Fresh Harvest Infused Cannabis Oil

Hmmmmm.. maybe I should scrape up some pennies and buy a temperature gun. This decarb stuff is tricky. My oven says It was at 230 for two hours. The oil was in a Pyrex dish. Maybe the oven doesn't maintain temperatures properly. I have a hot plate I use for my vac purge setup, that might work. I have a couple crockpots too. I'm gonna make this work eventually. Thank you for all this help .
It took an hour or so for my oil too reach 230. I turned the oven up to 330 and kept checking the temps with a laser thermometer. I turned the oven down to 240 and that kept my oil at 230 in my oven. It was all done with the digital thermometer. :circle-of-love::peace:

OldMedUser, would you think it possible for the crockpot to be used to finish his decarb?

Only if he can raise the voltage level like I do using the Variac to supply more than 100% line voltage. I go up to 120% to get it to 260F. The oil bath will work or putting the oil in the oven until the oil gets hot enough to decarb. Can leave it for quite a while to make sure it gets done. A crock pot on high won't even boil water I don't think.

I'm gonna get the laser thermometer thing. Is the oil ok to just relax in the fridge for a couple days before I decarb and put in caps?

Sure. It'll just get better dispersed by the lecithin.

My impressions are it seems a good bit stronger then my regular oil. Probably 2-3x stronger. The real test will be with the next batch of brownies. Maybe later. :) :circle-of-love::peace:

That's my impression too Dave. I really think it might rival CCO for effectiveness. It's not the same concentration of cannabinoids, but I believe it's as powerful, if not more so, medicinally.

Sue,
Have you ever heard a reason for storing the lecithin and oil mix in the fridge?
Most chemical reactions do better at higher temperatures.
If the cannabis and and lecithin are not compromised by room temperature storage, it seems room temperature or warmer would be better.

The cold helps the lecithin disperse the particulate matter better Rad, but I don't know the particular science behind it. BadKat used to recommend a series of freeze/thaw cycles to get things broken down into finer and finer particulates, but Cajun told me outright that the freeze isn't necessary, just the cold of a 24-hour rest in the fridge.

I have great faith in his knowing what he was talking about. It doesn't sit well with me that I don't have a better explaination. KR might understand this part of the process better. I'll ask him, do a little research, and get back to you. :battingeyelashes:

Chemical reactions that require molecules to break apart happen faster at higher temps, but for the pieces to form into new molecules generally requires a release of energy to slow them down.

I still don't know exactly what happens with lecithin and cco. We are trying encapsulate the cco inside balls of lecithin (i.e. liposomes). I think what happens in the refrigerator is just the first step bonding lecithin and cco, because liposomes form when glycophospholipids in lecithin are mixed with water solution (i.e. our bodies). Key here is slowing down the molecules so they can bond, which takes time not heat.

Alright... So here's my temp rig

am I in the neighborhood? I've been at temp for 80 mins so far. Also... Shirts are required for this activity. Trust me.

Many thanks for the quick response! Ill throw some more coal on the fire and report back later .

You're definitely getting decarb. Well done. You're almost there Bloodguy. :high-five:

It seems with my cheap temp gun 240 is the sweet spot. Nice steady lil soda style bubbles. Do I just keep going until they stop completely?

Or until they're mostly done. It'll be much more potent when you're finished this time. Try a small amount. I limit myself to a single ml at a time. Be cautious, OK?

Smart move. Even my 1:1 strains have quite a kick at 00 size. :)

KR, how would you say this oil compares to CCO? I find it more potent at 1:1 - 1:2 THC:CBD than CCO I made with high THC plants processed into 5:1 biobombs. I've finally, after more than a month, found it possible to increase my oral doses. I'm now dosing every 3-4 hours, trying to see what my limit is. So far I'm able to cope and function as normally as my normal is. :laughtwo:

I know that if I go to my small town drugstore and ask for empty capsules, I'm going to get very weird looks from the ladies there.
I haven't read of this being an issue for you guys out there in the real world. What are you claiming to be using capsules for, or does the question just never come up? I think Sue suggested saying 'essential oils' - but I can't think of what that would actually be, in reality, - and I'm sure the ladies can't either.
I haven't yet thought of an excuse that rings true. Not that I really care - but if they ask, I'd still like to have an answer. One that isn't illegal.

I order from amazing river com. Or you could tell them you have carrier pigeons and you put messages in them:thumb:
