Fun In The Sun 2016 - Tiger - Ape - Pitbull - Gorilla & More - Run Wild

Gaaaack how did I miss this. I am here to stay though just very late!

:welcome:

Glad you are here Shiggity. I'm sure I'll benefit from you looking over my shoulder.
I'm looking forward to seeing you grow with your new light and mover. Great stuff!

Page 5 is very late? WTF most of the time I am lucky to wander in around page 25. I know I am a tad bit slow, heck even Mom told me that as a child but really, page 5 is the standard for late, when I sub a journal before page 10 I feel like I got in on the ground floor, now I have to relook at my definition of early and late.

Say Major I am curious as to how much stretch did you get off your Tigers on the last grow. I know Sativa's can easily double in size.

Double? :rofl:

This grow wasn't typical (if there is such a thing for these). I flipped them early. From the day the seeds were above ground in solo cups until I flipped them was only 26 days. At that time they were still in 1 gal pots and iirc, about 5-6" tall, like this:

Then all hell broke loose and they grew like nothing I've seen. Even with severe supercropping during bloom :( one of the two ended up like this:

GT17.jpg

For scale, the 55 gal drum in the background was made into a smoker and has 4" wheels under it. The Tiger is easily 24" taller than the barrel and each branch wraps around the circumference of the pot adding at least another 12-18". I have no idea what the usual stretch would be if they are allowed to veg more completely. I think PeeJay's advice is spot on. I had 8 main tops on each plant. With this growth habit, and being outdoors, I'm going to try to make a bush with as many tops as possible.

Then I may be screwed, my MG I plan on flowering is already 18" tall from where she comes out of the clay balls in the DWC basket. Something tells me if I am going to flip her I better get flipping pretty quickly , though I wonder if I tossed it under a SCROG if that would help. Man I am thinking I need to build a couple more SCROG because I am planting 2 in the back yard and they are already 3 feet tall and not even in the ground yet just chilling on the back patio. Maybe I should follow suite and shot for more tops, right now I only have 4 main tops. I was originally thinking of growing them like an espalier since I already have posts set and would only need to run a few wires.

Man living in town really sucks.

everyone, please announce at least on my threads ;) you are starting new stuff :)

...I need a pair of binoculars where Im standing..
My bad, Zig.
It was 4-20, I was busy as heck, and was in a bit of a funk having killed my favorite plant. Next time... :thumb:

I just found it too.

Mind if I pull up a lounger by the pool?:surf:
Please do! Have a tall, cool beverage and here's a water noodle (no running!). :cheesygrinsmiley:

Ok, I'm in Major... just needed some time to get around it :smokin2::laughtwo:

I just spent all morning topping the plants and raising their hemline. I pinched about 100 tops - 40 on the Ace of Spades alone. Since I had a bunch of leaves from the low/inside part of each plant, I decided to grab a few brix readings. I mixed up the trim from LH and GG4 so no readings for them. Pitbull is no longer an experiment. She's history. Here are the rest of my readings:
GASS = 13
ZD+ = 13
GT+ = 15
AoS = 16
The older, larger plants did pull slightly better numbers, but since it is so early, none of it means much. My challenge is to keep decent number once in bloom. I can never keep the leaves looking good and the mites don't help.
:Namaste:

It's weird that with such numbers you still get overrun by the mites. Do they do any damage?

Yes they do.

I had mites last summer on the Pitbull and it was 18+ brix at the time. Of course my numbers mean nothing except when compared to my other readings. I was surprised at the 15 and 16 since these were interior leaves - most near the bottom. They were dark green and healthy, but still.

All I do is take a fan leaf (or two) with petiole(s), pulverize with a mortar and pestle, take the pulp and squeeze it with a clamp to get a few drops.

I can't say I've seen any correlation in brix and pest immunity. :(

I guess it still depends on something else, however I haven't had any serious problems with pests for a long time. But they're still out there for sure, it's just I cannot see them doing any damage as soon as the plants hit good Brix. The only pest I've never seen go away though is bud worm, these do not care about anything.
