GG7's Indoor/Outdoor Grows!

I hear ya! I'm very glad that our climate protects us from having to deal with many of the common pests found at lower elevations. Up here, the only realy problem is White Fly and Brown Fly, but I generally deal with those on the peppers. Aside from the constant threat of powdery mildew, the cannabis doesn't seem to have any insect pests that live up here. At least I haven't seen any evidence of bug infestations.

As far as my rotten nug goes... It could still have been the cold temps since this cola was touching the clear plastic tarp I put over the plant during the storm. I don't know how Cannabis bud reacts to freezing temps. Does the bud fall apart like this if it gets hit with a frost or freeze? I've never had a near freeze event this early in October before, so no experience dealing with frost killed plants. I usually get the entire crop in before the 15th or so, and that is normally around the time we start getting storms and winter cold fronts.

Anyone?

Sorry, GG7 - I don't recall that I've had any frost or freeze issues with my indoor crop, yet. ;)

Too funny that the Urkles are the only non purps. Urkle is still the best tasting strain I've ever had, though, believe it or not this Big Bang Auto I grew over the summer is way up there. Like sour apples first hit, cotton candy after the first hit. I love it! I'm going to definitely try growing either it or it's big sister (non-auto version) again.

Really sorry you lost that huge cola, but it sure looks like you'll have some nice bud there! Love the Purple Rhino! Your garden is amazing in general. :yummy:

Hope you are well buddy, and good luck with the weekend harvest! :thumb:

Hey! Thanks XL! :)

That Big Bang Auto sounds fantastic! :cheertwo:

Yeah... It kind of sucked having to throw away such a huge bud, but it was obviously not fit for consumption. It was kind of gooey inside between the resin and decomposing plant matter. My fingers were coated with resin as I inspected the bud trying to determine what had made it turn into such an odd condition.

Very odd spongy feel to the bud material. A normal bud off that plant feels more like raw Broccoli than anything else. The colas on these GDP clones are normally rock hard and dense.

But like you guys all know... I am not going to be hurting for GDP this winter even with throwing that much away. In fact, I ended up tossing all the small airy buds from GDP #1 cause I just didn't have the patience to manicure them. Even with the loss of that cola and the airy budlets, I am still going to probably end up with close to a pound of dried GDP bud when all is said and done, perhaps even more! :thumb:

Great to see ya XL! I will be posting another photo update tomorrow that may include some microscope shots of GDP #3 trichomes. I checked it with my loupe this morning, and most of the trichomes were cloudy, but I wasn't seeing too many amber ones yet. Thats where a scope comes in handy!

Stay tuned! :)

I haven't had frost issues with any of my outdoor cannabis cause the typical harvest season here doesn't get that cold during that time. I do experience frost issues with a few of my outdoor plants though, and assume the protection process would be the same. I know that you don't want the plastic to touch the plant. In fact for frost conditions I would recommend using burlap or even just bed sheets work well. I have let the burlap and bed sheets touch the plant and don't seem to get any adverse reactions that I recall.

No thanks i have been battling three kinds of catepillars they suck! I think i won!:wood::blunt:

Tell me about it... I have had so many of those things I have been having nightmares about them... haha :biglaugh: It wouldn't be so bad if there was one or two and you could contain them. But no!, you have to stand out there with a freaking pair of tweezers all damn day. Sorry..., I'm ok now. Just had to vent a little ... :biglaugh:

Thanks Budman!

I've dealt with plenty of frost and freezes up here, just not with my Cannabis because we usually don't see any frost or freezes this early in the season. I usually have had all my outdoor plants harvested and done several weeks before the first frosts or freezes descend on us.

I'm pleased by how tolerant all of the various strains have handled these near freezing temps! Aside from that one lost cola from the covered GDP plant, all the other plants that remained uncovered outdoors through this winter storm show no signs of damage other than the rapid change of color.

It is currently 38.3 degrees out there, and everything is out again, so hopefully they continue to weather these low temps. We are supposed to be getting a high pressure system in here that will be raising our temps to well above normal by Wednesday. They're talking a return to 90 degree temps down in the central valley and low 80s up here. Good news since as I said in a previous post; The majority of the plants on the back hill still need at least another week before harvest. Possibly two.

Weekend Update II
GDP #1 Dried Bud Shots • GDP #3 Early Harvest Bud Shot!

Just a small update this time. I took a few photos of a portion of the drying GDP #1 buds which I just got done trimming and putting into jars.

This is about half of what I ended up with. The rest was still being dried in the closet when I took these the other day.

P1012106.JPG

I haven't weighed them yet, but they filled three jars (six if I filled them half way) which should make the weight close to my original estimate. Since I tossed out most of the lower buds, the weight will not be an actual full accounting of what the yield was.

GDP #3 Cola Shot Redux!

Just wanted to post these images again in an official update for the record. For those just checking in... this was the remaining lower portion of the branch that contained the rotten cola. Fortunately, this part of that branch was free of any mold, decay or whatever that problem was with the top part I tossed.

At this point I am already up to my eyeballs in bud, so I can afford to be choosey now about what parts of these latest harvests I decide to keep. At this point forward, only the choicest buds will be preserved. I'm going to compost the rest out of pure necessity. I've got 36 1 quart mason jars on hand, and based on a visual inspection of what is left out there to be harvested, I am fully expecting to use every single one of them! :laughtwo:

This has been hands down one of the most productive growing seasons we have ever had up here for everything we grow! The Cannabis was obviously no exception! My plan is to either sell or donate the majority of the remaining harvest to the collectives down the mountain, if I can figure out how to go about doing that. :thumb:

Should have at least one more update between now and Sunday.

Stay tuned! :thumb:

Hey GG, I have had better luck with the nonwoven spun white floating row cover than the plastic. It is lighter, quieter and doesn't trap moisture either. It does let rain get through though.

Hey OG!

Thanks for the tip! I wasn't prepared for the near freezing temps we ended up getting, so we used what we had, which wasn't ideal!

I will look into picking up some of that stuff you are referring to the next time I get down to a major city! ;) I doubt the nursery up here would have anything like that, but I will definitely check there too!

:)

Do you have an emergency closet where you store all your supplies like water, blankets, flash light, medical kit? This would be a good place to store all your jars of weed? hahah :biglaugh: This way you are all prepared for any emergency.

The way these feds are cracking down here in California it is going to make getting medicine from these dispenseries much more difficult. It sucks the way they keep going back and fourth. They are right in many cases where they say the dispenseries are just out to get rich. I've seen 1/8ths going for up to 70.00. That is ridiculous. If it is about the patients and the sick then they surely don't have to charge that much. So in some sense perhaps they are shooting themselves in the foot by getting greedy. If they can relabel cannibis and remove it from being a schedule 1 drug then that would help relax the laws a bit I think.

I've already got enough to last me a few years at the rate I use it! ;)

I hear ya! They say that they are not interested in home grows for personal use in these raids, but who knows where they will start turning their attentions next! I'm glad I live where I do! We are pretty much off the radar up here.

How many posts per page? Is it a fixed number or based on the size of each post? I want to post my next update but I would prefer to put it at the top of the next page. Thought it would flip with this one.

Weekend Update III
Early Morning Bud Shots • Indoor Grow Update

We got down to 37.8 this morning, but it looks like all the plants survived the cold once again! I went out this morning right around dawn and snapped the following images of many of the outdoor plants.

First up...

Indoor Grow Update

As you can see in these photos, the four GDP clones are doing great. No issues and no worries! I'm pleased that they are staying squat and bushy so far. This is what I want so that I can keep them together under this one light station.

That's it for right now. I haven't had a chance to check GDP #3 with the scope yet. I have been putting the finishing touches on our memorial to Kimba out in our front yard. I hope to share some photos of it with you all once it is completed later today. I will post the photos on Photobucket and link them to a post. Hopefully that way, the 420 staff won't get mad at me! ;)

Thanks again for tuning in and stay tuned for more on GDP #3 later this weekend!:thanks:

Beautiful! What are you going to flower the indoor plants with?

Hey MB!

Actually, I'm not going to flower any of them until March and then let them finish outside while the light cycle will still work. Not before I take some cuttings from them. I might even keep one or two to act as mothers.

When it comes time for 12/12 I will use the same light station they are under right now. I'll just change half the tubes over to 3000k bloom bulbs.

Beautiful grow man! (Both indoor and out).
I am envious that you can grow outdoors without the threat of mite and pillar attacks.
Must be a wonderful thing. :)

I wish I lived next door so I could get some of those cuttings from ya.
Did I tell you that when I harvested my Purple OG Kush that out of the entire
plant I found 1 single seed that looked very fertile. It was large with spots. I will try to grow it next year I think.

Kimba's Memorial

It took some time to put all the pieces together, but today I was able to complete my little memorial shrine to the most amazing pet I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. We had less than two short years to spend together, but those times were magic, and we definitely made the very most of the time we had!

The following photos are linked from my Photobucket account

After I took those photos, we found an old antique brass vase with a procelian flower in it. I thought it would make a nice addition, so we put it there just under the plaque.

Now whenever I find myself missing my little garden helper and best friend, I can sit here, under his favorite tree and gaze upon this little shrine, with a sleeping cat in the same pose and in the same spot that the real Kimba could often be found on sunny days, sleeping peacefully under his favorite tree.:Namaste:
