From Seed to Smoke - RQS Critical & OG Kush - LED - DWC Scrog

re: From Seed to Smoke - RQS Critical & OG Kush - LED - DWC Scrog

Hi everyone, happy Shatterday.;)

I went this morning to change the reservoirs instead of last night, so here's the update.

Today is day 22 of flower for the Critical closet, and she is pretty much done stretching I think. There are lots of bud sites, and they are starting to show trichomes on the leaves, the plants are doing very well.

Critical Closet Stats.
Day 22 of flower
PPM= 620
PH= 6.0
Air Temp= 83F
Water Temp= 76F
RH= 60%

The OG Kush and the 2 Critical clones in the larger closet are doing very well. the OG Kush has reached the screen with one of her branches, and the two Critical clones have lots of new roots in the reservoir and lots of new growth up top. I'm gonna wait another week and then flip the lights on this closet to get my flowering rotation set.

OG Kush & Critical Closet Stats.

PPM=500
PH= 6.0
Air Temp= 81F
Water temp= 76F
RH= 44%

And finally my veg area, not much of a change here other than I topped the largest plant, which is the mystery strain. If she gets much taller I'm gonna start to LST her.

That's it for another update, I hope you all have a great week. Questions and comments are always welcome, and as always, stay medicated my friends.;)

Hi trapr.

I'm glad I helped to make up your mind to start a grow, I find the whole process very rewarding, and hope you do too.
Cheers.;)

re: From Seed to Smoke - RQS Critical & OG Kush - LED - DWC Scrog

I have a question. I'm getting ready to start my first grow, plan on starting the seeds this weekend. I plan on using the papertowl in a zip lock bag method to sprout the seeds. Then move the sprouts into 1" rockwool cubes in a seedling dome where i will keep them till i see roots growing out of the rockwool. After that moving them into my res into net pots with clay pebbles, I plan on using my drip pump to water them twice a day for 15 minutes at a time, pump will be on a timer, till i see roots coming out of the net pots, water will have some nut's in it I will be using technafloria and following their recipe for success, Once the roots reach the length that they can reach water on their own I will turn off the drip system and remove it from the res and go standard DWC. Does this make sense and am I on the right path?

Everything sounds pretty good here. Sorry Stealth for jacking the thread haha. Could i make a suggestion?

Do you have any sort of mycorrhizae supplement for your grow? or aquashield? if you do great, if not, try it out. Great White is a great product for Mycorrhizae also General Hydroponics Subculture-M is good too. Aquashield is a liquid compost solution and i would suggest anyone growing in DWC, RDWC, Ebb and Flow and soil to use it for its added benefit (including you Stealth!! theres a place in Montreal that has some in stock on their website. i cant send link cause its not sponsor.. PM me if youre interested! this shit is super awesome i swear!) in colonizing the root zone and protecting it against the bad bacteria AS WELL as helping it survive ridiculously high water temps!! Very important in DWC

Once you transplant the seedlings into your reservoir (i'm assuming a DWC bucket of some sort?) i would suggest not watering 2 times a day via the drip pump. I would also advise against using any nutrients until you start to see a second set of leaves forming, as seedlings have enough nutrients stored within the embryo to sufficiently make it to this stage. Water by hand via a plastic squeeze bottle or a syringe and make sure to keep the rockwool moist, but not too damp. Be very careful when using a humidity dome over your seedlings as you have a very high chance of the seedlings Dampening off. Aquashield is very very effective in this stage against Root rot and dampening off of seedlings. Keep hand watering the seedlings until you see an established root system from the bottom of the rockwool. From then you can set the automatic waterings with a light nutrient solution. Remember, less is better than more at this stage of the plants life. More nutes and you will burn and stress the plants. The plants will usually tell you what they need, just pay attention to them, and do your research!!

your plan sounds great tho! I tried the same sorta thing you did on my first grow, and knowing what i know now, i would do the things i suggested to you from the get go. I didn't and i lost a bunch of nice White Widow plants that i spend good coin on those seeds! Money is not something we can all just dispose of easily so i would hate to see you get your plan up and running and have it come crashing down due to something that could have been easily avoidable!

make sure you start a journal of your grow, and send invites to everyone! the more people you have in your corner helping you, the more prepared you will be for success!

again sorry Stealth for thread jacking!! i'll sit in time out if need be...

Hi Greenthumb, and 2BLgl.
No worries at all Greenthumb, very good info, thank you. I have looked into Great White and mycorrhizae suppliments at the local hydro store but just never bought any, Maybe its time. I should change up things a little and see If I can improve my yields.

I used to plant my seeds the exact way your talking about 2BLgl, but I lost all 3 AK auto seeds I got as freebies to overwatering in the rockwool, so I decided to change it up and it seems to be working well. I went to Home Depot's garden dept. an picked up some Pro-Mix coco designed for planting seeds and seedlings or clones. It has a very mild nutrient content that is time released, it seems to be working very well.

What I did is put a good layer of clay pebbles in the bottom of the net cup, then filled up the rest of the netcup with the pro mix coco. Then I filled solo cups(with a couple holes in the bottom for drainage) half full with the coco, put the netcups into the solo cup on top of the coco so the netcups sits level with the rim of the cup and filled in the sides with the coco. I then just planted the seeds directly into the coco. I got lucky and ended up with 100% germination.
All the red solo cups that are in the pics above have netcups in them also, so that when its time to put the plants into the reservoir I can gently remove the netcups from the solo cups and put them directly into my closets with minimal stress to the plants.

Hope all that made sense. Going to my grow this evening for day 28 of flower reservoir changes. I'll post an update with lots of pics later tonight. Cheers.

:thumb: they're looking great, the leaf posture is amazing!

Thanks CS, I know right!! The leaves are almost verticle, they are soakin up the fake sun.;)

Awesome help greenthumb! I also +reps for this great information.

Im ready for stealths weekend update!!!!

I agree, very good advise Greenthumb, reps from me too.;) Update later tonight Hunter.;)

re: From Seed to Smoke - RQS Critical & OG Kush - LED - DWC Scrog

Thanks you guys.

I was growing without using any sort of beneficials, and i lots a lot of money in seeds my first go. While my young plants were starting to die off, i learned of Aquashield. When i first read about it on grow weed easy dot com website, it almost sounded like a Botanicare sales rep was writing the article, not an experienced grower, so i was skeptical at first, but i caved and bought it.

The plants that were able to be saved still were resurrected by the Aquashield. LIke not only were they resurrected, but all the dead, dying and decaying root matter was obliterated and new, WHITE roots blasted out of them. From then on i never ran into a problem other than me letting my DWC buckets run dry (my own negligence!!)

Foreign objects in the res? No Worries!

Dont fully drain and rinse your water reservoir? No Worries!

This one is my favourite...

High water temps causing Pythium outbreaks? NO WORRIES!

I have had my water temps hit almost 30 degrees (celcius.. i'm a Canadian!) Recommended water temps are between 16-22 degrees... Not 30! I've had the temps get close to 30 and the plants didn't show any signs of stress. They drank up more water, as well as the rate of evaporation was higher and the Dissolved oxygen levels were very low, even with my large airstones in the buckets but my plants haven't given a rats ass about water temps!

I'm sure i want to keep the temps at an optimal range for better production overall, which i will do once i get my chiller, but for now, I rely on aquashield to maintain a strong and health root zone. Using aquashield with other beneficial bacteria multiplies their effectiveness as the Aquashield colonizes the root zone and allows better absorption of endo and ecto-mycorrhizal fungi, which in turn grows a stronger, larger root mass that intakes more nutrients and grows more vigorously.

I just had my four 1L jugs arrive today at the post office. Got my Canada post delivery notice in my mailbox this morning! I been going without it for like 3 weeks almost and my widow in veg has been hurting lately. Once i get the Aquashield back in the regiment, things will be on the Up and Up!!

Thanks for the kind words over on my Journal Stealth! The Sponsorship is very exciting! And i might possibly have another Sponsored Journal in the works!

Looking forward to that update buddy! :thumb:
