Fun In The Sun 2016 - Tiger - Ape - Pitbull - Gorilla & More - Run Wild

I like that idea Gt...could help...I put a couple wraps around my greenhouse(coroplast) to keep panels from blowing out over winter...maybe a couple extra ropes over the dome as well...Good Luck tomorrow Major!...cheerz...h00k...

I was reading about harvest yesterday and it said to check Trics after the buds dry. The first one that said check them dry. They said to fast dry it but dident say how. No worries Im not fast drying.

Whats the difference with checking Trics fresh or dry? Same clear, cloudy to amber? I wonder how much Trics change when it dries??

Suns almost up and Im scared to look. I had branches rip almost completely off yesterday. I zip tied them but wont pull unless they start wilting. Its quite incredible the damage a branch can take before it wilts. I will be inside the garden today trying to fix what I can. No wind , all water damage. I plan next pick in a week or so. Thanks Major!

I think he is out strapping shit down right now.....

Good luck Major... Let's hope they are wrong on the forecast...

Thanks FE! I did tie up a few more branches, but mainly just looked for what I would chop today before the weather hits.
Next year I am SO going to up my training, support, SCROG game for the grow.

Major, yes, good idea, but can the structure stand up to that much velocity without going airborne? You will prevail, i know you will. When is the forecast better Major? Cheers my friend!:Namaste:
Not much chance of the cover, I'm afraid. It might have been a survivor if the PVC cross at the top didn't keep breaking.
I like the pallet wrap idea but I'm going to ride it out as-is. I'll chop the most vulnerable AS and GG4 buds this morning and hope for the best with the rest of them.
It looks like our weather will suck through Tuesday. Rain each day, but the wind will be worst this afternoon. It turns out we had 3" of rain on Thursday and we are due for another 4" today. After that, not so bad, but bad enough.

I'm not familiar with "a dry trich' check". Interesting!
IDK if they change color, or what. I have looked at dry buds under a scope, but wasn't thinking about comparing them to when they were fresh. You might learn something, I guess, but it would only apply to growing the same strain again since they are different and there's nothing you can do to make them more or less cloudy/amber/??? once they are dry. When I look at them dried, they all look like crystals, but beyond that, dunno.

:thankyou: and best of luck to all you Left Coast outdoor growers with crops still in the ground. :high-five:

:Namaste:

Its this 420 mag sites thing on harvest that says to check Trics dry. First time ive read this.
The weather we got was nothing compared to what others get regularly! I couldent imagine fighting the weather like many do.
Man, Fresno Ca. must have the best weather for outdoors. Anything south of Modesto.
Big day today.
Namaste

The only good thing about this weather is, it is much warmer than typical for this time of year. Today is the average date for our first frost. Our low temp last night was 50 degrees.

Godd Luck, major!

I'm fighting with the wind also. The worst is supposed to hit any minute now. I fell on one of my girls while trying to tie a cover over it (which blew off anyway) and ripped off 1/3 of the main big branches.

Bad times. Well Once the wind stops blowing, the top is going back up. It will be a sealed greenhouse and heated. I wonder if we have enough light this late in the year for a large girl to mature. I have a 200 watt florescent, and 600 watt MH that I could put out there. Do you think I might put one or both of them out there?

It's got at least a month to go. I shouldn't have planted it... If it finishes though it will be spectacular.

Shes a big one! Ten feet!

A 600W MH couldn't hurt unless it gets too hot. But really, with the sun on your side, I don't think I'd bother. Sort of like peeing into a lake. You know you must be raising the water level, but not enough to notice.

Hey Major
I see you are bracing for today as well. If you have some heavy string like bailing twine or something like that crisscross over your greenhouse to either fence posts driven into the ground or at the very least to something heavy like 5 gallon buckets full of water. It helps trust me.
Hope we both are blessed and the big winds by-pass us both. Best of luck my friend

Thanks OG! Best of luck!

I've done what I can. I'm hopeful but resigned to the very real possibility tomorrow will be a full panic harvest of plants laying on the ground.
I did go down this morning and grabbed a few wet pounds of AS and GG4 that were most vulnerable. I also had to tie up more branches. LH#2 was blown over one direction yesterday and the opposite direction today. I now have it guy-wired in all four directions. Hopefully what's left can ride it out today. LH#1 is a mess - beyond help. I tied up several branches but it may have been a waste of time. Probably 1/3 of it is on the ground and it is way too early for me to chop it. Oh well. Live and learn. Next year!

My neighbor's high tunnel hoop house took the wind in stride, but I talked with him while I was in the garden this morning and his grow has PM pretty bad. I've been very luck in that respect: no mold, or PM. Even insect pests were not a big issue this year.

Things I learned the hard way this year:
Plan for bad weather before you ever start an outdoor grow. Don't try to cover them once they are 8'-12' tall.
Wind is even worse than rain.
I need to greatly improve my support system. Think industrial SCROG. I have a plan for this but need to test it out.
Grow smaller plants. 8' is plenty big. Any more than that is just PITA and not worth it (to me).
Do not transplant my plants as deep and do not LST the branches outward much. They tend to do that on their own over time and too much makes them vulnerable to breaking once they get loaded up late in the game.
Water away from the main stalk to keep it dry.
Growing more than you need is a great way to hedge your bets outdoors. If one plant eats it, or parts of all plants are damaged, you can be selective in your harvest(s) and still do OK.

Yes Major, I was pulling 10-12 feet plants in flowering after few heavy rainstorms, so I know how it feels. Friggin' mess! And yeah you should start with netting or chicken wire very early. Also using two cages help or a huge greenhouse with wind protection. Well I hope you're gonna get your haul anyway.

Thanks OG! Best of luck!

Morning Major, I hope your plants survived the wind and rain, We're all standing by for your report.... Hope all is well ! Ole Rooster1 running along now.... I'll be back.

Thanks Rooster!
Still very dark and very wet out there. I'm hopeful. Plenty of rain and wind, but the wind never got as bad as I had feared. We did get a couple of really good gusts, and that's all it takes. I'll know more in a few hours when I go down to water them.

I'm anxious to get a look and they need a drink - I should have done it yesterday, but it is POURING rain. I'll probably wait a couple of hours to go get wet.

The morning started off with a bit of un-weather-related excitement. We had a large black bear stroll through the yard, close to the house. That always wakes me up.
