Fun In The Sun 2016 - Tiger - Ape - Pitbull - Gorilla & More - Run Wild

I'm already there and you're fortunate I'm not so into Stellas, so you can still grab one to get through cotton mouth

Double?

This grow wasn't typical (if there is such a thing for these). I flipped them early. From the day the seeds were above ground in solo cups until I flipped them was only 26 days. At that time they were still in 1 gal pots and iirc, about 5-6" tall, like this:

Then all hell broke loose and they grew like nothing I've seen. Even with severe supercropping during bloom :( one of the two ended up like this:

For scale, the 55 gal drum in the background was made into a smoker and has 4" wheels under it. The Tiger is easily 24" taller than the barrel and each branch wraps around the circumference of the pot adding at least another 12-18". I have no idea what the usual stretch would be if they are allowed to veg more completely. I think PeeJay's advice is spot on. I had 8 main tops on each plant. With this growth habit, and being outdoors, I'm going to try to make a bush with as many tops as possible.

Cool. Yeah just top it relentlessly and keep it a couple of feet tall until the 3rd week of July or so. You'll end up with tough woody stems down low. Here's my "lawn mower" topped Bangi Haze. It easily trippled in height when it went on a flower light cycle. Your GT was more like 8x.

There are 20+ solid tops on that plant. Just thin out the losers during stretch and you'll end up with a crazy 8' Medusa.

Glad to see most of the usual suspects subbed on your journal Major ;)
Welcome back Growlow! This modest outdoor grow is just getting underway. I look forward to following what you've got going on.

It's OK Major,...GL passed thru security...he's fine, he has clearance.:blunt:

Oh just so ya know,...i'l be testing the perimeter alarms (trip wires, I.R's,cams) this weekend.:surf:
Have an awesome weekend Major...:thumb:

A Pig Tale (con El Pato)
A Micro Grow

While we're waiting for the big girls to get interesting, I thought I'd throw these into the mix just for fun.
Currently in week 3 from seed and were flipped 9 days ago to 12/12. No sex yet but there's still a little room. I want to see what I can do in just a few cups of soil. My hope is to cull one plant from each.

Update (Week 13 of Veg)

A quick update but not much to talk about.

I think my home-brew soil mix is firing on about half its cylinders. I was hoping for better (of course) but it could be worse. I could have them all looking like Pitbull. What is weird, about half the plants seem to like it just fine. A couple not so much, and a couple really don't care for it at all. Live and learn. If I can improve a little each time, I'll be satisfied. My current problem is trying to figure out what needs to be modified.

All plants have been topped heavily so they look a little weird at the terminations of each branch. GT+ was also supercropped to try and get a more even canopy. I'll be topping again...and again. Growth in height hasn't been huge, but with all the topping, I'm not surprised. I did a heavy defol on them a week ago and they cleaned up really nice. Now it is hard to tell I did anything so they are adding leaves like crazy.

We finally broke into spring with a vengeance. 85 degrees today and near 90 tomorrow. Here are some photos from yesterday morning.

I'm am SO ready to get these girls in the ground. I'm tired of moving pots around. I may jump the timeline a little and put them out in a week, or so. I'm going to grab a photo later showing two AS clones I put in the big pots just as a test. I'm going to cull both, but wanted to see if they bloomed, thrived, died, or whatever. I ended up with a little of everything. :cheesygrinsmiley:

I'm afraid that's all I've got for now.

:thanks: and :Namaste:

Glowing in the sun. I don't see anything but happy. Which ones do you think aren't "hooking up?" All of 'em are going to go nutz with the longer days and warm temperatures.

I'd love it if you'd cut the ZD and GT down by half in hedge clipper fashion... Lem does that with great results in one of his planters every year. He even uses an electric hedge trimmer.

I want to come hang out at your house. The plants all look great. :goodjob:

Thanks guys!

Gulp! I want to do that PeeJay...and I might. Let's see what the next update brings. :cheesygrinsmiley:
I'm going to try and grab a few pictures that show what I'm seeing - and of the two plants I put in the big cages. It's a mystery to me.

Ok. You see 'em every day and are way more invested in them than casual journal readers.

There is more than one soil involved, too?

Which plants are in this one?

Soil mix is: 2-1-1-1 sawdust-pumice-sandy loam-compost
Above base soil mix was amended (in no particular order) with: EWC, bone meal, guano, blood meal, feather meal, rock phosphate, Epsom salts, dolomite lime, Azomite rock dust, kelp meal, neem meal, myco, alfalfa meal, and humic and fulvic acids. It was mixed and has been cooking since mid-January.
