GiGaBaNE's 3rd & Final Journal - At Least Until I Change Country

Finally got my first prototype of the GiGapot - Korloin model (you should trademark this! :) ) complete.

fantastic job!
lol ive started a trend =D i can see plant pot shares taking a nose dive.

it looks very good. wonder if the r oots will pierce the fabric or if enough air will get through that they recede before hitting the perimeter. time will tell =)

one problem i can see is that the milk crate looks to have pretty solid sides...that could cause root curl which is is the entire purpose of air pots, to auto prune roots with air. the design is great...the particular crate may not be.

i still think plain old hessian potato sacks will be the best all round, especially as you can bury them in the garden as a bit of extra fert when they start to rot, lol.

mini update, all 10 of my new fast auto's have cracked and are in soil. i may try to do a journal within a journal, lol =)

That one crate does have @ 1/2" solid corners on each side, but is pretty open aside from that. The other one I made doesn't have the same cornering. Hopefully won't screw things too much. The plant will still have 10 1/2" sq. per side of open container to prune with though.

The fabric looks pretty solid in the pics, but it's rather thin and porous actually. About the same as the material that holds the peat pots I use together.

Time will tell though! Burlap would be ideal though. I think you're dead in there!
We'll get all the R&D taken care of soon enough to get your flagship product ready for market! :) You have lots of folks inspired and will have many designs to choose from. ;)

Transplanted into them last night so I could begin a little LST for the last week of veg. Fingers crossed! :)

Ok peeps, here is my very first....drum roll please....... Smart(er) Pot! This is my 1/2 gallon size. 1/2 gallon was the best of all sizes to start with for multiple reasons. One of which was I could squeeze 4 out of one Wal-e-World bag. At 50 cents for one bag, that is 12.5 cents material cost per pot! Add my little bit of time, thread and electricity to run the sewing machine. Not bad at all!

Next size is a 3 gallon. I can get one out of a bag. Then 10 gallon, I think it will take two bags for that size. So 50 cents for a 3 gallon, and $1 for a 10 gallon.

Sounds Smart(er) to me!

Awesome Korloin! Where did you get the material? What was the cost? REPS brotha!

EDIT: On the list for reps. I need to spread some around first. I'll go see what jandre2k3's doing, he's usually good for some rep.

:)

I have some friends that do landscaping and construction. I bought that roll off of them for like $5 and a beer to line my garden beds with. It was half or more gone when I got it, about enough material to lay 2 3x12' beds and make some airpots.:thumb: Still have enough for one or two more. I have a short plastic basket (@ 5" tall 20" wide and 24" tall) that I was going to use to flower clones in a scrog next.

scrogging away myself:) tell you I went mid evil on them todayOOO

Hey guys =)
dont think i have abandoned you, been very busy decorating the house (yes its taking me forever).
I cant seem to find the pics i took previously, but i do have some for my first successful clone i took during repotting so i will post them.
Have my camera, batteries and smartcard all in one place now so i can take more pics...just charging batteries.

i will post some pics of my main plants, but to be honest they are just sat there doing nothing atm. think all the work has shocked the hell out of them.
Ironically my 'topping' plant looks the most healthy, i will be taking 4 clones off it very soon, like today or tommorow. i will take a photo pre and post for a little sneak preview =)

im currently in the middle of moving out of my bedroom and clearing the place out to convert into a grow room as my attic is just too damn cold for the plants have seen 5c (41f) temps, which of course screws the hell out of RH which is probably a contributing factor to the clone rot i keep getting...im down to 1 that looks like it made it and 1 on deaths door.
Im desperatly trying to find the cash to get an air pump so i can try airstone water bubbler cloning for the 4 im about to take.

Here on out the journal will focus on my new plants untill the others pick up some.

out of 10 fastbud seeds 8 have made it to seedlings and are doing well (seed casing troubles) my NL that i planted at the same time has lost it baby leaves during birth but i see microscopic real first leaves that are growing so it will make it. i still have 2 NL seeds i have yet to plant.

my next post will contain all the pictures i can muster together and will lock in the journal dates for both my grows (mainly so i dont forget again, lol)

Also...for lovers of the GiGaPoT, i will post a picture of the ultimate commercial scale gigapot and you sdhould laugh your asses off.
but its amazing for mobility, airation and free drainage =D i have not filled it all the way as i do not currently have enough soil to fill it!

Edit: just got a call from my internet provider, im a bit behind on my payments and may lose my internet for a little while till we get paid oO....its a race between my batteries charging and them cutting me off lol...

god damn web!!!! just spent the last 2 and a half hours preparing a mega update and when i clicked post reply it went to internet explorer cannot display this page...pressed the back button and the reply box was empty...im about a breath shy of smashing my computer right now! =(((((((((

will try again later

im so f'kin peed right now.

for those wanting a preview, check out my gallery, the most recent 20 or so pictures are all up now.

somethings wrong with internet explorer my computer is acting funny

15-sep-2012 (day 77 veg) (main grow)
(day 07 veg) (fast auto's)
(day 07 veg) (NL auto 1)
(day 00 veg) (NL auto 2)
Ok here we go an official update (at bloody last).
MAIN GROW

This is my current main grow and grow room. not a great deal is happening right now, between being repeatedly shocked and night time temps of around 5c(41f), burned by soil thats too hot, at least 1 dropped pot and being plucked of all suckers several times...im amazed they are still alive tbh, lol
GEDC01791.JPG

My Indica. i plan on topping the two main stems so that all the tops are of around the same height. once its in a warmer room and is left alone for a while it should spring into action. if i get 2 more clones from this ill be happy and put it into flower around the time the autos do.
GEDC0182.JPG

My 'other' sativa. this thing suffered the worst from the hot soil. its slowly starting to recover....cant wait till i can get some superthrive.
GEDC0181.JPG

My topping plant, previously known as 'the moster'. this baby seems to look the healthiest and is growing well, i think because its so small, it didnt try to suck up as many nutes as the other main plants so recieved the least damage...its just about ready to take 4 clones from...cant wait till payday, getting an air pump and stones. notice on the botton pics, the first leaves this thing produced after its first drastic decapitation look like coty leaves from a new seedling oO

Attack of the clones

first is my earliest successful clone. after having to trasplant into new soil twice, it seems to have settled quite well and is ready for another topping session, just waiting on my air bubbler for water cloning. note the dates on the photo's as it showes the progress.

My 2 indica clones. these have not been put into new soil yet as i wanted them to have well established roots before i did...ill do that in the next few days.
GEDC0185.JPG

my other clones did not do so well. these are the last remaining 2 and one isnt going to make it i think =/
ah well shit happens, ill just keep plugging away, will be going into seed manufacture i think as i have a great success rate with making seedlings.

Fast Auto's

These have not been in the ground very long at all. i lost 2 to seed casing troubles and almost lost a 3rd to the same. But they are looking good and are growing well, lets hope they like the new soil they have been repotted into.
GEDC01801.JPG

This is my vanguard plant, it has almost 48 hours on the others. this is to put into my new soil ahead of the others to give me a early warning should they not like it.
GEDC01811.JPG

This is the runt of the litter, almost died to a seed case problem but as you can see it has managed to pop its first real leaves enough to take up some son and they are growing very fast. they were about half the size of this picture when i woke up and they are bigger now =D
GEDC01821.JPG

This is my NL auto that i cracked at the same time...it also has a case issue but im not sure if this one will make it....you can just about see the real leaves forming...so very miniscule, but it gives me hope as they were non existent a day ago. the top green bit on the soil is half or the coty that came away with the seed casing =(
GEDC01792.JPG

Other Stuff

we bought some new ferts as seen below...ive decided to experiment now i have this as it looks pretty comprehensive (except calcium)...please meet my new experimental method of growing...NLauto Vermigrow =D . There is nothing in that pot except vermiculite, a NLauto seed and a 50% strngth mix of that new fert (50% of weakest instructions on the back) it would be awesome if this grows well...time will tell.

Here is the ferts

and finally for those of you following this little scene.

GiGaPoT Elite mk1

This is the largest size the GiGapot comes in. its approximatly 200litres!! perfectly airated soil suspended nearly 2' in the air so plenty of clearance beneath for drip catching e.t.c. it eliminates weight accosiated issues with moving your plants around ie rotating, rearanging for height near the lights and in a pinch they can be rolled into the back of a transit van pronto =D
oh and they only cost a £1 for the mesh and £1 deposit on the trolly which you can get back when your finished or just steal it, lol
Its meant to be filled right up for growing and can last over a week without watering, but i wont be using these in a house with a family still in it, lol...this is for later.
whatcha think?

Holy Huge GiGapot, Batman! That's an F'ing awesome idea. I was thinking you found a waste basket at a city park or something. Around here some places have huge mesh containers. I was thinking about one of those on the roll around trash can base thingy. You know, that lets the big cans roll around, janitors use them a lot.

I like it. My immediate thoughts are will there be indoor lights/plant height issues?

I'm gonna bow out of the GiGapot since you got a great development going already. I'm gonna focus on my Smart(er) Pot. In fact I'm going to update on that in a day or two as well as on another new thing I'm doing with light.

:thumb::goodjob:

yes there will be height issues, you pretty much have to add 3' to every grow calculation. a typical uk house has 8' rooms so that still gives you 5' to play with. as long as your not into 10' monsters, should be all good. bear in mind im a cfl/t8 style grower so i only need about 6 inches above my plants for lights. this works best for short bushy plants, but has such a huge root base you will be growing 4' titans and they should have heavy buds =)

lol no worries mate. the giga pot carries my name for a reason ;) i saw an air pot and boom, the entire line of pots came to me at once. these are not so much discoveries as they are just physical manifestations of an idea already formed, keep on with the smart pots as there is not one perfect pot really...different pots for differenct circimstances =)

think you can get 12 of these into the back of a transit van, which comes in very handy if you need to relocate your grow asap...no other pot on the planet has this kind of capacity combined with mobility at least as far as i have found so far, lol

wow I just had a thought if before you put in the dirt,
you can lift up the back' you know where they push them together and now you got a srog screen built in:)
and you can still have acsess from the said area fromas far as yor window sreen to the pivot point.
not to mention it is Campy. its the 21century terrarium :)

haha now your cooking, almost to le grand proposal ;)
think exactly how you have said, but insert another trolly HALFWAY into the other. you can make a chain of them tied together that are closer to square pots, all with a scrog screen attached and all pushable by a single guy. i would do strings of 5 together which will still fit into the back of a tranny van.

oh and you will have half a trolly left open at the front, this could hold a water tank to drip feed or some such =)

i just purchased some giga pots, i found them in my local pound shop, they had all sizes so bought some small ones for clones and seedlings and got some bigger ones for normal size plants, so ill be keeping these for my next soil grow,
