, plus some roots would more than likely grow through the fine net and into the tubes, then when i watered these roots in the tubes would be getting the nutrient quicker than they would out the soil, so im wondering if this could boost the growth of the plants and improve nutrient uptake and oxygen uptake for the roots, it would get more air into the soil

i like the concept, it sort of incorperates a blend of airoponics/flood and drain. you would, with practice understand how much liquid to put in the tube for a complete drink, however because of the infrequency of wetness inside the air tube any roots growing in there would probably die from the combination of exposure to air/drying out fast/light leak.

ive had similar basic ideas, but not quite so advanced as this, for me it was basically just sticking a straw into the pot and blowing into it for air and just putting the pot into a bowl of liquid to bottom feed it.

Very interesting idea! I wonder if you set some sort of light (as in weight) absorbant material as a wicking through the tubes. When dried would it shrink enough to allow airflow and at the same time prevent the roots from growing into the tube or at least block any light?
:hmmmm:
If I were high i bet I could figure it all out! :)

and finally for those of you following this little scene.

GiGaPoT Elite mk1

This is the largest size the GiGapot comes in. its approximatly 200litres!! perfectly airated soil suspended nearly 2' in the air so plenty of clearance beneath for drip catching e.t.c. it eliminates weight accosiated issues with moving your plants around ie rotating, rearanging for height near the lights and in a pinch they can be rolled into the back of a transit van pronto =D
oh and they only cost a £1 for the mesh and £1 deposit on the trolly which you can get back when your finished or just steal it, lol
Its meant to be filled right up for growing and can last over a week without watering, but i wont be using these in a house with a family still in it, lol...this is for later.
whatcha think?

My mind is SPINNING with variants on this concept!

I think I'm in love with page 16 of this journal. :)

I just realized while I was catching myself up GiGa's events, that ABBA had been playing in the background for the last 20 minutes without me throwing up once!

Must be love. :circle-of-love:

hey I like ABBA followed by some Black Sabbath of course:)

get high and work it out then mate,

i will give the tubes a try though and see what happens when i do my next round of soil grows, id use very fine netting to stop the roots getting in, but i think any roots that do get in would die and this would work the same as an air pot, just from the inside instead of the outside, clearly the holes drilled in it would need to be worked out to stop any water sticking in the tubes and causing problems with mould and fungus, so their would need to be a way of making sure they are empty, but im thinking they would only be wet when im watering as it would be used up very quick after watering, so this would then let air in and out the roots system, my only concern would be bugs getting in the tubes and laying eggs deep down in the soil, so these tubes would need to have some fine netting over the top to stop things like fungus gnats getting in, i was just trying to think of ways to improve a soil grow with little effort and came up with that, i just need to test it and make sure it works before i try it on a number of plants, but i got my dwc scrog to do before i give my next round of soil a go

gettin high is a problem for me, im lucky if i get a gram a week atm with monies the way they are. i invested my smoking money into the new auto seeds im growing, hope to god (if i believed in one) they hurry up and grow.

why dont you push something into the tubes thats not organic...i would have said cotton wool, but thats a plant too, lol, but maybe polyester fibers. non absorbant, will let water and air pass through ok but bugs would have a real hard time and you could just replace the filling as and when needed..could sacrifice a single pillow( yes i mean the head rest for sleep) to the cause and it would last you a while.

im rooting for your experiment to work! any passive o2 system that works is good for us all.

edit: im going to try DWC soon, im hoping you will hold my hand thyrough the proccess, lol.
im not scrogging or anything tho, i just want to learn how to use a pop bottle to summon weed =D

Looking great man i read ur whole threat wish i was here from the begin pce for now good work!

thanks man! you havnt really missed much, im on the poverty line, even to the point of raping my grow for leaves to smoke, lol.
got these new autos running tho and hoping this will be my meal ticket.
this journal isnt really going to end any time soon and with luck you will be able to see my grow ability evolve over time. more than anything else holding me back is plain old money, but everything i do will be in this journal untill i have bought loads of new goodies, bpn-nutes being top of the list as well as a shed load more lights.
i dont plan on changing my lights style any time soon tho as i want to stick with flouro untill i can squeeze no more out of it.

my next journal will begin when i can get 200 seedlings going at a time and have all the periphery needed to complete the grow ;)

I am there with you GiGa... I am looking for a way to get a 400w setup so I can yield better. I will never grow that much but each one needs to count and I need to become better as I want to succeed at this hobby.

I'm rolling down the same road pals! Haven't bought a sack in at least 2 months. Maybe longer! Spent all my spare cash building this dream maker. :)

Funny, when I wasn't working full time and being stay at home Papa for my baby girl, I seemed to have a lot more smoke! LOL!

Now, with the bigger place and my baby girl beginning her transition into the Pre-teens. Money is an absolute bitch to find extra of!
And my second biggest reason I'm working so hard trying to figure this game out for myself!
(First reason, of course, is that I just really WANT to! :) )

One little nugget of wisdom I've gleaned in my young old age - and can take a bit of solace in - is that it all comes out in the wash, man.
Might as well have some fun while I'm doing my laundry!

Peace!

i trimmed up this plant the logical intention was to remove all the warped and/or burned leaves, but in reality it was just an excuse to stel the leaves to fill my rizla's, lol

anyways now that its trimmed i see that it is officially a bonzai. i dont know about the rest of you guys but this thing is groing its 11th or 12th node right now and its still smaller than my d*ck...im pretty sure its the right amount of nodes to put into flower, but its too damn small for me to get much off it.

i have decided to repot. going to find the biggest container i can fill with soil and put it in there as i did some checking on the web and bonzai is reversable =D

looks like first clone may very well end up being my champion plant, lol.

Looks like you are having a good time over here Giga! Hope all has been well my friend.

Wow bro sorry you have to smoke crap! wished I could hand you the bong so you didnt have to molest your little ladies:)
soon you will be with bud tho so I hope it come soon!

just a bit of an update.

first 2 pics were a quick reflective tent i had set up in the lounge over night. i had repotted my auto's and didnt want to put them up in the attic, i know auto's are more tolerant of cold, but i didnt want to risk an almost frost.

the yellow framework is just some random kids tent i found in the attic, but is missing parts and the tent shell was useless anyway, so im just assimilating the new poles and brackets any way i can....i put a survival blanket over this to boost light relectives.

found a storage tub to combine with a mosquito net to repot my sativa clone into. i have decided that the cup size air pots are only good to start them off, but produce bonsai plants that are qute but non productive enough to be usefull.

oh and its my dark cycle so appologies for average at best pics i was working in pitch black except for the laser focus and the flash. and yes the room is a mess, im still busy kicking me and the missus out of the room and converting to a grow room, lol
