Well here we are with an excellent prize that I was fortunate to win from our generous sponsors at Viparspectra in their photo competition. I firstly want to thank the people that voted for my entry , i really am grateful that the xs1500 had given me the opportunity to show what plants can be achieved from a small 150w unit and a little experience and support from the community here. I had not used any viparspectra products before this and was so impressed that I had to throw my hat in the ring for this amazing prize of the P4000. With the extra 250w and even more coverage available , I really kept everything crossed when I saw a few votes come in. The end result was a surprise with the entries that were submitted all being as worthy. When I saw i had won and that I would be receiving the prize soon , I was buzzing. I started mentally re arranging the grow room to use the new light as I posted my thank you comments too.lol
My plan to start a photoperiod grow using the light from seed to harvest went out the window with my healthy eating plan as soon as that well secured and totally uninteresting shipped treasure arrived at my door. 2 days later and I am slicing the tape off the box knowing full well that as soon as I see the light , my curiosity would ignite a haste to hang it and run it straight away. I was right !!!!.
The light was very simple to hang and soon I was up ad running on full power.
As mentioned above , i have 6 plants that had reached day 24 of flowering at the change over point. They had stopped stretching and were beginning to settle down to their week 3/4 bud building set up. An ideal time to add more power and spread them out a little more as they were looking very bunched up and a kind of a thicket. I do use defoliation and had done this prior to the change bit as usual, all the leaf matter had been replaced and we were back to bushy fun again. I have since stripped them out a little again to remove some of the smaller popcorn growth from very low down and inside the plant. I have been watching the buds growing this past 6 days since the switchover and can happily say that they are all getting very good penetration quite low down , even in the thicker parts of the plants and canopy. The extra side ways space I have to spread the forming colas out should help with keeping them in light and also keep the airflow as open as possible. I will be taking more out as I go to avoid too much light blocking but only the absolutely necessary leaves.
THE PLANTS
The strains are 5 Zamnesia seeds girls and one expert seeds critical cheese which is a leggy sativa hybrid made more obvious by her lanky appearance compared to the others.
2 x Girl scout cookie autos
3x Amnesia Haze autos which have had various l.s.t methods applied to compare and have a little fun along the way.
A few topped , a few fimmed and one bent over with an " @InTheShed 5th node pulled horizontal " method which avoids the slowing down for repairing that other methods need. As they are all autos and some of the last of the strains being run of from a perpetual auto run , I wanted to finish with some more hands on methods as I have been redundant with the ease and simplicity of the auto flowering genetics
MEDIUM
I am using a mix of living organic soil, coco and perlite with my own super soil made over the last 2 years from old grow medium and stems/dandelions/veg kitchen waste/eggshells/coco. I am also using Megacrop and in flowering , a few of the shogun range products sumo boost , pk warrior 9/18 and a finisher called Dragon force.
On this feed and with approx 4 L per feed each every other day , they have not shown any signs of burn or deficiency besides a little mg from the use of l.e.d lights and possibly the coco too but it is not bad enough to bother me at the moment and unless it gets worse , I dont want to add any calmag this late in flowering.
With approx 5 weeks left to go before harvest , I am confident that it will be enough time to really benefit from the extra boost that the P4000 has added . Let's see shall we....
I have added below , some pics of the past 6 days since adding the light. I know it is a lot of pics but I wanted to bring the diary up to date with where I am at today.
I hope you will join me on this quick start journey to harvest and welcome any comments , observations and general silliness in abundance. I will be using the viparspectra forums to get the best out of this unit that I can with the help of other vipars running them and hope that I can justify the brilliant opportunity to use this new beauty from the sponsors #ViparSpectra .
Invites (which is by no means by popularity and is purely by stoner bad memory) are going out as I jog my memory .lol
