GG7's Indoor/Outdoor Grows!

Hey OG!

Thanks for the tip! I wasn't prepared for the near freezing temps we ended up getting, so we used what we had, which wasn't ideal!

I will look into picking up some of that stuff you are referring to the next time I get down to a major city! ;) I doubt the nursery up here would have anything like that, but I will definitely check there too!

:)

I'd be surprised if your local nursery DIDN'T have it in stock.....pretty common stuff.

good luck with the rest of the ladies

Thanks OG! :Namaste:

We plan to be down there later this week, so I will check into it then.

Also, I wanted to let everyone know that I will not be harvesting GDP #3 today. Still seeing a low amber count, so I am going to give it a few more days, and take advantage of the warming trend up here this week.

The soonest I would be harvesting would be Tuesday, but I may go as far out as next weekend. :Namaste::peace:

Your outdoor plants are doing well under the frost attack.
RIP Kimba. The memorial is a sweet touch.

Thanks Twelve! :Namaste:

Mornings are always the toughest because he was always waiting for me patiently at my bedroom for me to emerge to take him on our rounds, and now opening that door and seeing the empty spot where he would be waiting every morning breaks my heart. So now I go out to the memorial and talk to him for a few minutes before I start my day. It does help a little.

The weather has improved the last few days. Not as cold at night, and the days have been warming into the mid 70s. This warming trend that is forecast to last well through the week is giving me the opportunity to let all the outdoor plants keep going until they are ready.

The Miracle Plant

I wanted to convey something special that just happened today... A few days before we lost Kimba, the remains of GDP #2 after the harvest back August showed all signs of being dead, with a not a single sign of activity so I had taken it outside in the unlit work shed next to the compost heap and had planned to cut what's left of it down today and discard it, but to my surprised this morning, when I went down to get it, sheers in hand I discovered several new shoots of healthy new growth about 6 inches long emerging from the base of the stalk. It started doing this in the dark of the tool shed, in near freezing over night temps and with no light and no water for nearly a week.

It was a very touching sign of new growth and a will to live, so I am going to trim off all the dead growth and bring her back inside under the warmth and comfort of the lights. This plant now symbolizes to me the death and rebirth of life, so I didn't have the heart carry through the previous plan to cut it down to the nub and yank it out of the pot by the roots and end its life for good.

Instead, I am going to trim her up and bring her back under the veg lights to begin a new chapter in her journey through life. I'm going to rename her "The Miracle Plant". A symbol of the never ending cycle of life, from death and despair to eventual rebirth and renewal of the coming Spring. A perfect living legacy to Kimba's memory! What made it more special was that while I was taking the harvest shots of this plant back then in late August, Kimba kept jumping up on the Jazuzzi Spa cover running into the shots and nosing the plant. I finally had to put him in the house so I could take the photos without him in "getting in the way". It was just Kimba trying to "help", but I wanted clean shots of the plant by itself. He stood in there, looking at me through the window like he didn't understand what he had done wrong.

You can imagine how much I regret now not just letting him be in those shots like he always wanted to be. :(

I am never one to ignore special moments like this when they are thrust upon us without warning or fanfare. So Kimba's Miracle Plant will receive the best care I can offer such a special plant who overcame adversity to give me a sign of how much she wanted to live and still wanted to give next spring. Being that this happened on the second anniversary week of Kimba's passing, makes it a very special plant for us now, and in a way, continues our living tribute to his memory and his profound and very positive impact on all of our lives here.

I'll talk some photos of this "miracle plant' later.

Goldengoose7, my whole heart goes out to you and your family. I lost my precious cat Biscuit just over 6 months ago, it's too hard to explain the feeling. Just remember, he'll be waiting for you.

p.s

That is the sweetest thought on rejuvenating that plant

Hello MissBud and welcome to my Journal! :Namaste:

I'm so sorry for your loss! :( Folks that have never been blessed like we have with that extra special bond with a loving animal companion can never truly understand why we mourn so deeply when that special spirit leaves our lives forever. I too hope that I will see him again when my time comes to move on to whatever awaits us all.

I appreciate your kind and heartfelt words, and hope that you won't be a stranger around here.

:peace::Love:

GDP #1 Weigh In
Take That Naysayers!

After over 4 days of hang drying, followed by several more days in and out of curing jars, GDP #1's official weigh in is here!

If you recall from the harvest post, the entire plant's biomass minus the fan leaves weighed in at 1 pound 7.95 ounces. I predicted that I would end up with between 4.0 and 4.5 ounces of dried bud.

How could I know this so early? Well, after you weigh enough plants like this, you start to compare the wet to the dried bud, and in a very short time, you can predict the dried weight based on the full plant's wet weight.

Not many folks know how well this works, and some can get downright nasty in their criticism of the practice, claiming it is a waste of time. ;)

Well... They can chew on this... :laughtwo:

P10121501.JPG

As you can plainly see from the display on the scale, her final bud yield tipped the scales at just over 4.5 ounces. So... I missed the estimate by .15, but I am always happy to end up with more than my chopped wet weight would indicate.

Hopefully this example will silence the critics of full plant wet weight checks once and for all! :riskybusiness:

Some folks still won't get it! Will they Old Med Man? :laughtwo:

Kimba's Miracle Plant
Sometimes They Surprise You!

Excerpts from one of my previous posts...

GDP #2's remaining stump and few assorted lower buds and leaves showed all the signs of being dead. So I had taken it outside into the unlit work shed next to the compost heap a little over a week ago. I had planned to cut what's left of it down today and discard it, but to my surprised this morning, when I went down to get it, sheers in hand, I discovered several new shoots of healthy new growth about 6 inches long emerging from the base of the stalk. It started doing this in the dark of the tool shed, in near freezing over night temps and with no light and no water for well over a week.

So here she is, all trimmed up and free of the decaying old growth!

P1012152.JPG

I gave her a feed of Miracle Grow RED and Molasses since I am sure that this new growth is starving for everything in both of those nutrient packages, so that should help turn her new growth a nice deep green and put her on the way to another growing season! :)

My condolences for Kimba my good friend...I will be dedicating next couple nights to catch up here and on OMM's journals...

PS. Not sure if your interested, but I have 2 WELL BRED Jack Russell Terrier's that really need some more space to run. Let me know, for you they are free my friend.

GDP #3 Harvest Day Photos I
Today is the day based on deteriorating weather conditions

The time has come. The weather is turning rapidly and with high dewpoints in the morning and low temps in the high 30s to low 40s, the threat of bud mold/bud rot is growing exponentially by the day.

We no longer have the option to base the harvest day on trichome ratios. The plant needs to come down today and the buds taken in for drying or else I run the risk of losing the majority of this plant's bounty to bud rot.

This morning I found another crown showing the early signs of rot, so my hand has been forced for better or worse. I'm going to wait until later this morning after the sun has thoroughly dried the plant off from the heavy morning dew.

Here are the last set of images you will see of the plant in its natural state, taken at 7:15AM PDT just before the sun rose over the mountains to the east.

You can see how purple even the fan leaves have become even since the last set of images taken a few days ago.

I'll be back later with a post harvest wet weigh in. My first job this morning after it warms up a bit out there (Currently 39.5 F), will be to remove all the fan leaves to help the buds get more sun and loose the heavy dew as fast as possible.

Stay tuned! :thanks:

Hey, Bro! Sorry you're being forced to chop a little early, but ya' gotta do what ya' gotta do and it sounds like the best decision based on the circumstances. She looks great and I'm sure she'll still smoke great, too! I'm one of those believers that it's not all about trichome color! :)

Thanks Mr. K!

Her Week 8 was Sunday, so technically, things are right on the dime in terms of the harvest window, but I had hoped to give it a few more days in the sun before the chop. Unfortunately, it was cloudy and cold all day yesterday, so I didn't get that option. I'm pretty sure that second rotten bud probably started down that road after the previous night followed by no real sun to dry things out.

I've already chopped a few of the more suspect buds and sprayed them down with milk/water, then distilled water, gave them a good shaking off and then into the closet with a fan blowing on them at full blast.

Its beautiful up here at the moment, so it should get some heat from the sun over the next few hours. I'll probably chop the rest around noon at the peak of the warming/drying.

Hey there GG7

Talk about ups and downs... The memorial looks great and I can just image you there each morning with a cup of jo, talking away to him.

The plants well all as I can say is you are doing what you can and they look great. I know you are worried about them and I hope you are having a great harvest!
Can't wait to see the photos and your wet weight predictions.

Hang in there buddy!

:peace: and dense nugs!

Thanks MS! Your positive and supportive comments are most appreciated as always! :thanks::peace:

As far as the harvest goes and the few issues. Most of what happened to GDP #3 was the direct result of my lack of focus on the plants over the last few weeks. Obviously, I had far more pressing issues to deal with and like everything else in my life, the Cannabis crop was placed on hold during that difficult time.

I am sure that if I had been on the top of my game as I normally would be, I would have caught the bud mold much earlier and would have probably been able to save what I ended up having to toss. All tolled, I lost about 12 ounces of wet bud to the mold or whatever the hell that crap was, which was about a 5th of the total GDP #3 harvest I would guess.

I will be posting the chop and weigh in report next.

GDP #3 Chop and Weigh In
Impressive! But could have been even bigger!

When all was said and done, I ended up losing about 12 ounces of wet trimmed bud to the bud rot that resulted from the cold damp nights these past two weeks. This kind of stuff is the downside to growing outdoors. At least if you like to finish the plants during the fall. The weather can really make things difficult sometimes.

Anyway... Here are the final photos of the harvest

I decided to go ahead and trim the raw buds up as I clipped each branch from the plant. I left all the buds on their main brances and just trimmed off all the fan leaves and the majority of the smaller bud leaves as well.

The stuff was so sticky that I had to clean my two pairs of clippers and my hands no less than 5 times with alcohol before I got through it all. There was A LOT of bud here! A few of the colas were well over 3 inches in diameter trimmed! :thumb:

p1012167.JPG

p1012167b1.jpg

Even after all the trimming, the large colas lost to rot, and discarding the small lower branch budlets, I still ended up with 1 pound 8.40 ounces of choice GDP bud. Based on my previous harvests and the size and density of this particular plant's yield, I am going to predict 7-8 ounces of dried premium GDP bud.

P1012168.JPG

These were also the darkest purple color of any of the three original GDP clones. The bud branches are now hanging in my dring closet and I hope to have one last set of photos for you of the dried bud on Sunday, or early next week. :cheertwo:

Thanks for watching and have a great rest of the week! :thanks::peace:

:Namaste:

Just awesome, GG7!!! :bravo:

I guess just seeing a half-pound (dry) yielding plant is testament to outdoor growing! I bet your electric costs were low for that one, too! :)

Thanks Mr. K!

A very true statement! I forgot to mention in the last post that GDP #3 was the only one of the three original clones that spent its entire life outside. It went into flower naturally as well, so yes! This is what you end up with when you use the sun and not a hint of artificual lighting of any kind from start to finish

Glad you liked the update!! Just based on how sticky this stuff was, I have a feeling that this is going to be some of the most ass kicking GDP bud on the planet! ;)

We shall see in a month or two!

Thanks again my friend! :thanks::peace::Love:

Goose even with the loss of some bud to rot, you have another impressive harvest. :bravo:

Hey HMG!

Thank you! :Namaste:

I have to say that GDP has been a pleasure to grow and regardless of what size the plant is, it always produces and impressive yield for the space you are able to give it!

SO GLAD that I have four GDP clones nicely vegging in my bathroom grow room! :)
